4:01As we're recording this, there's a temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

4:08It's supposed to apply to allies as well.

4:13Iran is already breaking it.

4:14We have no idea what's going to happen by the time this episode airs.

4:19Yeah, the information we do know is that Trump sent the truth social that said

4:24a civilization will die tonight.

4:28And a lot of people flipped out.

4:31And you and I thought, I feel like this is part of upping the ante

4:36so that he gets his negotiation on a different footing, which is usually what he's

4:41doing in these situations. I understand the part where you go, the President of the

4:45United States is tweeting this crazy stuff and it includes possible war crimes and that's

4:51bad and that's not how we do things and I'm scared that he might do

4:54it. Because cultivating a madman theory means to some extent people worry that you might

4:59do the thing, right? Right, right.

5:01Well, that's what makes it effective, yes.

5:04So that part I understand.

5:06The part I don't understand is when he doesn't and achieves some sort of shift

5:11in negotiations and a ceasefire, the same people saying Trump chickened out by not doing

5:20the war crimes and the genociding that they were worried about in the morning.

5:24That part I do not understand.

5:26stand right if you are horrified by his you know wiping out a civilization bluster

5:31but then disappointed by the ceasefire make it make sense like which of these are

5:37you i am confused what we do know is that the deal was supposed to

5:41be a ceasefire which as you note iran has violated continually since in the 18

5:47hours since this went into effect or what have you um in all directions to

5:53the uae others and so presumably they're not going to be uh putting up with

6:00that uh we'll see what trump says the straight reform use is supposed to be

6:04open but it's not and uh iran is blaming that on israel hitting hezbollah in

6:09lebanon to which trump said they weren't part of the ceasefire right and there there

6:14does seem to be a lot of assumptions on the part of the media about

6:18what the ceasefire deal entails alleging that trump accepted on its face every one of

6:25iran's things on a list wish list and i just don't buy that part of

6:29it yeah i i don't understand who does and again i think it's so strange

6:34that you and i are in the position of like defending donald trump as a

6:40person it makes very little sense to me that you and i are understanding what

6:44he's doing but his like alleged intense supporters you know the the tuckers of the

6:50world and uh those kind of people are pretending that this is all completely brand

6:55new to him like tucker being offended on behalf of muslims that donald trump said

7:02you know praise be to allah in a sarcastic tone on easter like welcome welcome

7:06dude he's been president you know we're into his sixth year of his presidency four

7:13years in between where he was still in the national conversation daily um if any

7:18of this is surprising to you i don't understand and i don't know i also

7:23think that if this i i had no illusion that the ceasefire will hold i

7:28mean you know maybe it will maybe we go to this runs tomorrow maybe iran

7:33and trump figure out a way to really have the ceasefire hold i kind of

7:38don't think so because again in my reading of donald trump is he's not going

7:42to accept the strait of her moves being blocked and as we're recording this fox

7:46news is reporting that they have blocked two ships from the strait kuwait was reporting

7:51they're under attack cluster bombs landed in israel yesterday so all of this says to

7:56me that this ceasefire is not going to hold but if it were to hold

8:01i'd be happy about that i would feel good about that i would i don't

8:06want a long war i don't want war to go on and i think we've

8:09achieved a lot of our objectives so let me read you two tweets that kind

8:13of summarize what i'm thinking about this armin rosen tweets if this ceasefire winds up

8:18happening the bold iranian gambit to trade much of their senior leadership most of their

8:22navy at least half their missile launchers the lives of thousands of security personnel various

8:27bridges and rail lines steel and petrochemical plants their deterrence their nuclear infrastructure their air

8:32defenses and the ability to use dubai as a sanctions evasions hub for the possibility

8:36of charging tolls for merchant shipping on the strait of her moves will have been

8:40a titanic failure i don't even think they're going to get the tolls on the

8:44strait of her moves but yeah you know let's say let's say that's where we

8:48wind up how is that not a win for us i and it's it's also

8:52don't get it it's also two weeks of ceasefire and negotiation for a maybe right

8:56right now i don't like the way trump is talking about like yeah we're just

9:00going to do business with them and we'll split the tolls and it's like okay

9:03please don't believe any of that i just feel like it's all right it's all

9:06just words that he's saying to get what he wants but yeah i don't believe

9:10it i'm i'm of two minds about this i do think there's concern that once

9:14you have stopped that the the political cost at home of continuing goes up right

9:21so if you need to resume as i think you do after iran has has

9:25violated that becomes a harder political question for donald trump now we can talk more

9:31broadly about um our relatively low tolerance for these things and and why that matters

9:36on the world scene uh i think you know it's well earned after 20 years

9:40of war weariness understandable the afghanistan withdrawal being horrific um as a sort of exclamation

9:47point on that period of time i think the remedy for that is to decisively

9:51win a war and uh this seems like one that is tactically going well i

9:57just don't know what the strategy is from here nor nor do a lot of

10:02people right and that's part of what trump does so i i am a little

10:06concerned that restarting will be difficult that the market responding so well to the news

10:12that her moves will be open makes trump go great right except that it's not

10:17open right right so we'll see how he reacts to that but i think you're

10:21right that a lot of people with when it's trump they just forget they're like

10:28oh we're at status quo ante and i'm like i don't think we're at status

10:31quo ante um as eli lake puts it in five weeks of war the regime

10:36has lost its navy most of its missile launchers and a good chunk of its

10:39defense industrial base along with the top tier of its political and military leadership add

10:44to this the damage already done to its nuclear program in last june's 12 -day

10:47war there are more than 900 pounds of uranium buried under the rubble of what

10:51used to be underground enrichment facilities a year Iran was on the brink of obtaining

10:55a nuclear weapon and the ballistic missiles to deliver it to as far as Europe.

10:59Today, the regime's military has been reduced to a shell of itself.

11:02That doesn't mean a clear win, maybe, in many people's minds in America, which is

11:07something Trump needs to deal with in a messaging sense.

11:09But that's a big deal.

11:12And also, Khomeini's dead, by the way.

11:15Right. And it makes it much harder for them to reach outside of Iran to

11:23terrorize people. Absolutely. That's such a big thing.

11:26The fact that they have lost so much influence is humongous.

11:30And I was going to read a very similar comment from David Hirsihani, who also

11:34sums up all the things that they've lost.

11:36And I just again, you can hate Donald Trump.

11:39You can hate this war.

11:41You can hate war in general.

11:42You can hate all of it.

11:43But to say that America didn't get anything out of these last few weeks is

11:48crazy. It's absolutely crazy. And we got to, like, see what our capabilities are on

11:54the world stage. It's it's been breathtaking to watch.

11:57And again, you could oppose all of this and still say, wow, we won this.

12:02I don't understand how you look at it in another sense.

12:05Well, you've also seen the Gulf states rally with both America and notably Israel.

12:13Yep. Like, that's a big deal.

12:15They have shifted those alliances against themselves.

12:18Iran has by their behavior during this.

12:21Yeah. And then China and Russia have sort of barely lifted a finger.

12:24Now, there is a question during this ceasefire whether Russia and China start shipping stuff

12:30in to make it easier for them to learn and adapt and do new things.

12:34But thus far, by the way, they had a lot of time to prepare for

12:40this war. There was like decades where they were preparing for this war.

12:43Even the months in advance where Trump was like, I'm going to attack you.

12:47I'm going to attack you.

12:49I don't see it only because Russia needs its own supplies for their ongoing war

12:54in Ukraine. China seems like, why did we back these losers?

12:58They really don't seem like, oh, we're on this side.

13:01They're very, very quiet. They're not blustery at all.

13:05And that that's a tell.

13:07I mean, I don't know, again, how to look at it and anything.

13:10But yeah, we will see where it goes.

13:12It could all change within 18 hours.

13:16But this is what we know thus far.

13:19And I'm with you in that people discount what has already happened.

13:26And also, I think the cost of Trump being unconventional and not clearly communicating this

13:32is what I want to achieve means that.

13:34And because he likes to declare that anything is the thing he wanted to achieve

13:38means that voters are going to be like, but what's the thing that we achieve?

13:42Right. People who don't follow this all the time are going to need to be

13:46messaged and clearly told that.

13:48And he has missed opportunities to do that, even though he does talk about it.

13:52He doesn't talk about it in the sort of traditional presidential way.

13:56I agree. I think either of the tweets that you and I read sum up

14:00a lot of the success that we've had.

14:02And Donald Trump can say that to the American people and mean it because it's

14:06true. Another tweet I enjoyed from Clay Travis.

14:10He says, yesterday, many experts, that's in quotes, experts, told you we were headed for

14:15nuclear war and spent the entire day losing their minds.

14:17Today, the Dow opens up up 300 points.

14:21S &P rises nearly 3 percent.

14:23And oil has dropped to $20, dropped $20 a barrel.

14:26As always, it pays to be rational.

14:28Congrats to those who didn't lose their minds.

14:30And this goes back to what we talk about a lot, which is we would

14:34be the same people we are if this was Joe Biden.

14:37And if you're not the same person you are, if you don't have the same

14:41beliefs, if you're Bill Kristol, that's a problem.

14:45I mean, the thing where you're afraid of genocide and the destruction of a civilization

14:51at 9 a .m. and by 7 p .m., you're like, what a wuss.

14:56Yeah, taco. That's a no for me.

14:59That's a no for me.

15:00That's that that gear shift I can't do.

15:03Yeah, it's crazy. Also, Adam Francisco points out that gas prices collapsed and CNN removed

19:05gripped New York. I mean, it was years and years of bodies piling up near

19:11Gilgal Beach on Long Island.

19:13It was, I'm not a super murdery person, but it was a huge, huge story

19:19for a long time. Sorry, I don't mean to make, like, it's just a funny

19:22phrase. No, no, it is correct.

19:24A lot of women are into the murdering, and I do not consider myself one

19:28of those. I mean, I enjoyed the occasional Law and Order episode, but...

19:31Well, there are a lot of women who are into the murdering, literally, and then

19:34there are a lot who are into the storytelling about the murdering, yes.

19:38I meant the latter, yes.

19:40So here's the story of what happened with the Gilgal murders, because I'm so fascinated

19:45by this. So a woman goes missing, and when you read the story of this

19:49woman going missing, she's like, she was, I believe, a sex worker, and she was

19:53knocking on doors. She had a driver waiting for her.

19:56She was, like, hysterical. She appeared like somebody was chasing her.

20:00Turns out that that woman might not even be involved in any of this.

20:05Like, she was ultimately found.

20:07Yeah, her body was ultimately found, but it appears that she died accidentally and is

20:11not related to this case.

20:13But as they start looking for this woman, they just find body after body after

20:18body after body. And so far, he, the man who was arrested for Rex Horman,

20:25he was maintaining his innocence for a long, long time.

20:28And then today, Wednesday, he is due to plead guilty in court, which is a

20:32big shift because he's been saying the whole time he had nothing to do with

20:36it. He was previously charged with seven murders and not the woman, again, not the

20:43woman that went missing. He's now going to admit to an eighth murder that was

20:48one of the bodies found but wasn't tied to him originally.

20:51And now at least three more corpses are not tied to him.

20:56An Asian man, a woman, and her child were found during these searches, and it

21:00appears that they are not part of his murder spree, which leads to the question

21:05of what in the hell is going on in the sleepy Long Island, like the

21:10cutest little area, Gilgal Beach.

21:12You would never think, oh, oh, let's just go find bodies in the water.

21:16So yeah. And the case of how they found this guy was very interesting.

21:22He was an architect, and they somehow tied him to the first murder and ended

21:29up finding, finding him eating a pizza on the street of Manhattan.

21:33He dumps the pizza in a garbage can.

21:36They test the crust. They tie him to the rest of this.

21:39So it's, it's really interesting.

21:41And it's, it's bizarre. And it will make every murder story look, you know, bland

21:48and competitive. Especially because, again, there are at least three more unsolved murders that have

21:53not so far been tied to him.

21:57It's it's been a long time coming for New York to get to the end

22:01of the story. And him pleading guilty today will be at least part part of

22:06the way towards that. Now, Alvin Bragg is not dealing with the plea deal, right?

22:10Because that'll be like two and a half weeks.

22:13No, no, I don't. Let's avoid that.

22:15No, I am also not super murdery.

22:19I occasionally do like true crime, but I find that it's like generally too dark

22:25for me. And I never am a person who follows cases while they happen, which

22:30is a funny thing because I know that's the breaking news, right?

22:33I don't do that in crime cases.

22:35I only watch the documentary after the fact, maybe because there's distance or something.

22:41Right. But yes, it's serial killers are, for whatever reason, endlessly fascinating.

22:47I mean, many people are fascinated by them.

22:49There is good news, by the way, that active serial killers went from like a

22:54high of 700 in the 80s to like 100 now.

22:59We've really cut down on our national supply of serial killers.

23:02And that's good news for us.

23:05It's just it's much harder, right?

23:06It's like there's cameras everywhere.

23:08Everything is testable. I mean, again, this guy is just like eating his pizza on

23:12the streets of Manhattan, dumps it in a garbage can.

23:14And now he's charged with eight murders like it's I mean, that's good police work.

23:18Yes, yes. It's excellent for those of us not committing murders.

23:21And this is why I think the murdering has has gone down.

23:26It is this is like a 10 year running story in New York.

23:30So a lot of New Yorkers are super invested in this to see how it

23:34turns out. But there's been also in the articles about this, like he was not

23:39willing to settle this case at all.

23:41He was and people were like, did they have the wrong guy?

23:44Like it was really touch and go because he was so adamant that he didn't

23:48do it. And now he's saying that he did do it.

23:51So we'll see what happens.

23:55There's a three part documentary.

23:57I haven't seen it, but apparently people love it.

23:59The Gilgal Beach Killer, House of Secrets, his family's on the record.

24:02His wife has left him.

24:04I mean, apparently being a serial killer is not good for your marriage, guys.

24:09Yeah, I will probably watch that at some point.

24:11I do also just on on this dark subject.

24:14And if you want a good serial killer story that has a lot of distance,

24:18the book The Devil in the White City by Eric Larson.

24:24It is about a serial killer during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, who basically kept

24:32the equivalent of an Airbnb at the time.

24:35And young women came to stay in this house that he had built into sort

24:39of a house of horrors.

24:40And it is a great historical account, not only of that, who's it's an incredible

24:45story. And I won't spoil any of it for you because it has so many

24:48twists and turns. But also, I got the sense that this guy maybe just wanted

24:51to write a story about the Chicago World's Fair and needed a hook for it

24:55because there's so much historical information about that huge event in American history.

25:01And so it's a great read.

25:03He's a great writer. And I really enjoyed it.

25:05This isn't about murder, but we started watching Les Mis last night.

25:09As a family, I've never seen it before.

25:12Like, I had no idea what it was about.

25:14Like, the whole early prostitution scenes.

25:16I was like, kids, you know, blocking their faces.

25:18I did not know. But anyway, my middle son, who's really into history, was like,

25:23there's no way they pursued this, you know, bread thief for six years trying to

25:28find him after he was out on parole.

25:30He said they stopped looking for Jack the Ripper after three months.

25:33And they were just like, that's it.

25:34No more of this. And so he doesn't buy that they spent, you know, years

25:38and years looking for the bread thief right across the water in France.

25:43Do you like Les Mis?

25:45I do like Les Mis.

25:46I don't think I've ever seen it on stage, though I should.

25:49My husband knows a lot about Les Mis because his mom took him to see

25:53it one time. And it was after, like, a 12 -hour overnight shift, and he

25:57dozed a little bit during that play.

25:59I don't think I'm speaking out of school here.

26:00So what he did was he went and learned all the lyrics and then went

26:04back with his mom so that he could make up for that incident.

26:09Isn't that sweet? So he knows it very well.

26:11Very sweet. Very, very sweet.

26:12My kids are not into it, like, at all.

26:14They're like, what are we watching?

26:15Why are they all singing?

30:45We are back on normally where California doesn't have enough money to finish the high

30:51speed rail system. And they are a little bit short.

30:55It's only supposed to connect San Francisco to L .A.

30:58And they just like, you know, misplaced one hundred and twenty five billion dollars that

31:03they need to complete it.

31:04Let's roll this clip from some California officials talking to CBS News about this small,

31:12small gap. As we speak right now, are the funds there to complete L .A.

31:17to San Francisco? The entire amount of money we need?

31:20Not there today. But do we believe we can get those funds to get the

31:25project done? Absolutely. How much do you estimate it's going to cost to connect high

31:30speed rail? San Francisco to L .A.

31:31Today, we estimate with the right optimization, just over one hundred and twenty five billion

31:36dollars. I think one hundred and twenty six billion dollars is the current estimate for

31:39that. That's more funding than Amtrak has received in its history and still leaves a

31:44shortfall of roughly ninety billion dollars.

31:47That's a big gap to fill.

31:49It is a big gap to fill.

31:51But again, we have an understanding of how to get there and to fill that

31:55gap. Is it waiting for Donald Trump not to be president and getting the next

31:59Democrat to pay for it?

32:01Is that the way that they're going to fill that gap?

32:03I'll also just add that that one hundred and twenty five billion number is more

32:08than triple the original price tag that was approved by voters.

32:12So California is just doing super great with this.

32:14You know what it's also more than, Carol?

32:16I checked this yesterday. Do you know how much the Artemis program costs from 2012

32:21to getting to the dark side of the moon?

32:23It costs ninety three billion dollars to get to the dark side of the moon.

32:27Amazing. So getting from L .A.

32:29to San Francisco will cost more.

32:32That's amazing. Yeah, that is correct.

32:35And probably longer. Right. Is California just a fraud?

32:40I mean, it's like the fraud capital of America.

32:43I don't think that's even.

32:43Yeah. I don't think it's even debatable, but it's just a place where money goes

32:48to get completely misspent, right?

32:52Misspent slash stolen. This is the thing about, I mean, I've always been highly skeptical

32:57of government programs and they even outdo my cynicism.

33:00They really do, yeah. With your ability to steal from people.

33:03And COVID, of course, accelerated all of this.

33:06There's a great piece in the City Journal called Gavin Newsom's Empire Fraud, which they

33:12estimate California's lost at least $180 billion to fraud.

33:18Obviously accelerated, as I said, by these COVID programs.

33:22There was at least one expert at the time yelling at them like, hey, this

33:25is going to be the biggest fraud in history if you take off of unemployment

33:28income or insurance and then do COVID and make it bigger.

33:33And sure enough, that's what happened.

33:35In one case, a Romanian -led fraud ring orchestrated a $5 million unemployment insurance scheme,

33:42and they were just taking the money and wiring it straight to Romania.

33:46Like, we don't have a protection for that.

33:48And that's just a drop in the bucket.

33:51And $180 billion is something that people have trouble even picturing.

33:55And it's being taken from people's pockets every day in California, more than the program

34:03to get to the moon is being taken from the taxpayers of California, who then

34:08get what in services? Zero miles of high -speed rail.

34:12Homeless people on many of their streets.

34:15Infrastructure that does not work for them because it's being stolen.

34:19And Newsom is going to have to reckon with this record at some point, no

34:24matter how high he is in the polls.

34:26Yeah, I don't know. Will he have to reckon with this?

34:29I saw a tweet about this same study that you're talking about, the unemployment numbers,

34:34that at one point they had more people filing for unemployment than adults who live

34:39in California. So that seems like not great.

34:42As we are going to record this, Christopher Ruffo, who was involved in breaking that

34:50incredible story, he tweets out a news story about California spending $30 billion per year,

34:57paying 800 ,000 people to cook, clean shop, and watch television with family members and

35:02others. This in -home care program operates mostly on the honor system, which is how

35:07you know it's great, and loses $6 to $12 billion a year to fraud.

35:12I mean, it's almost like $6 to $12 billion doesn't even seem that much when

35:16you're talking about the numbers that California loses.

35:18Well, and here's what these liberal governments do.

35:20These liberal state governments make giant promises, and then they realize, oh, crap, we just

35:25have to keep raising taxes.

35:27And then they get defrauded because when they make these giant promises in these new

35:31programs, they don't put protections in them.

35:33I think that's partly because they like funneling money to as many people as they

35:36can possibly funnel money to.

35:38And here's the important part for normies.

35:40If you don't live in one of these states, if you live in one of

35:42these states, you're already being defrauded.

35:44If you don't live in one of these states, what's going to happen is they're

35:47going to wait for a Democratic president and Democratic Congress, and then they're going to

35:50say, all of you pay for all this fraud.

35:54All of you pay for every gap in our budget.

35:57All of you who are trying to put your kids in dance classes and scrumping

36:00at the edges to buy gas, you pay for it.

36:04That's what's coming. That's the plan for Illinois, for Massachusetts, for California.

36:10That's the plan. Yeah. When they inevitably can't afford to pay their own bills, we're

36:16all going to be responsible for it.

36:18And the fact is that that is another thing that Republicans have to be running

36:22on. They have to be running on the fact that, yes, these frauds in these

36:25blue states, they're your problem, too.

36:28And here's why. I just, MK, can we just take over messaging for the Republican

36:33Party? Like, would that be too much to ask?

36:35I just, where are they?

36:37What are they doing? It is perplexing to me that these stories are not being

36:42told in a fashion that, you know, shows the American people how responsible they're going

36:48to end up being for all of this and why it matters and who is

36:52actually responsible and who should be blamed and how to get us out of this

36:56mess. Yeah. A tiny bright spot, by the way.

36:59Republicans did throw in some, I believe, nine million the other day into this Virginia

37:03redistricting. So there's life. There's life in the system.

37:07I fear that it's too little too late because we are pretty close to the

37:12old election day right now.

37:13And there's early voting throughout that time.

37:16But at least there's some fight in them and we will see what happens.

37:20Yeah. I thought things were looking good for that.

37:22Or is it no longer?

37:23No, it was never looking good because Republicans.

37:25Looking better. Republicans seeded the ground for a month, which I never understood.

37:30One of the successes they've had in Virginia was framing Spanberger as this liberal once

37:35she got into office. They were helped by the facts, but they did it aggressively.

37:39And then once the redistricting happened, they were like, I guess we'll stop talking for

37:42a while other than, you know, myself and a handful of us.

37:45But people seem to be reengaged.

37:48So maybe this almost even fight, we could fight to almost win or a win.

37:53I'm not super optimistic. We'll see.

37:55All right. We're rooting for you guys from over here.

37:59And I hope that it works out.

38:01I don't know. I feel like the numbers I've seen have been good.

38:05I think I've told you I have a pollster friend who sends me stuff and

38:07he's never optimistic, but he's kind of optimistic on this.

38:10So we'll see. We'll see.

38:12I hope that his view prevails.
