2:56The show is normal. It takes for a living.

2:57This gets weird. I am Mary Calford.

2:59Pam. And I'm Carol Markowitz.

3:01I have to say that there was a security situation at Mar -a -Lago over

3:09the weekend where a man broke through the security perimeter carrying a shotgun and a

3:15gas can. Just, you know, why not?

3:17Secret Service ordered him to drop his weapon.

3:19He instead picked it up and aimed it.

3:22And then they shot and killed him.

3:23And this is not one of our three stories that we'll be covering today.

3:27That's insane. It is. I was somewhat grimly saying to a friend that next we're

3:35going to have people complaining that like, what, is this the kind of country you

3:38want to live on where a man, a free man can't wander onto the president's

3:43secure perimeter with a shotgun and aim at it and some Secret Service guys without

3:48getting killed? And it's like, well, yeah, that's actually how this works.

3:52And that makes for, I count it as the fourth assassination attempt because I count

3:57Iran's ongoing attempts to go after the president as one as well.

4:02And I don't think we talk enough about that.

4:04We really don't. Yeah. It's crazy.

4:07It's just not a big story.

4:08It's like, yep, another guy tried to potentially assassinate the president.

4:12I mean, the president wasn't there.

4:14So I guess that's really why it's a one day story.

4:17But nevertheless, if this was happening to Democrats, can you imagine what the New York

4:22Times would be doing? Yes.

4:23Yes. There was also an attempt to assassinate or a plot to assassinate Russ Vogt,

4:29the head of the OMB last week.

4:31That's also not a big story, but these pop up all the time.

4:35As we always noted, the Kavanaugh assassination attempt, which was very serious, post Dobbs leak.

4:42That one, not one we talk about either.

4:45So we just like to keep tabs on these things as we go.

4:48Right. We're going to keep mentioning it on Normally because it matters.

4:52It matters. It does. All right.

4:56Let's have some good news to start the show.

4:59USA! USA! All right. That's all I got.

5:03You go. Yes. The women's and men's hockey teams at the Olympics won gold.

5:11The men, for the first time in 46 years since the very, very famous miracle

5:17on ice, which was not the gold medal match, but when we beat the Russians

5:21back in the day and then beat...

5:22I haven't gotten to the end of that movie yet.

5:25Spoiler alert. Since the Lake Placid Games, that is the first gold for the men's

5:32hockey team. Both women's and men's won their gold medal in overtime with a golden

5:37goal. Pretty amazing stuff. The men's game this weekend was on at 8 in the

5:44morning. I did notice that Kathy Hochul, she allowed everyone in New York to drink

5:51at 8 in the morning for the hockey game.

5:53And I thought, you know what?

5:54Credit where it's due. I like that move, Kathy.

5:56Yep. She's like, how do you do, fellow kids?

5:59How about some alcohol? Would you like some alcohol?

6:02Let me let you do that without the state coming down upon you.

6:06Such a wonderful win for the U .S.

6:09It was over Canada. Both wins were over Canada.

6:12The men's win was over Canada.

6:142 -1 in overtime. And it was so glorious.

6:19And they were so happy.

6:21And Jack Hughes, who scored the winning goal, had had his tooth knocked out with

6:26a high stick just a couple earlier in the third period.

6:31And he's out there with the craggy teeth and bleeding and smiling and so resilient

6:37and gritty. And then they all just talked about how proud of America they were

6:41and how proud they were to be American.

6:43Yeah, it was so nice.

6:45It was he was just so he was glowing.

6:48And the fact that his brother was on the team, Mary Catherine, I just the

6:53whole thing I thought was so beautiful.

6:56And really, we needed this moment, although the people that need this moment, the rah

7:02-rah America moment, actually won't rah -rah America anyway.

7:06So it's kind of neither here nor there.

7:09But, like, if this had happened during a Democratic administration where, you know, maybe we

7:15were feeling like the country wasn't heading in the right direction, we would still be

7:19like, yes, amazing. Oh, I'd be elated.

7:20America, yeah. Yeah, we'd be like, and we'd feel maybe like we needed this more

7:25than ever at that time.

7:26Yeah. I don't feel like that's what's happening on the other side.

7:29No, there is this thing where, and actually the left is sort of confused about

7:33it because we like Alyssa Liu, who's the now gold medalist singles women's figure skater.

7:40Huge accomplishment. Right. She's American.

7:43She actually was approached by the CCP to be their propaganda gal.

7:48And she and her dad were like, no, no, no, we don't do that.

7:52She went the other direction.

7:53The left is like, don't you dum -dums know she's woke?

7:56Look at her hair and she has different views from you.

7:59I don't care. If she's proud of America, if she's proud to represent us and

8:03she goes out there and does it with verve and joy, I'm here for it.

8:08I'm so here for it.

8:09That's all it takes, you know.

8:10You know, we're really not that complicated.

8:12We're like, you love America.

8:13We love America. Let's do it.

8:15We love America, too. But there is a segment, unfortunately, who find it very complicated

8:19to root for America. There was a piece in the Huffington Post was like, if

8:24you have trouble waving the flag for America right now, you're not alone.

8:28It's like, I mean, there are too many of you, frankly, but the normies are

8:33not worried about this. Yeah, at all.

8:37Right. Yeah, it's they just I don't know.

8:41It's disappointing that we can't be together.

8:44I mean, the other part of the win where they brought out the children of

8:49their fallen teammate. I don't.

8:52Goudreau, am I pronouncing that?

8:54Yeah, I can tell this story.

8:55This one is this one is close to my heart.

8:57I think it was such a beautiful display of, frankly, masculinity, like the the toughness

9:04and tenderness together of this team was amazing to see.

9:07Johnny Goudreau, who was a NHL player, played at Boston University and then went to

9:12the Columbus Blue Jackets is where he played.

9:14He and his brother both were tragically killed on a bike ride in August 2024

9:19at the weekend of their what should have been their sister's wedding.

9:24Yeah. They were killed by an allegedly drunk driver who had road rage, tried to

9:27pass somebody and hit them on the side of the road when they were out

9:30that weekend. And his brother was a hockey player, too.

9:32Goudreau would have been on the Four Nations faceoff team that played a year ago

9:37against Canada. He would have been on this Olympic team.

9:40And those guys refused to forget him as they were going through this process.

9:44They always had a jersey hanging in his locker.

9:47And not only did they not forget him, they hoisted the jersey on the on

9:51the ice after they won.

9:52They didn't forget his family.

9:54And his widow, Meredith, was there with their with two of their babies.

9:58She had a third one after he died, seven months after he died.

10:01It was Johnny Jr.'s birthday on the day they won.

10:05He turned two. And two of those players who were teammates of Johnny's, after they

10:11took one team photo, skated over to the stands, grabbed two little toddlers, three and

10:18two year old, and took them to the ice for the team picture.

10:21And it was. Yeah, I had tears in my eyes.

10:24I'm about to cry again.

10:26Yeah, it's so nice. And they've been there for the past year and a half

10:30with this family, raising money for things, making sure that everyone's taken care of, including

10:35Matthew's widow as well, had a son after he passed away.

10:40They both had two little boys.

10:41They both had a boy each.

10:43And it was just really beautiful to see.

10:45And I think I wrote about it for Outkick, how we had these arguments about

10:49what masculinity looks like. And I think there's a model right there, like these incredibly

10:54tough, resilient guys who are willing to throw haymakers for their country, who are willing

11:00to get their teeth knocked out and also can grab a toddler and take care

11:05of a family and protect widows and children like that.

11:08That's what we're looking for.

11:09And they love America. Right.

11:11Extra. But men, they're not so bad men.

11:15And then they can go out and get drunk in the streets of Milan and

11:17do Olympic interviews. Yes. So the other thing going on with the Olympics coverage is

11:25that Kash Patel was celebrating with the team and this is causing a controversy.

11:31I think it's totally fine.

11:33I don't know. I have no problem with an American administration official celebrating with the

11:38American team. What do you think?

11:41I'm medium on it. Looks a little try hard to me, but I'm not going

11:44to make a big deal out of anyone having a beer with those guys because

11:47I would happily do it if I could.

11:48That's the thing, right? It's like if you were in a role where you could

11:53go to something like that, would you go?

11:56And I'm like, yeah, I'd go.

11:58I don't even follow hockey.

12:00I would absolutely go have beers with these guys.

12:02I believe Gretchen Whitmer was at the games, too.

12:05Like this is something that the higher ups do.

12:07I think I think people are free to ask how much of my taxpayer money

12:10are you using for that and are you doing something official?

12:13But yes, it's not super high on my list.

12:16I saw that the president FaceTimed into the locker room as well.

12:22And actually, can we play a little bit of Jack Hughes, who had the first

12:26pregame interview as he was the game winning goal?

12:29Here he is talking about what it means to him.

12:31It's all about our country right now.

12:33I love the USA. I love my teammates.

12:37It's unbelievable. The USA Hockey Brotherhood is so strong and we have so much support

12:42from the next players. I'm so proud to be American today.

12:46This was such an incredible game to grind out.

12:50I mean, you're bleeding right through it just looking at you right now.

12:53Can you just talk about how difficult this gold medal was to win?

12:56Unbelievable game by Hellebuck. He was our best player tonight by a mile.

13:01Unbelievable game. Unreal game by our team.

13:04That's just a ballsy, gutsy win.

13:06That's American hockey right there.

13:08That's a great Canadian team.

13:09But we're USA. We're so proud to be Americans.

13:13Tonight was all for the country.

13:14What does this gold medal mean to USA Hockey?

13:17It's everything. Like I said, the USA Hockey Brotherhood means so much.

13:20Look at these guys. We're such a team.

13:23We've been there for two weeks.

13:24We're such a team. The USA Hockey Brotherhood is so strong and we're so proud

13:29to win for our country.

13:31I love it. I love it.

13:33It's so beautiful. His brother, Quinn, scored the overtime goal in the game that got

13:38them to the gold medal game.

13:40And their mother is instrumental on both national teams and played on a national team

13:45herself. Wow. There's some wild lore.

13:47I did not know that.

13:48Okay. Ellen, there's some wild lore on these teams.

13:51One of the guys was a third generation gold medal Olympic hockey winner.

13:58Like his great uncle and grandfather were on the 1960 team.

14:02His uncle was on the 1980 team and now he's on this one.

14:06Amazing. So cool. Yeah. Yeah.

14:09Also, the Hughes family is apparently Jewish, which is confusing to me.

14:13But every single Jew in the universe has posted about this.

14:18They are. I saw her maiden name is...

14:24Hold on. So wait. Jewish mom hockey player is what you're telling me here?

14:28Uh -huh. That's what I'm telling you.

14:29No way. No way. Come on.

14:32Stop it. Ellen Weinberg -Hughes.

14:35No. No way. She was a hockey player.

14:38That's crazy. She was a hockey player.

14:44Next gen. I know. I just went ice skating for my daughter's 16th birthday over

14:48the weekend. Yeah. I'm not going to be playing hockey anytime soon.

14:52I made my kids watch Miracle with me this morning.

14:56We did it last night.

14:58Sometimes if your kids are...

14:59My kids are not super into sports.

15:01My older ones. It's like the Gene skipped a generation or something.

15:05And so I have to be like, there's a Disney movie about sports.

15:09So we could watch that.

15:11Yeah. So we started it last night.

15:12We had to turn it off before it got too late.

15:15We're going to continue it tonight.

15:17That's why now I know it wasn't an Olympic win.

15:19I mean... Well, yeah. It's the one that everyone remembers, though.

15:22They went on to win the gold medal by beating Finland.

15:25And everyone was like, yay.

15:27Right. We're up to the part where the coach tortures them after their Norway scrimmage.

15:33The kids are getting a lot out of it.

15:34I'm really enjoying it. I saw that our friend Guy Benson watched it last night.

15:38Both of us took the same picture of our television.

15:40I mean, it just feels good to be American.

15:45And all these families, like I said, supporting each other and the stories of the

15:49brothers and the generations is just lovely to watch.

19:25We are back on Normally, where Gavin Newsom is making news because he told a

19:33group of people that he is just like them, and he meant he's dumb just

19:39like them. It's actually not the first time that he's done that, where he touted

19:46his very low SAT score, and he said that he is, in this particular segment,

19:53he said, I'm like you, I'm a 960 SAT guy.

19:57He talked about how you'll never see him reading a speech because he can't read.

20:02Yeah, I just don't buy any of it.

20:05I think he is a very skilled politician.

20:09I'll just add that a few days ago, Ted Cruz called Gavin Newsom historically illiterate,

20:15and Newsom pretended not to understand what that meant and tweeted, Ted Cruz calling a

20:20dyslexic person illiterate is a new low, even for him.

20:23But now, being illiterate is something to be proud of and to tell a room

20:26full of people that you can't read.

20:30I, that, that take on the Ted Cruz hit was so lame, and it did

20:34indicate that maybe he can't read or perhaps does not know what historically illiterate means.

20:40I think what he's doing here, okay, so there's one accusation, which is that this

20:45is a racial thing. Now, we have looked into this, the crowd that he was

20:48speaking to. In this event, he is in Atlanta speaking to Democrats, being interviewed by

20:54Mayor Andre Dickens, who is a Black man, and there is some implication that this

21:00is a Black crowd and that he's trying to connect with this Black crowd by

21:03saying, I also can't read, guys.

21:05But Carol and I got some intel and some - From Chris Ruffo, who I

21:10was arguing with about this, because he said, I know we're supposed to laugh at

21:14Newsom, but he's an impressive talent whose political instincts are vastly superior to the perfect

21:18test score nerds who like to think they can outsmart him.

21:21You could put up as many IQ charts as you want, but it's a mistake

21:24to underestimate Newsom. I completely, fully agree with this.

21:28I still want to point and laugh at Newsom for saying stuff like this, because

21:31it reads so unbelievably fake to me.

21:34But Chris Ruffo was the one who said it wasn't a Black group or a

21:38Black crowd. That was good to know, because the original clip I saw identified it

21:41as a Black crowd. Right.

21:43And here's the thing. So it's not that - I think instead what he's doing

21:47is he is establishing a Biden stutter for himself.

21:52That's such a good, good analogy.

21:54And I think he's doing it too, obviously.

21:56Like, why can everyone can see what you're doing?

21:59You've hit it four times in the past week.

22:01This is his tour for his memoir, Young Man in a Hurry, which is a

22:06little wish casting because he ain't young no more.

22:10But I think what he's doing is he's creating a sympathetic excuse, something he overcame

22:18as a struggle, part of his biography that he can then blame a lot of

22:24mistakes on in the future.

22:25And he can then turn around on people who notice his mistakes by saying, how

22:29dare you notice that I'm dyslexic?

22:31A couple of things. Yeah, too obvious for me.

22:34He's hit it too many times too hard this week.

22:36I get what you're doing.

22:37The other one is if you've overcome something, you can't use it as an excuse

22:42for your mistakes. You've either been strong and overcome and struggled or you have not

22:48overcome and you can continue to blame it for everything.

22:51Yeah, absolutely. Let's actually roll that clip so people can hear exactly what he said.

22:56You know, I'm not trying to impress you.

22:58I'm just trying to impress upon you.

23:00I'm like you. I'm no better than you.

23:04You know, I'm a 960 SAT guy.

23:09And, you know, and I'm not trying to offend anyone, you know, trying to act

23:13all there if you got 940.

23:17But literally a 960 SAT guy.

23:20I cannot. You've never seen me read a speech because I cannot read a speech.

23:29It may be the wrong business to be in.

23:32And the thing is that he also pretends to be from this hardscrabble background.

23:38We have another clip from I think I believe it's last year where he's talking

23:42about just, you know, how tough he's had it and how how he grew up

23:46real poor. Here's that clip.

23:48You know, like the white state crime story.

23:53Come on. Crack macaroni and cheese.

23:57Are you talking about me?

23:59Yo, YG. YG, man. Every day.

24:02Every day in the backyard.

24:03Just bouncing the basketball. Throwing the ball against the wall until the ball is just

24:07like frame, man. And you're on yourself.

24:10That's it. Whole thing. So just and and then, you know, then this student that

24:14was shitty students in the back with his head down, all of a sudden started

24:18throwing the baseball a little faster than everyone else.

24:20And started, you know, make a few free throws because I was sitting there practicing

24:23500 of them every damn night.

24:25And in high school, I look up in the stands.

24:28My dad's back up there.

24:29OK. And it's like, man.

24:31And then he's bringing his friends and you're captain of the team.

24:35And you're like, you know, and it just saved me and it got me into

24:38college. For context, can I just say his father's name is William Alfred Newsom III.

24:45Yeah. So you tell me whether it was hardscrabble out there.

24:49Right. And this is from I have to I have to read this.

24:51This is from a recent fawning New York Times piece where they talk about how

24:55handsome he is for most of it.

24:57But here here is the relevant part.

24:59His parents divorce serves as a foundational event, the effects of which he continues to

25:04process. In the aftermath of their split, his traumatized young mother worked several jobs to

25:09scrape together a middle class life, while his well -connected father brought him into a

25:13circle of political power brokers and spectacularly wealthy oil heirs.

25:18Mr. Newsom emphasizes in his memoir through various anecdotes that it was his work ethic

25:22that led to success in sports, business and politics.

25:25But he does not deny that his father's friends were helpful along the way.

25:29Mr. Newsom comes from a long line of figures who built and shaped San Francisco,

25:33and his family is so entwined with the power structure that Nancy Pelosi's nieces and

25:37nephews were young Gavin's cousins.

25:39John Burton, a former congressman who would become one of the state's most powerful politicians,

25:44sat in the bleachers to watch Mr.

25:45Newsom play basketball in high school.

25:47A close friend of his father's was the oil magnate Gordon Getty, who took Mr.

25:52Newsom and his sister on a safari in Africa and on a visit to the

25:56king and queen of Spain.

25:58Those ties helped Mr. Newsom start a business that grew from a corner wine shop

26:02to a collection of wineries, restaurants and bars and an alpine resort.

26:07And they nurtured a political career that began when he was appointed as parking commissioner

26:11in San Francisco at age 29.

26:14I'm sorry. I don't care what you got on the SAT.

26:17You had a lot of privilege.

26:18And in democratic circles, I have been told that if you have privilege, you need

27:41as slick as some others think he is or that he thinks he is yeah

27:46but if he's going to work in rooms like that and if the media is

27:50going to be nice to him he's going to have quite a boon as he

27:52goes through this process yeah i i do think he's quite slick i think that

27:56he can be whoever you want him to be and when he's having a conversation

28:01with charlie kirk he's got himself a conservative son and he wants to point that

28:06out and all of that he is a shapeshifter i think he can really adjust

28:12to the moment and he already he's done stuff like you know he's talked about

28:17how you can't have biological boys and girls sports and all that reversed himself shortly

28:22thereafter he'll be back you know i think in the general if he makes it

28:26to the general i think he'll be right back to no boys and girls sports

28:28he can go one way or the other and you're right the media is going

28:31to be giving him a pass so it's not going to matter what he says

28:35as it normally doesn't for democrats yeah he really needs what is all democrats kryptonite

28:41which is a follow -up question right like you need to be like so what'd

28:46you do about the boys and girls sports yeah anything that's it yep yep um

28:52our other story today is bernie bernie sanders was asked a follow -up question and

28:58it did not go that great for him so he was asked why is the

29:04u .s more successful uh why do we have more successful businesses than europe and

29:09he is just incapable of providing anything that looks like an answer he goes back

29:15to his stump speech and talks about how europe has free health care and college

29:20is inexpensive never answers the question and i love this there was um bernie sat

29:26down with the new york daily news which is a new york city paper that

29:31does lean left uh he sat down with their editorial board in 2016 and they

29:36ever so gently just skewered him because he was incapable of answering any follow -up

29:42questions at all they were like he wanted to break up the big banks they

29:46were like how he had never considered it he had never even thought to like

29:49step two you know break up the banks how no no i don't know um

29:54and and this is you know like we always talk about democratic privilege they don't

29:58have to know anything they don't have to have any actual policy ideas they just

30:03have to be in the group in the club yeah and there's a fundamental problem

30:09with trying to redistribute wealth when you don't know where wealth comes from like that

30:15that is a problem for me and there are way too many people in this

30:19country i i joke on x all the time i have a picture of someone

30:24handing another person a copy of basic economics by thomas so well like bernie here

30:29here is a copy of a book you should look into because the invisible hand

30:34of the free market is so miraculous that in fact it does feel like magic

30:40and you don't know how you get all the prosperity that you are offered every

30:44day literally on your doorstep in this country and not knowing that leads you to

30:49think that it does magically manifest that you can cut off and take as much

30:55from jeff bezos as you want with no downstream effects at all right he won't

31:00leave he'll just stay there and let you let you take it well and now

31:03their new thing is i think bernie said well what we need is just a

31:07national billionaire's tax so they can't flee it and go anywhere it's like right okay

31:11well eventually you just won't have those businesses you won't have people creating because there

31:17isn't the same incentive to take a bunch of risk to create and you don't

31:21know that because you've never taken one risk you are bernie sanders who has enriched

31:25yourself only in government positions for the entirety of your life harping on the rest

31:31of the people who are doing that work and that that disconnect will sink sink

31:38a lot of prosperity in this country yeah they just he never is capable of

31:43thinking through what where his proposals are going to go it's just going to magically

31:47be okay and you know the line actually was he said uh you know we

31:51need a national wealth tax where are they going to go saudi arabia like yeah

31:55other countries are going to say hey rich people we won't bother you here it

32:00doesn't have to be saudi arabia it could be lots of other places if the

32:04chicago bears could propose leaving chicago then american billionaires can leave america like you should

32:11not assume that or their wealth just can't do not assume that they will just

32:17sit here and do the things you want them doing because you've imagined that they'll

32:22do that for any price they won't sometimes yeah democratic privilege man i wish we

32:27had some you know i know it'd be nice make the job easier it would

32:31be nice we'll be right back with more on normally and the debate over whether

32:36it's okay to urinate in the subway car i don't know we'll have to break

36:07We are back on normally where a debate is raging over whether urinating in a

36:14subway car is a big deal.

36:16And I do mean it's raging.

36:18The account Daniela underscore 127, she's a really wonderful person.

36:23I've met her in real life.

36:25She tweeted, my husband was on a crowded train yesterday when a homeless woman got

36:29on, pulled down her pants and peed all over the train in front of everyone.

36:33He hasn't stopped talking about it for the past 24 plus hours.

36:37It is the single most traumatizing thing that happened to him in New York City.

36:40Now, a lot of people are like, that's pretty lucky.

36:46That's also bad. I get that because I've had men masturbate in front of me

36:52on the New York City subway.

36:54So I get that a woman peeing is less traumatizing than that.

36:59But that's still pretty freaking traumatizing.

37:03And well, and the viral response to this is I've been on the subway with

37:08homeless people that peed, screamed, all sorts of stuff.

37:10It was mildly uncomfortable, but truly didn't impact my day in any way.

37:14Maybe your husband needs to toughen up.

37:16And to be fair, a lot of centrist Democrats types were pushing back on this

37:22like, we're done with this argument.

37:23Normal people will not listen to this argument because the idea that you with your

37:28family as a cost of riding the public transportation you're already paying for via taxes

37:36and fares is that you have to watch people have mental breakdowns and maybe be

37:41violently accosted. Yeah, no thanks.

37:43No. If you tell people, oh, you're just a wuss if you don't like that,

37:47that's not a winning message.

37:48Yeah. I've been saying this about New York for a while in that I grew

37:53up in New York when it was very dangerous in the 80s and it was

37:56extremely high crime and it was not a great place to be.

38:01But what I think is different about this current moment in New York is that

38:06nobody in the 80s was like, crime is not.

38:08that bad. And that is what has concerned me about New York's trajectory over the

38:13last few years. It isn't that things are getting progressively worse there, which is bad

38:18in and of itself, but it's this reaction of if you say anything about it,

38:22you're the bad person. And we talked about this a few weeks ago with the

38:25David Sedaris piece about getting bit by a dog and how, you know, Trump or

38:30no, you know, and how it read to people as pro -Trump if you complained

38:36about being bit by a homeless person's dog.

38:39And his joke was like, the only way that he can get sympathy is if

38:42he pretended the dog was named Trumper.

38:44And, you know, and this is crazy.

38:47It's crazy. The noticing of crime is not the problem.

38:51The noticing of social unrest is not the problem.

38:55The social unrest and the crime are the problem.

38:57And over and over and over again in governance, Democrats put the needs and the

39:05wants of those committing the social unrest and the crime above those who are affected

39:11by the social unrest and the crime.

39:13I've got a great example from this week in Northern Virginia where our Soros -funded

39:17liberal prosecutor, Steve Descano, took a bogus insanity plea from a murderer, a confessed murderer

39:26with a written plan entitled The Plan.

39:29Oh, yeah. Which he then took to a couple's house, murdered the husband while lying

39:35in his bed, shot him 10 times execution style with his children in the house.

39:39And because our prosecutor's office really is out of practice for prosecuting, they take far

39:47more insanity pleas than the average prosecutor's office.

39:50And even though this was a slam dunk case with all sorts of admissions and

39:55forensics and everything, they go, let's just send him to a mental health facility.

39:59We'll deal with it later.

40:00Yeah. And like he will be up for release from a mental health facility frequently,

40:05soon. And this happens over and over and over again because that guy is put

40:11above the victim's family, period, and the rest of the people who will be threatened

40:15by him. Right. And that's the thing.

40:17It's that the Democrats can't get their leftist flank in line on stuff like this.

40:23They, they, they did. You're right.

40:24There was a change. There was a definitely a shift in tone.

40:27If this had happened, this conversation in 2021, the Democrats would have largely all raised

40:33their hands and been like peeing on the subway is good, actually, because they did

40:36stuff like that. Toughens you up.

40:38Seasons the subway. Yes. Right, right.

40:42And you're racist if you don't think so.

40:45So I'm glad there's that shift, but they have to enforce that.

40:49What ends up happening is that this compassion that they all want to give these

40:52crazy people, it doesn't hurt.

40:54It doesn't just hurt the regular people on the subway.

40:57It actually hurts the mentally ill as well.

41:00As we pointed out on the show, I think it was 18 total people died

41:05in the cold because Momdani, Mayor Momdani of New York City, decided not to clear

41:11homeless encampments because he was trying to be compassionate.

41:14How is it compassionate to let people die in the freezing cold on the street?

41:18Like, it's not. And they think they're the good guys.

41:22So Democrats need to figure out a way to really get the leftists on board

41:28with some kinds of positions of sanity.

41:30Otherwise, like, it just it's going to continue to head in this direction because it

41:35was heading in this direction until the American people woke up.

41:39Well, and this is why to this day, I saw some polling from just this

41:42weekend where on major issues like crime, immigration still and the direction of the country,

41:47Republicans lead Democrats by one or two points.

41:50Now, that doesn't mean that's going to save them from the midterms.

41:53I don't think it will.

41:54But the fact that Democrats lost that much ground and even at this point in

41:58Trump's administration with the media completely lined up against it, yeah, they still can't get

42:05over those numbers, I think is indicative of how far gone they are.

42:11And a couple of people tweeting sensibly from the left on X is not going

42:15to be enough to put them back in a normal place.

42:17Right. You're going to have to just say out loud, letting homeless people freeze to

42:21death is not good policy.

42:23Well, we've got a blizzard coming up in New York.

42:25So we'll I guess we'll test that notion and we'll see if he'll be clearing

42:28them now. I do think somewhere in the middle there, they were like, oh, maybe

42:32fewer deaths is what we should be doing.

42:34You know, actually, a funny, not funny, I shouldn't say it's funny, but a point

42:38that I haven't seen anybody make about the 18 homeless deaths is that a lot

42:43of those people had homes and they were, you know, people with drug or alcohol

42:47problems who, you know, it's what we used to have the drunk tank for.

42:51And because that's no longer compassionate, it's no longer compassionate to take somebody who's inebriated

42:57off the streets. These people who actually had homes died on the streets of New

43:01York City in that in that cold.

43:03It's awful. I me thinks that if there were a Republican mayor who had made

43:07that decision, we'd hear more about that.

43:09But yeah, absolutely. You know, I don't want to end us on a bummer.

43:13So I'm going to take us back to the first segment.

43:15And we forgot to mention that Jack Hughes, first of all, he's a big reader.
