0:06I know you're in the middle of voting today.

0:08Sounds like the Save America Act might be starting its debate on the floor.

0:13Is that correct? I don't know.

0:14I think what I've heard recently that they don't have the votes, but we will

0:19find. But I don't have any special insight.

0:23I mean, it's going to be very close.

0:25If they do hit it, I don't see it more beyond 51.

0:29But I'm not really sure.

0:32It's a shame that they didn't make it more about just ID to vote.

0:36They turned it into other things.

0:38They turned it into kind of a Christmas tree, and they're hanging all these things

0:42on it. But now that's where we are.

0:45But we'll know. And having someone follow that, too, he's going to let me know,

0:51in fact, because I'm really interested to see how it goes.

0:54Because if they do, then that's going to turn into a really spectacle about what

1:01a talking filibuster is. Yeah.

1:04Well, let's see what happens.

1:05I mean, it's a pretty dramatic week ahead.

1:08Let me just start. I want to zoom out a little bit and talk about

1:11how you make policy decisions.

1:12And I want to just start with party.

1:14You ran as a progressive in 2016, lost.

1:17You beat Dr. Oz in 22.

1:19And now you have a 72 % approval rating from Pennsylvania Republicans and only 22

1:24% from Democrats. Are you a Republican or are you a Democrat, Senator?

1:30And kind of what's the way that you think about your party affiliation?

1:33Well, actually, I think the more realistic, the realistic numbers was like earlier in the

1:40morning console. And that hit me at basically 50 -50 with Dems.

1:45And I was in the 60s with Republicans.

1:50Without a doubt, without a doubt, that I am more popular with Republicans.

1:55And I'm mystified by that.

1:57I mean, I'm honored to have support from any Pennsylvanian.

2:01But what I will say that, you know, I'm just going to follow what I

2:07think is the moral clarity.

2:08And now in my very first race back in 2015, over a decade ago, what

2:15used to be a progressive is definitely not what a progressive started to turn into

2:19and what it became. And even in my race in 21 -22, I was announcing

2:26I am no longer. I'm just a Democrat.

2:29I'm not a progressive. And now there's been that evolution away from like those core

2:34principles that really weren't controversial.

2:37And now I've isolated myself by following and standing and proud to be unapologetically supporting

2:47Israel. And now if you've seen that that poll came out yesterday that the standing

2:53and the Democratic Party continues to deteriorate.

2:56I put that out on my social media and I said, I don't follow, I

3:01don't care about the polls.

3:02You know, there's a moral clarity here and that should be where the rest of

3:05us should should be. And now it's been really easy for me to to lean

3:12in on it. And that I created the only Democrat that's very supportive about Epic

3:19Fury. And I'm also the only Democrat that refuses to shut down the Department of

3:26Homeland Security. Yes. As a Democrat, we would like to make some some reforms on

3:31ICE. But what I'm unwilling to do is shut it down.

3:34And after that horrific, that attack.

3:38in Michigan, where where he was looking to kill 150 toddlers, you know, and now

3:45there's more and more kinds of these these events, why would you vote to shut

3:50our government down and the cybersecurity agency, you know, that must be incredible for the

3:57Chinese and the Iranians that we've shut that government down.

4:04So that's that, you know, I my core values haven't changed.

4:09If anything's changed, that's been kind of the core.

4:12What what's required to be a Democrat?

4:15And I'm going to follow what I think is true.

4:18What is the country over party, whether that's the right side of history?

4:24What do you think the Democratic Party used to stand for?

4:27What does it stand for today?

4:28And what do you think it should stand for?

4:30I honestly, I don't know.

4:33But what I will say, as I would refer to, to your listeners is like,

4:38listen to what the people that are running for the Senate as Democrats, watch what

4:45they're saying and doing. And that's becoming more and more anti -Israel, openly hostile to

4:53to Israel. And now that becomes part of the litmus purity test.

5:00I'm not going to take any of their money.

5:02I'm going to denounce that.

5:05And I was the only Democrat that's absolutely Netanyahu just done the right thing to

5:11break the that access there, Hezbollah and Hamas and now attacking also Hayuthis as well.

5:20So I mean, so do you know where what Democrats stand for?

5:24See who's running for the Senate.

5:27And now Planner, the Nazi tattoo guy, you know, on top of being an avowed

5:34communist and now said incredibly offensive things about women and sexual assault and now refers

5:43to rural people as stupid and racist.

5:47And so and now is that what Democrats want?

5:51I guess we'll see that.

5:52But, you know, you see in all these different things also in Michigan, too, a

5:57guy that really, as far as I know, has refused to condemn Hamas.

6:00And he led the, you know, no, the no, what was the no committed?

6:07It's like, forget what that that stupid thing was called.

6:10But it was like, you know, no vote, no vote for uncommitted, uncommitted, uncommitted.

6:15You know, we're not going to vote for Kamala Harris.

6:18And now they helped deliver Trump for Michigan.

6:23So that's like, look who's running and look who's being competitive.

6:27So that's you want to know where Democrats are.

6:30Look in those kinds of races.

6:32You know, it's interesting. We used to have the ability to agree on some things

6:37and disagree on other things.

6:39It seems nowadays, whatever the other side is doing or saying, you have to take

6:45the opposing view. And in many cases, it seems like that might force folks to

6:49kind of contort into these weird positions that don't even make logical sense.

6:54Why did we get to this point?

6:56What happened that everything had to be polar?

6:59There was never the ability for us to, there's no longer the ability for us

7:03to agree on some things while disagreeing on other things.

7:05What caused this change in this country?

7:07And can we get back from it?

7:10I don't know, like, part of my party's become so inflexible.

7:14What I've discovered that, you know, you, you know, you're, you know, you're, you're, you're,

7:16you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're,

7:16you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you You are not allowed to be a proud, unapologetic

7:19standing with Israel, but it's OK.

7:23It's not a big deal if you have a Nazi tattoo on your chest and

7:28you have people now in my party now who are trying to normalize that or

7:32to excuse that. I mean, like it's that's that's that's kind of where we are.

7:38And now I know what's toxic as a Democrat to disagree with.

7:43But for me. Those are, I think, our core values, you know, the kinds of

7:49values in Israel, kinds of the core value that we have always used to say,

7:53never, ever shut our government down.

7:55That's always wrong. You're going to punish union members.

7:58You're going to punish, you know, everyday Americans.

8:00Now, here we're doing those same things.

8:03And now I think our border, for example, I think secure our border, deport all

8:09the criminals. But now never, ever have the kind of tragedies like we had in

8:13Minneapolis. That's not what anyone really voted for, any of them supports.

8:17So, you know, if I'm more popular than Republicans, I don't really know.

8:22But but I also that I I treat everyone with respect and I don't refer

8:28to Republicans or members of MAGA.

8:31They're not Nazis. They're not fascists.

8:33They're not trying to destroy our country.

8:36Now, I know and I love many, many people that that voted for or support

8:42President Trump. I'm going to treat anybody with respect.

8:46I don't attack members of their families.

8:49I don't use and those kinds of attacks.

8:52We have to find a better way forward.

8:54And that's what I've been maintaining.

8:58Who do you think leads the Democratic Party today?

9:02Oh, we don't we don't have one.

9:04I think I think the the TDS that I think that's the leader right now.

9:10You know, right now, our our party is is governed by the TDS.

9:15And now it's made it virtually impossible without being punished as a Democrat to agree

9:20something's good or I agree with the other side.

9:23And I would define that by epic fury.

9:27I am literally the only Democrat in America in Congress that I've come across that's

9:33saying, I think it's a great thing to break and destroy the Iranian regime.

9:36I think it's entirely appropriate to hold them accountable.

9:40And what's strange to me that every single Democrat that's run for president and anyone

9:47that I know in Congress says we must never allow them to acquire a nuclear

9:52bomb. When that happens, why not celebrate that or acknowledge that I have only witnessed

9:59just criticism and this kinds of this kinds of attack?

10:04Like, yeah, you don't have to agree on every single thing.

10:09But when a good thing happens just because it comes from the different party, that

10:16that tells me that you're choosing the demand of the base or the party over

10:21country or what what's really, I think, appropriate in that circumstances.

10:27Now, I would say now, you know, to any country, any country, do you consume

10:31oil? Yes, of course we do.

10:34Well, then that makes it your problem, too.

10:36That makes you part of your responsibility.

10:38I don't know why, you know, like Israel and our nation did the heavy leaving,

10:45excuse me, the heavy, the heavy work to destroy the Iranian military apparatus.

10:53You know, now why? Why not, wouldn't you not, you know, help us to reopen

10:59the straits? Because you consume oil.

11:02You all could be the ability to, why not participate that?

11:10That's strange to me. So I think everyone, why can't you get behind?

11:15The only ones that aren't are China and Russia.

11:18Those are the same kinds of, especially in Europe, you know what they're doing to

11:23Ukraine for over four years.

11:25And we all know what the goals of China is.

11:29So to say it's not our war, it's like, yeah, well, it's our cause.

11:34And if you consume oil, and you all do, you know, that effectively makes us

11:39all part of this responsibility.

11:42Right. Do you think there's a clear path to getting out of Iran for the

11:47United States at this stage?

11:48How do you view this exit happening?

11:50It seems like the president, to some degree, is declaring victory.

11:54But on the other hand, there seems to be continued activity and push forward here.

11:59What's our exit path? I don't know.

12:03But what I will say, what's undeniably been happened.

12:07Now, first, why aren't all of the media outlets demanding proof of life from the

12:14Ayatollah? You know, ever since that first strike back in last month, not a peep,

12:20not a peep out of them.

12:21I mean, the Iranians are doing kind of like weekend at Italia's, you know, like

12:28they're just trying to pretend this guy is functional in any in any way.

12:32And now just today, today, you know, they just they just eliminated, you know, who

12:37was effectively the the de facto leader.

12:40You know, I think that's fantastic.

12:42Keep doing it for that.

12:44So and without a doubt, they have no capabilities at this point otherwise than to

12:50to fire off a drone at civilians at civilians.

12:55The Iranians have never done anything other than just attacking civilians.

13:00Absolutely. That's a fact. You know, they can't engage in traditional kinds of of combat.

13:07So those cowards, what they do is fire drones to create chaos.

13:12You know, they've been effectively neutered.

13:14And that's a wonderful thing.

13:15And that's also effectively broken the the proxies.

13:20And that's also made the world undeniably more secure.

13:23So and this is not this is not an I mean, this war is only

13:29three weeks into it. This whatever you want to call it, whatever the semantics, it's

13:34three weeks. This is not like a Ukraine in war.

13:37You know, this is three weeks.

13:39It's not, you know, neat.

13:42And it's not absolutely quick to dismantle the entire Iranian apparatus for the thing.

13:51Holding them accountable is entirely appropriate.

13:54And every single president since the last 40 some years wanted to do something about

14:00Iran. Finally, that's happened. It's a good thing.

14:04And now to your point about the strait and America looking for assistance to support

14:09the activities, the commercial oil activities through the strait, NATO allies have largely said no.

14:16Do you think that we're looking at the end of the NATO alliance?

14:20What does this speak to for the future of both America's leadership with the in

14:26the West and this alliance that has kind of created a great power center that's

14:31created balance in the world?

14:32I mean, it's NATO. I'm proud to be an American.

14:35And I believe, you know, we are a force of good in the world.

14:39And I don't truly don't understand why they don't want to join us to reopen

14:45the straits. But if you consume oil, that makes it part of your problem.

14:51And that makes you part of your responsibility to join us.

14:55So we've done the hard work at this point.

14:59And the horror of 10 -7 was born by the Israelis, too.

15:05Now they've done the appropriate thing to to destroy the proxies and to hold them

15:10fully accountable. And why the world can't rally around this to just do that.

15:17Now, I do believe we will be successful with or without their help.

15:21But remind people that it's been three weeks.

15:24And now for a nation that's 90 million, that used to be this fearsome force

15:29of military in the entire region, just been pulverized into irrelevance, other than just creating

15:36kinds of chaos, firing a drone there.

15:39And now they can't they can't even fight with honor.

15:43You know, they attack civilians.

15:45They've massacred their own, you know, there there would be more uprising because they're terrified

15:52because they've had the witnesses they've killed up to 35 ,000 of them last time.

15:59So they've been held accountable.

16:02As an American, hold them accountable.

16:05And that's a good thing.

16:07Yeah, I think the question a lot of people are asking, again, is what does

16:10success look like? What's it defined as?

16:13How do we get out of this?

16:14And when do we walk away?

16:16And that uncertainty, I think, is what has a lot of folks saying, I don't

16:20know if this is going to become another Iraq war or Afghanistan type situation.

16:25That's what makes sense. Absolutely absurd.

16:29This is not a nation building thing.

16:31This is a destroying a terrible regime.

16:35Disarmament, disarmament. You know, like, if you live in Europe, remember what you like if

16:41you would have disarmed the German Nazi regime before it really started.

16:47I mean, like, have you forgot the lessons of history?

16:51When you have a regime that is committed to destroying, you know, the nations in

17:00the region and now, like, why is it wrong to hold them accountable?

17:03And now, critics are attacking, well, it costs us a billion dollars.

17:11It's like, well, you know, not stopping Iran would be a hell of a lot

17:15more expensive in lives and economic impact.

17:19So that's that's the thing.

17:21Clearly, if you even consider of the lessons from history of disarming a dangerous, toxic

17:29regime, the way they've done that, why can't you be open to really participate, but

17:37at least not just acknowledge that the world's made safer as a result?

17:41There's a lot of criticism from both sides of the aisle that perhaps the United

17:46States, President Trump were unduly influenced by Netanyahu and by the Israeli lobbyists in the

17:53United States. You know, maybe you can address that point.

17:56You've taken money from AIPAC.

17:58And I know that you've kind of been that's been brought up before.

18:00But how do you react to the argument that many are making that Israel has

18:04undue influence on our politics and our our kind of global actions?

18:09Well, that that plays into the.

18:12to the anti -Semitism and the tropes.

18:14And it's like pulling all the strings and they're behind.

18:18It's just that's just part of the it's become more and more acceptable as a

18:23Democrat to say these things, you know, and it's like like Tucker Carlson and and

18:30Fuentes and these these people, you know, like no one claims them.

18:34No one claims them. You know, I promise you no one at least I sit

18:39around wondering what those are the kind of visuals and their opinions on Israel or

18:43anything at that point. Same parts of my party as well, too.

18:48Now, if you if you want to normalize that a Nazi tattoo is kind of

18:52like a one off, it's no not a big deal.

18:55Or if you think Israel engaged in a genocide, you know, how ignorant that is

19:00to the actually what defines a genocide is is the exact opposite.

19:07They were in a just war, you know, and I remember where it started and

19:12remember what Hamas continued to do.

19:14Send everybody home and there they would be the end of this.

19:18So so that's that's part of this.

19:22And now how anti -Semitism out of control, out of control, you know, on our

19:27college campuses and as well in in the world, even in San Jose, you know,

19:34a Jew was beaten just having dinner.

19:37You know, you have people driving, crashing into synagogue, kind of like tree of life.

19:44But thankfully, he was immediately killed by the security.

19:47They had security because they had to provide those because they knew that's always an

19:52ever present kinds of risk there.

19:55Thank God. Thank God what that could have made possible without them.

20:00So that's that's where we are.

20:02And I don't listen to parts of whether it's my party or the extreme and

20:06the right. You know, I never turn to someone like Tucker Carlson for wisdom or

20:11their views on on this or anything.

20:14You know, honestly. Well, so let's talk about another controversial topic, which we just hit

20:19on for a moment at the start of the show, which is to say that

20:2183 percent of Americans support voter ID for elections.

20:25The Senate scheduled to take up the Save Act supposedly or potentially this week.

20:30You've said you don't support the Save Act in its current form.

20:34What do you think needs to be changed?

20:36Do you generally agree with the idea of using voter ID for elections?

20:40Well, the Republicans have never had any outreach or to engage.

20:45You know, they never said, hey, well, can we rework it?

20:47Oh, you know, what can we offer?

20:49And I'll make it, you know, real ID, real, real ID to vote.

20:55Keep it simple. You know, so like, yeah.

20:58Why not? Why not? You know, like, it's like that that that would I am

21:04not outraged by providing ID to vote.

21:07Seventy one percent of Democrats are OK with that.

21:10Eighty three of Americans are OK with it.

21:12Make it that then. Yeah.

21:14And I'm interested to really to have that conversation.

21:18Another thing that they continue to do, they try to smear voting by mail.

21:25That's absolutely safe. And the red states in America, like Florida, Ohio and others, they

21:33rely on it. The more rural a state is, they really use that, too.

21:38So they've made it this Christmas tree of hanging all these these kinds of boutique

21:45and other issues. Now, if you are serious and like, hey.

21:50I'm ID to vote. You know, you might bring some actual Democrats on that.

21:54I'm not, you know, I refuse the kind of extreme rhetoric about it's not Jim

22:00Crow. It is not trying to suppress Americans from voting.

22:05It's making it perhaps more secure and have a serious conversation.

22:11And that's why I said I'm unwilling to support it in its current, current form.

22:17And do you think there has been election fraud?

22:20And to what extent? Well, I mean, in my experience as lieutenant governor in 2020,

22:27there was a lot of allegation that there was that and not one single remind

22:32people roughly 57 out of Pennsylvania, 67 counties are deep, deep red, not one single

22:40one. There was no fraud.

22:43There was no fraud. And now we identified, I think, believe it was six, six

22:48or seven. In fact, and now coincidentally, they all happened to be Republicans that were

22:53voting for President Trump. And mostly they used a dead relative to try to devote

22:58that and they were caught.

22:59So voter fraud in Pennsylvania, it is absolutely secure.

23:03I can actually, you know, I've witnessed that.

23:06And now in Pennsylvania, the Republicans drove that train of voting by mail.

23:12That was their idea. That was what they demanded.

23:15And in return, we dropped the straight party voting by just push a button to

23:20vote straight down the entire ticket, ticket voting.

23:23And now they had to turn their views because at that time the president decided

23:29that that's a terrible thing.

23:31So, I mean, you know, two things must be true.

23:34It's not outrageous to show ID to vote, but voting by mail is an honorable,

23:39safe and secure way that Republicans across our nation have been doing it and doing

23:44it some in the most secure ways as examples.

23:48Do you think there's non -citizen voting going on?

23:50One of the arguments that's made is that the Democrats opened the border, brought in

23:55a lot of non -citizens, gave them access to vote in some way, either mailing

23:59ballots without showing proof of citizenship or whatnot.

24:02And that really boosted Democrat votes across blue states.

24:06Is that fair or is that unfounded and just?

24:09That's a great point. And I am concerned about that.

24:13You know, hey, is there an issue?

24:14So I just ran this.

24:16That is the Heritage Foundation.

24:20Yeah, Heritage Foundation. You know, they said that at their database between 1999 to 2023,

24:28they identified 77 instances of non -citizens voting between 1999 and 2023.

24:36And that's the Heritage Foundation.

24:37You know, that's, you know, there.

24:39So for me, that would identify that it doesn't seem that, you know, the Heritage

24:44Foundation doesn't claim that there's more than 77.

24:48So that's why I'm saying if you're really serious and you want to have that,

24:52let's make it about ID, not all these other kinds of parts that it dilutes

24:58the core mission of like showing ID or making it more secure.

25:03So why have Democrats been so opposed, not just to this act, but generally to

25:08the idea of showing ID for voting.

25:10Many of the interviews and arguments that have been made by Democrat politicians in media

25:15have brought in ideas that, well, not everyone has access to an idea.

25:19I am not one of those Democrats.

25:21I am not one of those Democrats that they say that that's terrible.

25:24Why are they saying that?

25:25Because if it's such an obvious common sense.

25:28action 83 % of voters supported why are so many in the party and this

25:33is where a lot of people have conspiracy theories that they're using it to harvest

25:36votes and so on why are they opposing it what is actually going on i

25:41i i i can't speak for them but what i'm saying is like i refuse

25:47to i'll never tell 83 % of americans that it's awful and terrible to show

25:51id to vote you know yeah and i'm i've said that publicly again and again

25:57and again 71 % of our democrats have no problem with it and you want

26:01to know what really backed that up wisconsin in april of 2025 they had a

26:08ballot initiative to show id to vote that passed nearly two to one they also

26:15elected one of the most liberal members of now the supreme court in that same

26:20election it's not controversial to vest majority of americans i'm never going to be in

26:27the business to tell 80 some percent of americans that you're you're jim crow or

26:33you're trying to suppress votes fair enough uh well let's come back to the dhs

26:38point you made earlier you were one of the uh you were the only democrat

26:41actually to vote to fund dhs but you did say that agents in minnesota lost

26:47the plot what's your red line on immigration enforcement so what should ice be doing

26:53and what should ice not be doing there should never be a red line never

27:00shut the government down just don't do that we used to be the party that

27:05refused to do those things we were outraged outraged when tuberville was jamming up some

27:12of the military uh promotions freak out freak out you know and now here we're

27:19we shut the whole damn government down i was one of only two democrats to

27:24push back on that last year and now i'm on the only one if it's

27:29wrong for them then it should be wrong for us as well too but just

27:33to focus on ice i mean ice's actions in minnesota where do you think ice

27:37should be doing immigration enforcement and how versus what do you think they shouldn't have

27:41been doing yeah i for me you know hey i was i was the democratic

27:47lead on lake and riley bill because that was a serious bill they you know

27:52katie brit called me up and saying hey what do you think and i'm like

27:56yeah 100 yeah let's let's work together on it that that's a serious that's a

28:00serious effort uh and now i led that and enough democrats broke cloture on that

28:07that's why it's a law in america right now you know i'd like to think

28:11that my credentials on border security as a democrat is platinum you know uh and

28:17i even i voted for no one of the few democrats that her i met

28:21with her treated her with respect and you know refused to use the kind of

28:25sexist and gross terms like ice barbie and those kinds of thing refused to do

28:30that she absolutely lost the plot i called for her to resign she became a

28:35mayorkas i was a democrat calling out that mayorkas was a disaster without a doubt

28:40you know we cannot this is unsustainable and this is uh damaging our nation and

28:46making it impossible to deliver an american dream for any migrants at that point do

28:51you think that ice's mandate should be to remove every illegal immigrant from this country

28:56or do you think that they should be going after just one group and leave

29:01others and we have to legislate what's the right way for ice to operate no

29:05you know you have the about majority of Americans secure our border.

29:10They've done that without a doubt.

29:12And deport every criminal. They're gone.

29:18And now, you know, Pennsylvania, that's our top industry is farming, agriculture.

29:25And constantly, that's their issue.

29:29Labor, labor, labor, it's really problematic.

29:32You know, targeting otherwise lawful migrants, I don't think that's what America really wants.

29:39And honestly, that's not what America needs.

29:40You know, they are an important part of our economy and finding a better way

29:46to address that. Hey, I'm here for that conversation.

29:50My wife was a dreamer.

29:52You know, I would love to work with the other side.

29:55You know, I shouldn't punish a two -year -old that was brought here, had no

30:00idea at that age. You know, so I think they've made some, you know, important

30:06contributions to our nation. I'm a pro -democrat.

30:09I'm a pro -immigration Democrat, but I'm also the only Democrat to refuse to shut

30:14our government down the way that we're at.

30:17And now I'm becoming the only very proud supporter of Israel.

30:22And I'm the only Democrat that's saying destroying a regime, you know, that like Iran

30:28is a good thing. So do you think that that creates a bad incentive with

30:33the, what people call anchor babies, where an immigrant comes to the United States, has

30:36a baby and then stays and the baby has citizenship?

30:40That seems to be one of the kind of big debate points right now.

30:45Well, I mean, for me, I, I, what I will say is, is like, if

30:49you secure a border, that makes those kinds of things more and more difficult or

30:55unlikely to happen. Now, I, you know, back in 2023, you saw the numbers, 300

31:02,000 people showing up at the border.

31:05You know, that's the side of Pittsburgh.

31:07I describe that in terms of Pennsylvania, that the size of Pittsburgh is showing up

31:12at the border. That's unsustainable.

31:14You know, have to do something about it.

31:16You know, Mayorkas had to go.

31:18He's been a liability. That's why I described Noam.

31:21And I called her to, to go.

31:23What was, why did, why did President Biden open the border?

31:26What was the motivation? What have you heard from Democratic Legion?

31:29I'll tell you that the truth is I was shocked when, when they dropped article

31:3442, you know, in my primary, it's like, we all ran on that.

31:38That wasn't controversial. I was stunned when they dropped that.

31:42And you could see this, you know, right up after that.

31:46Was it to reduce labor costs or to bring in Democratic voters?

31:49Or what was the motivation, do you think, from the party?

31:52And you must speak to party leadership that tells you why they're justified or were

31:56justified for doing that when they did it.

32:00I don't know, but I was, I was alarmed.

32:02And I was honest. It's like, you know, for me, like for any politician, if

32:07you are telling the people their eyes that you're crazy or not right, you lose,

32:12you know, and we were punished.

32:14We were punished in 24.

32:15The border was a serious, serious failure as, as Democrats.

32:20So it's like holding us accountable.

32:23And now that's part of our responsibility to learn from, from that situation now.

32:29And I do hope, and I do hope that Republicans learn from Minneapolis doesn't help

32:33anybody that, that doesn't, you know, it doesn't help your cause, you know, and it,

32:38and in people that absolutely, uh, the optics, whether that's the optics or the kinds

32:44of tactics, any. that you're not winning anybody over right so i want to switch

32:50gears to my favorite topic which is the the fiscal condition of the united states

32:54government we have 40 trillion dollars of debt and we're going to have a two

32:59trillion dollar deficit this year a trillion dollars of that is just interest on the

33:03existing debt that number is getting bigger and bigger every year and a bunch of

33:06programs are going to run out of money including social security which is projected to

33:10run out of money sometime between call it five and ten years from now this

33:14is a classic debt debt spiral problem you know what is how much does congress

33:20pay attention to this problem is it something that's talked about because a lot of

33:23the conversation seemed to be about what the polls say so that people can get

33:27elected again the next cycle versus looking at this big looming debt problem we're facing

33:32and how we're going to address it yeah that's a huge concern for me i

33:37mean you know i'm i'm old enough to remember when a billion dollars met something

33:41or that was a lot of money and now the trillions are becoming more kinds

33:45of and it's not kind of like social security social security for example now they

33:52just need to make some small small adjustments for actual on the actuarial kinds of

33:57things and that could extend it well into the 20 uh 20 70s to the

34:0320 80s just small small kinds of things that would require real leadership and that

34:09would require them to just put down the partisan guns and just stop attacking each

34:13other and find a real solution for all of americans and now you'll never address

34:18debt until you both sides agree we're going to stop tearing each other apart we're

34:24going to find a way forward you know i hope i hope more americans want

34:29my views of why just turn it into just uh professional wrestling or do you

34:36really want to find a better way like uh effectively if you turn washington dc

34:43as the jerry springer show you know you asked me earlier what's the leader of

34:48the democratic party right now i would say it's tds that that is that's driving

34:54the conversation if he supports you know he could come out for ice cream and

35:00lazy sundays and now suddenly democrats would hate it we would want to vote it

35:04down yeah well there's there's also a lot of discussion right now about fraud in

35:08the government i don't know if you've seen these videos out of minnesota and this

35:12guy nick shirley doing them out of california yeah let me say that let me

35:15say that yeah yeah yeah yeah like i absolutely like why can't you celebrate any

35:20journalist or any you know activist doing that and what you know uh governor newsom

35:27put out a disgusting video implying that he's you know a pedophile or he's that

35:33that like why you know like i mean like that's like kind of a smear

35:37you know like you can you may you want to disagree or but but to

35:42imply that someone someone in one of the most gross kinds of terms like that

35:47well it's like hey shouldn't we agree like you know eliminate all the waste if

35:54it exists under under my perfume let's eliminate it let's call that what it is

35:59you know i'm not going to call someone or imply that you're you're a pedophile

36:04or you're you know going after kids in the gross ways but what's crazy to

36:09me and so many other people that have seen these videos is to then see

36:13reactions from leaders in the democratic party saying we don't have a problem this is

36:18racist this is whatever and denouncing that the reports of this but when you see

36:23this fraud in anger everyone.

36:24You're spending money as a taxpayer, and then you're giving the money away to fraudsters.

36:29It should. It should. Yeah, it should.

36:31It should. You should be angry.

36:33And, you know, like fraud can happen on both sides.

36:37But when it's identified, I don't care if it's in a democratic state, like we

36:42should all just acknowledge maybe there is a problem here.

36:44This is part of the thing.

36:46If you tell voters that you're wrong or, you know, hey, it's no problem, there's

36:50nothing here, then you lose.

36:52And now that you want to turn that into, if you want to turn that

36:56into, like the border, you know, what Democrats is in 2023.

37:00You know, we do that at our own peril.

37:03You're so rightly critical of so many of these points, John.

37:07Why are you still a Democrat?

37:08It passed. Yeah, it's so safe just passed.

37:12My staffer just handed it to me 51.

37:14Oh, you're kidding. Wow. They went forward, huh?

37:18Yeah, it's going it's going forward.

37:21The debate. Yeah, yeah, it goes to the debate.

37:24Yeah. And so what do you think will happen there?

37:26Will this last a couple days, a week?

37:29I mean, how's this process going to go?

37:31I have no idea. I am not going to pretend to know exactly how the

37:36next couple of days are going to look.

37:37The question I asked just before that was, you know, you're rightly critical of so

37:42many of these positions that the Democratic Party leadership takes.

37:45Why are you still a Democrat?

37:46Have you thought about switching parties?

37:48Because I am a Democrat.

37:50And it's not because I've changed.

37:52It's because because, you know, parts of my party has changed right now.

37:57And that's that's where I'm at.

38:00I'm going to continue to be an independent voice.

38:03I'm going to call balls and strikes.

38:06I'm always going to pick country over part of my base or what they demand.

38:16One of the one of the clear rising themes right now in this country going

38:19into the midterms and probably going into 28 for the presidential election cycle is the

38:24massive wealth inequality in this country.

38:26Do you think we have massive wealth inequality?

38:29And is it you know, can you identify the origin?

38:31Where is this coming from?

38:34I don't I don't really know.

38:36But I don't hate billionaires.

38:39I don't make them the problem.

38:41And now that with Democrats, we love billionaires.

38:43If we're supporting our we're supporting our causes or there's they're underwriting, you know, things

38:49that are near and dear to us.

38:51In fact, we actually have a billionaire as a Democratic governor.

38:54You know, that doesn't mean he's an oligarch and trying to destroy America.

38:58You know, so like it's about trying to be more honest and stop attacking each

39:03other and find what we can agree on now.

39:06But we live in the kinds of attention economy and just, you know, saying outlandish

39:13thing and making, you know, crazy statements.

39:16You know, yeah, that drives the clicks, but that's not governments.

39:20That's not. Well, it's it's on the ballot now in California to pass a wealth

39:24tax. And it starts as a one time 5 % tax for billionaires.

39:29But it gives the legislature in California the ability to lower the threshold and make

39:34it every year if they wanted to and change the percentage.

39:37Ro Khanna and Bernie Sanders have talked about passing a national wealth tax.

39:41Do you think we are going to find ourselves in that conversation in 2028?

39:44And we're going to have a national wealth tax, where eventually, just like we started

39:48with a 1 % income tax, eventually, everyone will pay a significant percentage of their

39:52net worth every year to support government services.

39:56I mean, Senator Sanders is never you.

40:02Represented more than a very small, you know, state, you know, like win, win a

40:09competitive state. So you have your own ideas and, you know, like we'll see what

40:15really is required to to to win, you know.

40:21Yeah. Well, so let me ask.

40:23He's also recently called for a moratorium on building AI data centers.

40:27I work in Silicon Valley.

40:29China loves it. China loves it.

40:33Yeah. Let's hand hand AI that race over to the Chinese.

40:38Why do you think leaders in the party are supporting this idea?

40:41It's so obvious what's going to happen if we do this.

40:43But, you know, do you think AI is going to increase wealth disparity in this

40:48country? Win a real, you know, competitive election.

40:52Win one. Then you can lecture me or you can tell me, hey, what's the

40:57right direction? Otherwise, you know, like it's like they are they are the part of

41:04the party that's so hypercritical, you know, and those kinds of excess is like to

41:09fund the police and and abolish ICE and these outlandish kind of thing.

41:16You know, they're the same part of the party now that loves the dude with

41:19the Nazi tattoo on his chest.

41:21Right. And then I just want to cover agriculture real quick.

41:24I've heard reports that the vast majority of U .S.

41:27farms lost money on the Senate Ag Committee, which is why I'm asking this.

41:30And this is becoming, I think, a big national issue that the majority of U

41:33.S. farmers lost money last year, if not for the federal government providing support payments,

41:38crop insurance and would have been one time bailouts.

41:42Do you think we have a path to fixing agriculture in this country?

41:44And how do we get farmers back on track where they can earn a living

41:47without requiring checks from the government?

41:50Farming is such a hard job.

41:52I absolutely revere American farms, especially in Pennsylvania ones.

41:58Their job, you know, quite literally feeds us.

42:02I fully support all of their efforts.

42:05You know, I was deeply troubled by many of those tariffs.

42:08And also the ones that I talked to, labor, labor, labor has made that very,

42:14very difficult. I, you know, we should celebrate and support farmers because I know because

42:20I've visited enough farms to see how hard, backbreaking labor it is to just deliver

42:26food to your table. So that's part, that's part of it.

42:32And that's kind of connected to things.

42:35Thankfully, we have the kinds of abundance in our nation for our food.

42:39And now why, that's why, that's part of the immigration conversation.

42:46That's part of the tariffs and wherever like that.

42:48So, so the kinds of things that are hurting a lot of the people that

42:52are just almost uniformly read parts of my state.

43:00Yeah. And, and, and just to wrap up, I mean, you, you've said you want

43:03to save the democratic party, not abandon it, which, you know, you repeated here today,

43:08you're a Democrat, but, you know, with only 22 % approval rating among Pennsylvania Democrats,

43:13I mean, how do you carry this forward?

43:16And, you know, what's the way to kind of bring this party out of the

43:21doldrums, if you will, that there's a lack of leadership and a lack of moral

43:25clarity, as you call it?

43:26Well, as, as I said earlier, there was, there was, there was a poll out

43:31that was, it was current to that.

43:33And it has me around 50, 50, you know, that's more accurate.

43:38So I'm not worried about 28.

43:41You know, we have Iran.

43:42We have a lot of other things right now.

43:46So I'm just I'm not I'm not, you know, the parlor games about something, you

43:52know, like I've never felt better of just voting my conscience, voting country over party

43:58and just following the moral clarities.

44:01And really, really important kinds of of of things like destroying Iran, securing Israel and

44:09standing with the Jewish community and Israel after everything that they've been through and how

44:16close how much more optimism of of real peace.

44:23You know, yes, that's there's a lot of warfare now.

44:25But then I think that's a path for for more enduring peace.

44:29There's been a lot of genuine speculation that you might run for president in 28.

44:33Is that on the table?

44:35I, you know, it's like about 28.

44:39You know, I don't know what what what America wants or the direction.

44:44You know, I'm following what I've just said.

44:46That's the moral clarities. And well, thanks for speaking your voice.
