0:21Pray for me. I'm going to have a bunch of 18 -year -olds, my son

0:26and several of his friends, down for spring break with Dad as chaperone.

0:31So we will see how that goes.

0:33But that is officially underway.

0:37And we've got a lot to update you on.

0:39Yet another early morning press conference from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth laying out all

0:45the particulars that is dominating discussion as we begin the day here on the Friday

0:52edition of the program. We're going to go out to California at the top of

0:57the next hour just to give you a heads up.

0:59The primary in California is getting closer and closer.

1:02Steve Hilton, Republican candidate there.

1:04The top two advance regardless of party.

1:07We will discuss all of that and what is a free -for -all absolute Donnybrook

1:12that has broken out in California.

1:14What is the latest there on who might be the next governor to replace Gavin

1:18Newsom. But, Buck, I think we begin where we basically ended yesterday's show with the

1:25news coming of it officially, as we told you it was likely to be, having

1:30been yet another terror attack.

1:33Two different terror attacks happening yesterday.

1:36One in Virginia at Old Dominion.

1:38We'll get into some of the details there.

1:40Brave, ROTC students were able to disarm and kill the would -be terrorist with their

1:50bare hands. And that is pretty remarkable.

1:53We will talk about it.

1:55One loss of life there.

1:57We will certainly honor that loss of life as well.

2:01In West Bloomfield, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, a clear attempted terror attack, a good

2:08guy with a gun ended it and took and killed the life of the would

2:13-be terrorist. But, Buck, coming on the heels of Austin, Texas, where a guy in

2:19an Iran shirt and a pro -Islam sweatshirt on top of that killed two innocent

2:25people and wounded several others.

2:27You then have the situation in New York City where two would -be ISIS sympathizers

2:34tried to throw IEDs outside of Gracie Mansion in New York City, which fortunately did

2:40not go off. And now we are sitting here with Austin, Texas, New York City,

2:47Old Dominion University in Virginia, and just outside of Detroit in Michigan, four different Muslim

2:54fundamentalist -motivated terror attacks in the space of about two weeks.

2:59It feels unlikely to me that this is the end of it, Buck.

3:04And you joined the CIA some time ago specifically to help catch the bad guys

3:11after 9 -11. So you are particularly well -versed in this.

3:14What is your reaction now that we have what we suggested was likely to be

3:18the case, but now have complete confirmation that all four of these attacks have the

3:24same motive in place as the war in Iran continues?

3:27What would CIA analyst Buck Sexton be doing this morning if he was in Langley?

3:32Well, I think we can count on the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN,

3:37and others to remind us that while all the terrorist attacks that are actually happening

3:42are Islamic radicals, the real threat of terrorism in this country remains white supremacy.

3:49That's the real threat. Which is the focal point of Biden's presidency was arguing the

3:56biggest danger that we all face.

3:57For those of you who have forgotten, he constantly gave us multi -years of that

4:03argument. And I just think that we're one Islamic jihadist, or I guess that's kind

4:09of repetitive because all jihadists are Islamic, but one jihadist terror attack away from some

4:15guy, instead of yelling Allahu Akbar before he hits the plunger on the suicide vest,

4:20maybe he'll scream out, the real terrorist threat is white supremacy.

4:24Kaboom. I just wonder at what point the Democrats will have to reassess the big

4:32white supremacist threat. By the way, per capita is also something that tends to challenge

4:36the left and Democrats tremendously.

4:38They have no understanding of this whatsoever.

4:40They compare the overall threat of Islamic terrorism and the overall threat of white supremacist

4:48terrorism in this country. They also always leave out, there are 5 million, 6 million

4:54Muslims in the country, maybe 7 million, something like that.

4:58I don't even know how many white people there are, 150 million, 180 million, I

5:03don't even know. So the fact that you're even having a conversation about where is

5:07the real threat of, and I just want to be very clear, there are jihadists

5:11who are white. It's actually not about race at all, but the Democrats don't understand

5:14that. Remember the guy who was captured, who was fighting for the Taliban?

5:17That can happen too. Islam is an ideology.

5:19It's not a skin color.

5:20It's not a race. They always try to conflate those things because they know...

5:24He was He was He that if they can make it about racism, well, then

5:26everyone's, oh, my gosh, it's not racism.

5:28It's about an ideology, okay?

5:29No one's sitting here saying, you know what the real threat of terrorism is right

5:32now? All the Buddhists in America, oh, my gosh, I'm so scared of them.

5:35It has nothing to do with skin color, it has to do with ideology.

5:38And this is exactly what you would expect after, remember, it's not just American strikes

5:43on Iran. It is American -Israeli strikes, American -slash -and -Israeli strikes on Iran.

5:50And so the fact that Israel is just blowing up Iranian stuff left and right,

5:55too, that really sets off the jihadi community.

6:00And looking at the Iran situation, Clay, today, I know Hegseth talked about it.

6:05We have some more. Well, you know what?

6:07Here, let's have, here is Secretary of War.

6:09This is cut one. The not -so -supreme leader, he says, of Mojtaba, Lil Mo,

6:15as Clay calls it. This is cut one.

6:16Play it. Iran's leadership is in no better shape.

6:19Desperate and hiding, they've gone underground, cowering.

6:22That's what rats do. We know the new so -called not -so -supreme leader is

6:27wounded and likely disfigured. He put out a statement yesterday, a weak one, actually, but

6:33there was no voice and there was no video.

6:35It was a written statement.

6:37He called for unity. Apparently killing tens of thousands of protesters is his kind of

6:41unity. Iran has plenty of cameras and plenty of voice recorders.

6:45Why a written statement? I think you know why.

6:48His father, dead. He's scared.

6:50He's injured. He's on the run and he lacks legitimacy.

6:52It's a mess for them.

6:54Who's in charge? Iran may not even know.

6:59Now, this is on the good side of things, Clay, that we're just there.

7:04There's no military counterpunch from Iran whatsoever.

7:08The concerning side of this or the side of this, I think everybody needs to

7:12understand as well. The Iranians, he said this, the Iranian leadership now, they're fully hiding

7:17under in bunkers and they're not meeting in any kind of consolidated place.

7:23And they're just going to ride this thing out and there's no opposition taking to

7:28the streets. So the regime is not changing.

7:31Everyone, the regime is not changing.

7:33We just have a defanged temporarily Iranian regime.

7:37Maybe they'll have a different approach to the next round of negotiations.

7:40But I do not see regime change happening here.

7:43Now, some of you will be, I think, happy with that.

7:44It also means no U .S.

7:45boots on the ground and a limited mission.

7:47Clay, I read this morning getting ready for the show a couple of different angles

7:52that I thought were super interesting that we could dive into a little bit later

7:57in the program. One, David Boies, who is probably the foremost trial attorney who is

8:04a Democrat in terms of intellectual heft and success in the country, whatever you think

8:10about his politics, wrote a great editorial in the Wall Street Journal saying Democrats need

8:16to stop reflexively being opposed to President Trump, that it's actually a really good thing

8:21that we went into Iran.

8:23And he lays out a very strong argument, I thought, and I was impressed that

8:28he did it. Did you see this?

8:30Because I do think it's a little bit of an interesting shift.

8:34I think you have more respect for Boies because of his lawyer success than I

8:39tend to, given that he served as a board member and counsel for Theranos, the

8:45fraudulent blood testing company, and basically threatened to go after Wall Street Journal reporters who

8:52were trying to unearth that Theranos was a giant fraud.

8:55So he got taken in by that whole thing, I guess.

8:59But everybody did, it seems.

9:01If you go read that book, Bad Blood, it's one of the best books that's

9:04been written in a long time.

9:05But remember, Boies is like the bad guy who shows up in the Wall Street

9:08Journal's offices and is like, everything Theranos did is on the up and up.

9:12We're going to go after you.

9:14So I'm just saying, Clay.

9:15To be fair. To be fair.

9:16You're being very nice about this guy.

9:17That's a pretty sketchy deal.

9:19I would want the most zealous advocate possible, and I think that's what he sees

9:23his role as. This is Lawyer Clay.

9:25This is Lawyer Clay. Look.

9:27You could represent the head of the mob, and Clay's like, hey, everybody needs counsel.

9:31Hey. Everybody needs, hey. In fact, there's news that's just gone out.

9:36I put my money where my mouth is.

9:38Because Laura and I have made a big donation to Vanderbilt Law School that is

9:43predicated on the idea that every different perspective, because a lot of conservative perspectives are

9:49ridiculed in the law right now, should be taught in law school.

9:53And that lots of people who are military should have the ability, when they finish

9:59their service, to go get a law degree.

10:01So we're putting our money where our mouth is on this so that we have

10:05zealous advocacy. So putting aside that argument, here's something I think that is interesting that

10:10is starting to be floated as well.

10:12The idea that little Mo, that is the son of obviously the Ayatollah who was

10:19killed, that actually we are negotiating with different elements of Iran that are more moderate.

10:27I'm curious if you would buy this, and inside of Iran, they are using this

10:32guy who may not even be able to speak based on the significant injuries that

10:36have occurred to him. And Hegseth laid out, they didn't put a video, they didn't

10:39even have audio of his statement that they released yesterday, that they are using him

10:46as a figurehead to make it seem like the revolutionary elements of Iran.

10:52Hegseth laid out, that's the foundation for Iran, that's the foundation for Iran, that's the

10:52foundation for Iran. Thank you.

10:52are still in a position of strength, but that in reality there are back -channel

10:57negotiations going on and we might be setting up some form of relationship there.

11:03Do you buy it? Does CIA analyst Buck buy this guy's son being the figurehead

11:08who's incapable of communication and very few people know it, and there are other individuals

11:13who now have risen to power that are interacting with the U .S.?

11:16That is one theory that is out there.

11:19I hope that's true. I would bet a large sum of money that that ends

11:22up not being the case.

11:23I think, unfortunately, we've done everything that can be done from the sky, and there's

11:28a hard red line on boots on the ground, and I think it's the right

11:32red line, to be clear.

11:33I agree with that red line, and there's a limit to what you can do

11:37from the air. And the Iranians have no—now, they got sucker -punched a bit on

11:42this. They were not, obviously, putting all their leadership together.

11:46They didn't expect that we would hit them when we did.

11:48They didn't expect to get hit in daylight.

11:50They didn't expect all of this.

11:52So that was pretty incredible, and they didn't know that we knew so much about

11:56where they would be. That all said, though, these are the limitations of what you

12:02can do when you don't control the ground, and we don't control the ground.

12:06And the IRGC is still the security apparatus in that country, and nobody wants to

12:13be the first one to poke their head out their door and be like, you

12:15know, maybe we could do something different here because your head's not going to stay

12:18on your shoulders. That's the concern.

12:19The other suggestion that I have seen is that we should take the island with

12:25boots on the ground, Delta Force style, where they actually produce all the oil and

12:30just take control of their ability to produce oil because this is kind of crazy.

12:35Iran is continuing to produce oil and producing.

12:39You're talking about grabbing Karg Island?

12:41I mean, that's some pretty next -level stuff.

12:43I was doing all my reading, Buck.

12:45I was trying to prepare myself.

12:47Like, what are the different angles?

12:48You're going deep onto this one.

12:50Well, I'm fascinated by it.

12:51I don't have the background of knowledge that you do, so I'm trying to read

12:55as much as I can.

12:56And there's an idea out there that Israeli and U .S.

13:00special forces could seize the island of oil production and basically end any ability of

13:06Iran to have control over the ingress or egress of oil, not dissimilar in some

13:14ways to what we did with Venezuela, but just take control of this island and

13:18say, hey, we now are the captain of the Iranian oil ship and we determine

13:24everything. Because it's kind of crazy to me, Buck.

13:27I didn't realize Iran has continued to refine and be shipping oil even as we

13:33have been attacking them. I think that would surprise a lot of people.

13:36I mean, Karg Island is essentially where all of the processing of oil.

13:43Remember, you'll hear these things, and I know that some of you listening to this

13:46are like, I've been an oil man for 40 years, Buck.

13:48You know a lot more than me.

13:49Sorry, I'm just assuming the oil men are in Texas.

13:52Pardon me. But I know there's other places.

13:55But there's some of you that know this stuff backwards and forwards.

13:57But when you hear things like heavy crude and sweet crude and all this different

14:00stuff, it has to be refined for it to be usable in the marketplace, right?

14:05It's not just like it pumps out of the ground and it goes right into

14:07a car, and 90 % of Iranian oil is processed at Karg Island.

14:15And you're talking about almost a billion barrels of oil a year there, right?

14:19So you don't have to stop the oil from being pumped out of the ground,

14:23nor do you have to touch the oil infrastructure that does that, which would be

14:26a very, very bad idea, to have essentially a total choke point for Iranian oil

14:32exports because if they can't refine it, they ain't selling it.

14:36This is why. At least not the same way.

14:38100%. And this is why I think, in addition to not wanting to give away

14:41strategic operational goals, this is why boots on the ground doesn't necessarily mean tens of

14:48thousands of troops. It could mean, not only on this Karg Island, but also on

14:53some of the nuclear mountainous terrain that you might have to go into, it could

14:59mean elite commando -style raids with boots on the ground that is very different than

15:04what we saw, for instance, in Iraq.

16:31we get into all the policy and all the seriousness it seems that you sir

16:36are sporting a clay travis style beard and i just want to say that the

16:42people of america have spoken they are they are fans of your salt and pepper

16:47beard i i'm a slightly different generation than you and clay so my beard doesn't

16:52quite have the gravitas of all that silver quite yet but i think it looks

16:56very distinguished on you and clay and uh so i'm a proponent okay so i

17:02got to tell you the story um and it's got a good ending so it's

17:07totally accidental we were away for thanksgiving last november and i was just lazy and

17:13i didn't shave and the first day back i had some really early tv hit

17:16like fox and friends or something and i i i thought i just didn't have

17:20the time or the energy to shave as i went on assuming i'd get all

17:24this feedback saying you're so scruffy why didn't you clean up quite the opposite a

17:29bunch of nice messages about the beard which really wasn't a beard at that point

17:34um i thought i'd try it out on the road in california i took a

17:38poll at every event that i did overwhelmingly positive and here and then there are

17:43two moments that i thought i gotta stick with this number one i did don

17:51on with on the zoom and the first thing he said was hey man love

17:55the maga beard so i don't know is that a thing the maga beard and

17:59then here's the one that i think you'll enjoy i just got a text from

18:02um a good friend of mine who's supporting me a legend james woods the legendary

18:08james woods texted me last week and said uh this is it it gives you

18:12exactly the right amount of gravitas i really think you can win this now so

18:25play for you we support it um but now let's get into this because we've

18:29talked about the governor thing we're going to talk to you about that more you

18:31got to tell us what's going on here with the most recent fraud revelations in

18:37your state obviously all the democrats in charge obviously newsom asleep at the wheel or

18:41probably you know doesn't even care about the fraud hospices what do we know about

18:45the hospice fraud well the first thing to bear in mind this is not neglect

18:51or incompetence this is corruption because the reason that all this fraud has gone on

18:57in california and our estimate so remember just to take a few steps back i

19:01set up um last year um in the wake of the minnesota revelations um a

19:06whistleblower line here in california called califraud .com we've had thousands of tips coming in

19:11and then earlier this year we set up caldoge which is now up and running

19:15obviously we're not elected yet so it's not an official thing but we've got many

19:20volunteers going through the books finding the fraud and we're publishing these fraud reports and

19:25one of the main areas that we got tips for was in this medical space

19:29because it's just huge amounts of money and it's and the reason it's corrupt is

19:33if you look at the donations to democrat politicians in california and you look at

19:38the categories number and gavin newsom is a useful proxy he's to be running statewide

19:43in california for 16 years the number one category of his donors um government unions

19:49number two trial lawyers number three private sector unions number four healthcare healthcare they don't

19:55they're making money off of this and they are and and gavin newsom is the

19:59puppet of these people who are doing the fraud and that's why this goes on

20:03it's not neglect it's not incompetence it's corruption and the scale of it is just

20:08unbelievable and the brazen shameless theft of our money um to put in the pockets

20:14of these scammers that then give money donations to gavin newsom and the other democrats

20:18it's just unbelievable but the good news is we're now and it's not just us

20:22you had various people now really investigating it you've got the federal action jd leading

20:26that it's really going to come to an end especially when i'm elected in november

20:31and and we're going to just stop all this in its tracks last point i'd

20:34make is i'm putting together a slate a team of candidates running with me statewide

20:38in california that's never been done before in the governor's race a very important position

20:42is the state controller and the state controller has the power to audit every organization

20:46receiving state money and to turn off the supply of money literally to stop the

20:51money flowing and there's a fantastic guy called herb morgan running with me we're working

20:56very closely together if you know we can really change this big time if we're

21:01elected this year okay last hour i saw that this moron eric swalwell is right

21:11now potentially going to be favored as the democrat i don't know what i'll have

21:16to do uh if you were running against alex eric swalwell but there has to

21:21be 40 iq points at least that separates you from eric swalwell um i want

21:26to put out the call up and down width and breadth of california right now

21:31the election is when when can people start voting for you and i think again

21:37a lot of people don't understand this california has i think it's called a jungle

21:40primary right we're the top two regardless of party advance so explain all the rules

21:46tell people how to vote what did They need to know because we are getting

21:49close to ballots being headed out.

21:53Exactly right, Clay. Thank you.

21:54Listen, this top two system is ridiculous.

21:56Obviously, we should get rid of it, but we got it.

21:59And so we got to play by these rules.

22:00For the last year or so, you've seen a kind of clown car situation on

22:04the Democrat side, nine or 10 candidates, none, all of them incredibly unimpressive machine politicians

22:11and hacks and ridiculous people.

22:13And they've been dividing up the vote.

22:15And as a result of that, in a lot of these polls I've been leading,

22:18and there's one other Republican who we'll get to in a second.

22:21Often we've been that we've been the top two.

22:23But I said all along, it's not going to stay that way because the Democrat

22:26machine is going to get behind one of their candidates.

22:30The unions, in particular, the government unions, they will want their puppet that they control.

22:35And that is what is happening right now.

22:37And that's why you're seeing Eric Swalwell move up and up.

22:40And I think that that will continue.

22:42The big unions are going to be endorsing in the next few weeks, the teachers,

22:45the SEIU, the Nancy Pelosi machine is going to get behind him, I think.

22:50And so I think you're going to see him really advanced.

22:52Now, right now, as of this morning, the real clear politics average of all the

22:57polls in California, there's a bunch of these Democrats below 7 percent.

23:01You've got Katie Porter at 10 percent.

23:03You've got Tom Steyer and the other Republican, Chad Bianco, 11 percent.

23:07Eric Swalwell at 13. And I'm on 15 and a half.

23:11So that's the good news.

23:12On the average, I'm still ahead.

23:13But you're right. There was a poll this week, first time that showed Eric Swalwell

23:18in the lead, a real poll.

23:19It was a proper serious poll.

23:20And so we've got to take this seriously.

23:22The election is June the 2nd.

23:24Ballots go out May the 2nd.

23:27We're really weeks away now from this election kicking off.

23:30The most important thing to understand is that if we split the Republican vote, it's

23:37not only that you're going to get Eric Swalwell, you're probably going to get Eric

23:41Swalwell and Tom Steyer, the billionaire climate fanatic.

23:45He has already spent 70 million dollars just in the last few weeks, a few

23:51months, and that's moving him up in the polls.

23:54And because of this top two system, you don't need a huge percentage to make

23:58it into the general election because there's so many candidates.

24:01So I can see a situation where we've got, you know, like I don't know

24:04what to even make of that.

24:06Steyer versus Swalwell. What a joke.

24:08But if you get behind one Republican candidate and I'm the leading Republican, and there's

24:13a lot of issues with the other guy, Chad Bianco, he took a knee for

24:17BLM. He says crazy things on immigration.

24:20He's basically for amnesty on immigration.

24:23You can't have him. And so this is the moment for every Republican to get

24:28serious about this, get behind the leading Republican candidate, and then I will be guaranteed

24:33to be in the top two because that's how the math will work.

24:36And then it's a whole new fight and we'll take it to whoever the Democrats

24:39put up. Speaking of Steve Hilton, he's running for governor and he's telling us all

24:43about how this race is critical but also winnable in his estimation and his math.

24:50And Stephen, to that end, I saw a lot of people are focused in on

24:54gas prices right now for obvious reasons, but your state is always the punching bag.

24:59You know it for the rest of the country of, you see how high the

25:03gas prices are there? So yes, Iran has everyone, oh my gosh, what are gas

25:08prices going to do? I think it's going to be fine, by the way, but

25:10everyone's a little freaked out.

25:12And then in California, it's, well, your gas prices, it's like there's always an oil

25:16embargo somewhere because California's gas prices are crazy.

25:19You recently said to gas execs, don't give up on the state of California.

25:25I don't even think people realize that California has an oil and gas industry.

25:29Can you speak to that a bit and what you're hoping could happen if you

25:32become governor? It's an amazing situation.

25:36Again, just the lunacy of these Democrat ideologues, these climate fanatics.

25:40Incredible. First of all, let's look at the numbers.

25:42So the temporary spike, and it's obviously temporary, everyone knows that, in the gas price

25:48since the Iran war, which is, what, about 50 cents average nationwide, right?

25:53In California, you look at the average, it's $2 higher than the rest of the

25:59country. So it's a very simple way of putting it.

26:01Gavin Newsom and the Democrats are four times as destructive as war in the Middle

26:06East for California when it comes to gas.

26:08The point about California is that we have abundant oil and gas reserves in our

26:13state, mainly in Kern County.

26:16But now a huge reserve has been discovered offshore in California.

26:21Offshore, there's a reserve there, which is considered to be the second biggest in America,

26:27the niche behind the Permian Basin.

26:29We have massive oil and gas reserves.

26:32Right now, we are importing, in California, nearly 80 % of the oil that we

26:39use. It used to be the opposite.

26:41Most of our oil and gas, we produced in -state.

26:44So what are these insane Democrats now doing?

26:46In the name of climate, they are shipping oil halfway around the world on giant

26:51supertankers spewing out carbon emissions because they think it's part of their war on fossil

26:56fuel. We're not using any less fossil fuel in California.

26:59We're just importing it. And that's the reason that the refineries are closing down because

27:05the refineries were built to refine California crude.

27:08The supply of that has been dropping year by year with their war on the

27:13industry here in California. Now the insane...

27:15... I'm just with a group of of energy industry folks this morning and now

27:20there's even the insane situation that the small amount that we're relatively that we're now

27:25producing. It used to go in pipelines from Kern County to the refineries in the

27:29Bay Area and in the L .A.

27:32One of those refineries has now one of those pipelines has now shut down because

27:36there's not enough oil to justify the business.

27:40So now what's happening? The remainder that we're producing is going on trucks.

27:44So they again in the name of climate, instead of a nice, clean pipeline, we're

27:49now trucking it. It's so insane.

27:51Now, as governor, I could reverse all of that because it's all being done through

27:55these bureaucratic agencies, CARB, the California Air Resources Board, the Energy Commission, CalGEM, the Geologic

28:01and Energy Management Agency. And it's very straightforward.

28:05As governor, I will end the war on fossil fuels.

28:07As long as we are using oil and gas in California, we're going to use

28:11California oil and gas that will keep the refineries open, bring down the cost of

28:15import. And we're going to get to three dollar gas in California.

28:17That's the first pledge I made on the campaign trail.

28:21I think this is so important and why I think, again, everybody out there listening

28:26to us right now needs to go vote for you and get you into the

28:29final two. Buck and I have talked a lot about the legacy of California.

28:35You grew up in England, but grew up in New York.

28:39I grew up in Tennessee.

28:40I remember the first time I ever got to go to California.

28:44I was 21 years old.

28:46I think I had a college roommate from California.

28:48I went to go visit and I was so excited to step foot on soil

28:52in California because of the legacy of awesomeness that we had grown up with.

28:58Buck has talked about this in New York, California, this golden shining state on a

29:02hill. It's lost. You could help to return that.

29:06But I think your experience growing up and what California meant to you still can

29:12resonate with so many Californians.

29:16I'm 100 percent clear. I love the way you put that.

29:18Look, the California dream is a real thing.

29:21You know, this and it was in my imagination, too, like even before we moved

29:25here with my wife and my sons, you know, whenever it was 2012, we moved

29:28here back in the day.

29:29I mean, people know me from Fox, obviously.

29:32But, you know, most of my career has been in business and I worked for

29:35a while in the government in the UK for David Cameron.

29:38And when I was putting together the policy plan before he became prime minister in

29:422010, one of the spectator magazine in the UK wrote a piece about me.

29:48This is like 20 odd years ago.

29:49And they said and the title of the piece was the cover story, California Dreaming.

29:55And the theme of it was Steve Hilton, David Cameron's policy guru, wants to make

29:59the use inspired by California, wants to make the UK more like California.

30:03Well, who would want to do that today?

30:05I mean, that's how far we've fallen.

30:06But the point is that that idea of California, sometimes I put it like this,

30:11California means to America what America means to the world.

30:15It represents all the great virtues and strengths and beauty of our nation.

30:21Optimism and energy and dynamism and the kind of rebel spirit and doing your own

30:26thing. That's been crushed by these years of bureaucratic, bloated, nanny state, bureaucratic government and

30:34the taxes and the spending and the bloat and the waste and the regulations, crushing

30:38the soul and spirit of California.

30:40But it won't take much to really get back to that beautiful California dream because

30:47we've just got to stop the government from doing all these insane things.

30:50And then people and entrepreneurs will take care of the rest of it.

30:55Steve, bring home the W in this governor's race and don't touch that beard.

32:20Final hour of the week.

32:24And I just teased what I think is a significant story, and I think it

32:31may be the most significant story long -term that is going on right now.

32:36And by long -term, I mean you're going to start to see it in a

32:39significant way in the 2030 census.

32:42We'll be right back. And it is going to change, I think, much of what

32:46in terms of political power exists in this country.

32:51And that is you are seeing high earners finally get fed up with left wing

32:58governance and they are fleeing California, Illinois, New York, Washington state.

33:05And I just talked about two different stories that are happening simultaneously on the left

33:11coast and the right coast of this country out on the left coast in Washington

33:16state. They are proposing and it looks like going to pass a nine point nine

33:22percent yearly income tax, state income tax on anyone who makes a million dollars or

33:29more. Simultaneously, Buck, Mom Donnie, and I believe we have an audio cut of this,

33:34is saying that he wants a 50 percent estate tax on estates of seven hundred

33:41and fifty thousand dollars or more.

33:44That's basically, Buck, anybody that owns any property at all in New York City.

33:50And you can own a seven hundred and fifty thousand dollar place in New York

33:55City and not be wealthy at all.

33:57In fact, you can struggle to even pay your bills.

34:01And some of you are going to say, how is that possible?

34:04Because of the taxes and because of cost of living.

34:06Here is Mom Donnie talking about this.

34:09Let's listen. I believe it's cut 24 amidst being in the wealthiest city in the

34:14wealthiest country in the history of the world.

34:16We already see an exodus of working in middle class New Yorkers.

34:20So I don't have a hesitation in asking those who make the most amount of

34:24money in the city or the most profits in the city to pay a little

34:26bit more. So that everyone can actually stay in the city.

34:29It's also something not just about justice or or the ability for working class people

34:34to live here. It is also actually about ensuring that corporations can continue to attract

34:39the top talent to the city.

34:41OK, this is it is.

34:45Let me take a step back when you look at the actual because I'm fired

34:49up about this, Buck. And so I want to I want to be crystal clear

34:51on this. The data reflects that whenever you put these taxes in place, you do

34:57not get the money that you expect you're going to get because those who can

35:01avoid paying the tax and leave or find super impressive accounting to avoid paying the

35:08tax do. And so you actually end up netting less in tax because you were

35:15driving away the biggest income taxpayers.

35:18And, Buck, I see it in my neighborhood.

35:21We have moved. We have a couple of neighbors.

35:23My builder said, hey, a couple of your neighbors now are New York guys.

35:28They were just fed up with taxes.

35:30They realized during covid, hey, we can run our businesses as well from other states

35:37as we can here. Buck, in your neighborhood, there's guys coming in like crazy with

35:42big with big wealth that are just saying, hey, whether it's Mark Zuckerberg, whether it's

35:48Peter Thiel, whether it's Howard Schultz, we could go through a whole list of people

35:53that have just said, I'm done with California.

35:55I'm done with New York.

35:56I'm done with Illinois. I'm done with Washington.

35:58I'm done with these high tax locales.

36:00And some of you out there are saying, oh, I'm so nervous.

36:03These people are like locusts.

36:04What I can tell you is they're actually making the red redder.

36:08Go look at the voter rolls in Florida.

36:11Go look at the outcome in Tennessee and Texas.

36:14We are gaining a lot of super impressive, talented people.

36:19Elon Musk in Texas. Starbucks, of all places, just announced they're going to hire thousands

36:24of new people in Tennessee.

36:26Oracle is relocating to Nashville.

36:29And the people that are, by and large, moving into these communities and red states

36:34are actually making them redder.

36:36And, Buck, this is going to be transformative on so many different levels because what

36:41it's going to do is it's going to make the low tax states have way

36:44better services. And the people that are left behind in New York and California and

36:49Illinois and Washington are going to keep getting taxed at higher rates.

36:53The tax base is going to be leaving and the resources and tax base is

36:58just going to continue to diminish.

36:59I think this is a huge story.

37:00Again, there's two different kinds of billionaires in my mind who end up leaving New

37:09York, California, Washington State. And there's a concentration of billionaires in those places, right?

37:18You have Silicon Valley in California.

37:20You have the Microsoft slash Starbucks, you know, tech and everything else going on in

37:28Seattle. And so you have billionaires there, too, and obviously a lot of billionaires in

37:33New York. But the ultra -rich who moved to Florida, who have always supported the

37:41insane Democrat policies and always said things like, I think we should pay more taxes

37:48and I think we should have bigger government and blah, blah, blah, all that stuff.

37:54They really tick me off.

37:57And there's a difference. You know, you have the Elon Musks and people like him.

38:02And Peter Thiel has been helping the right and been on the right for a

38:08long time. So he's not like new to the game.

38:10But you have Peter Thiel, you have Elon Musk, you have people who have come

38:16forward and said, the Democrat approach to governance fails, I don't want my companies to

38:24be subjected to this idiocy anymore, I'm going to Texas, I'm going to Florida, and

38:30that's great, because they are telling everybody what the reality is, and they are therefore

38:36a part of the solution.

38:38The challenge that I see here is people like Schultz, because he's been so left

38:45-wing and lib for so long, the Starbucks CEO, he's going to come on down

38:49to Florida, he's going to buy some $50 million waterfront place and the whole thing,

38:53and he's going to be writing checks to Democrats, and he's going to be pushing

38:58the same nonsense, and you just, you know, what does it take for these people

39:02to realize, by the way, imagine this, Clay, if you had to move your company,

39:06and you started off in Tennessee, so you've been good to go the whole time,

39:09less than you, right, yeah, imagine if you had to move your company from a

39:13state after it had been there for decades, because your people are taxed too much,

39:19the crime is too high, there's crazy homeless people attacking them on public transit, et

39:24cetera, et cetera, wouldn't you want to say something about that publicly when you were

39:28moving to Tennessee or Florida, you know, wouldn't you want to come out and just,

39:32like, have at it a little bit, no, they're just going to be like, yeah,

39:36you know, we're just keeping residences in multiple states, and Schultz is going to be

39:40a Florida resident for tax purposes, I can assure you.

39:43I will say what you're saying, first of all, of course I would run my

39:47mouth, I mean, I don't, you would, I meant anyone would, but I will say

39:52to her credit, the In -N -Out owner of the burger franchise, she relocated to

39:59basically my neighborhood, and she teed off on California.

40:03Well, she's right, but she's the same person, she's a little bit, she's a reasonable

40:07human being, right, she's known as that.

40:10I agree with you, this is what gets me so angry, if you have FU

40:13money, and you aren't, what are you afraid of?

40:17Well, this is, if you left California for Austin, and you still think that you

40:21should do California stuff in Austin, while surrounded by the rest of Texas, you are

40:27an imbecile, and you're ruining the community you have moved to.

40:30This is where I think Elon has actually created a lot of space, because there

40:36are many people that agree with everything that we say inside of companies that have

40:43gone woke, and every now and then they'll come up to me, and they'll whisper,

40:46they'll be like, hey, I work at Insert Company here, and I can't tell you,

40:51you know, how many people inside of this company will sometimes share tweets or segments

40:57from your show, like we have like a secret, you know, text chain and everybody.

41:02I get why guys that are trying to make a living, guys and gals out

41:06there, that, you know, you've got a mid -tier job, and you've got to pay

41:09tuition, and you've got to pay mortgage, and all those things, the people that really

41:13infuriate me are the ones who could, nobody could ever do anything to, right?

41:18If you have $25 million in America today, the odds of anybody being able to

41:24do anything to you or your family that ever would impact, and I'm being generous

41:28at 25. That's a lot.

41:30That's a lot. That's a lot.

41:31Yeah. Okay. Yeah. It's less than that.

41:32I'm saying, like, they're some of the biggest cowards on the planet are super rich

41:36guys, because they're afraid, oh, am I going to be able to sit on this

41:40charity benefit if I say what I really think?

41:42As you say, when you're super rich, what do you still want?

41:45You want the approval of your peer group.

41:48Not everybody, but this is what ends up happening.

41:50You want people to think well of you who also have beachfront homes in the

41:56Hamptons and Nantucket and live in Bel Air and live in Malibu and live in

42:02Calorama in a mansion in D .C.

42:04Like, you want them to like you, because everything else you already have.

42:09You're surrounded by people who kiss your butt all the time because you're paying all

42:12their bills and they need you.

42:14So what you want are the other people.

42:16You want the other rich guys and gals to say, oh, you're doing great stuff.

42:21Oh, you're invited. You're invited to the garden party.

42:24That's what this is. Real human psychology.

42:26This is why these this is why you have like Alex Soros running around the

42:29ultimate Nepo baby who is just like a pyromaniac lighting civilization on fire everywhere he

42:36can. Again, this is maybe where I'm a little bit I don't know.

42:41There's something in my personal like I don't care.

42:44I genuinely don't care. I'm going to tell you exactly what I play.

42:47You are. You are an unusual duck.

42:50Just so you know, not everyone is as throw down as you are, but I

42:55don't I don't get it.

42:56I don't want people to be dishonest and not say what they really think.

42:59If you think that I'm a moron, go ahead and let me have it.

43:02But it doesn't mean that I can't have a beer with you and the idea

43:05that I can't sit on some board.

43:08Thank you. The last thing I want to be doing is is sitting on a

43:11board with awful people. I don't like meetings, period.

43:14So don't even get me started on having to go to meetings for things that

43:17I that I wouldn't even want to be at.

43:19But and so I just I wish that there was more steel spine, because to

43:24your point, if you are relocating across the whole country because the state has made

43:30awful decisions, I think you have an obligation to tee off on the state government

43:35that you are leaving and say, I'm leaving.

43:38because you guys have done such an awful job and there are going to be

43:42a lot of job creators and a lot of wealth that follows me and actually

43:47tell the story and don't try to hide when you just relocate to Florida, Texas

43:51or Tennessee. I got to tell you, and there was a little bit of this

43:54even when I moved down here, people in Florida who were like, you know, don't

43:57bring those New York, you know, don't bring those New York voting patterns down here.

44:02As a Tennessee and this is something people are concerned about.

44:05But hold on. All that concern is now the Northeasterners who have moved to Florida,

44:10you know, during COVID and after, we're like the elves who show up in Helm's

44:15Deep in the Lord of the Rings, my friends, okay?

44:18We are the right wing of the Northeast.

44:21And we have flipped. Yeah, we have flipped Florida redder than it has ever been.

44:26We are reinforcements. We are the cavalry.

44:29We are not undermining you.

44:30What I understand from my Texas friends, I'm sure someone that could call in and

44:33tell us this. Now, Texas for a long time because of the tax and business

44:37climate there relative to some of the West Coast states, particularly California, they've been getting

44:43fancy Californians who show up and they're making Austin bluer and bluer basically and creating

44:53and is also true in some of the other cities, I think as well, certainly

44:55in Dallas. And that is a different phenomenon because the people that have flushed and

45:00the numbers speak for this.

45:01It's 1 .2 million more Republicans in Florida now registered because of the migration from

45:07mostly the Northeast, but some other parts of the country too.

45:10You're welcome, Florida. We are here.

45:11By the way, this is where I get concerned.

45:15Blue, those people who are left behind the red state, normal thinking refugees, Staten Island,

45:22listening to us right now in WOR, a lot of Long Island, much of Westchester

45:27now where people are still sane and, you know, certain pockets of Manhattan proper, they're

45:34going to get drowned in even more blue craziness because Buck, what should happen is

45:40people should look around and say, these are really bad ideas that we are enabling

45:46with the election of people like Mom Donnie, Brandon Johnson in Chicago.

45:52Instead, they're going to double, triple and quadruple down on crazy, which is going to

45:58continue to drive away even more people.

46:01And I think what's going to happen is quality of life in places like Texas,

46:06Tennessee and Florida is going to skyrocket even more than it is now in a

46:10favorable direction because the revenue is going to be better.

46:13The services are going to be better.

46:15The safety is going to be better.

46:17Your kids' schools are going to be better.

46:19I'm talking about public schools and all of that's going to be moving in the

46:22opposite direction in all of these blue places.

46:25And I think we're going to see a fundamental realignment of power as a result

46:29because as money moves into these new states and they have less regulation and lower

46:34taxes, everything's going to get better.

46:36And as money moves out of New York and Illinois and California and Washington, all

46:41these places, everything's going to get worse.

46:43And we're going to see a fundamental realignment.

46:46I saw, I think it was Peter Thiel said, Miami is going to replace New

46:49York City as the financial capital of the United States.

46:52I think that this is going to happen faster than people realize.

46:54I think within 10 years that may be true.

46:56I think that actually is happening.

49:05Unexpected. rediscovers purpose, family, and belief through coaching a ragtag football team at a Catholic

49:12school, wrote, directed, and stars in it, face -based film, also a comedy.

49:18Daniel, what was it like playing a football coach?

49:22Is this an all -time dream job?

49:24And tell us about the movie.

49:26That's a great question. You know, I hate to say it, but playing a mortician

49:32in Getting Grace was maybe the dream job.

49:35That's the job I thought I'd have if I wasn't an actor.

49:39I swear that's true. Yeah.

49:42I played football up until eighth grade and was scouted for high school, like, you

49:48know, because scouted means, hey, you're tall, you're big, you're wide -shouldered, you're stupid enough

49:53to get hit by guys bigger than you, come play football.

49:57I wasn't like I was some great player.

49:59But I found the theater.

50:01I did my first play between eighth grade and high school.

50:07And I thought, you know, being in the locker room with girls is a lot

50:10better than being in the locker room with boys, a dressing room with girls.

50:14So I never made it to football.

50:16But playing the football coach was great because I did have a great coach.

50:21And I've got a wife who's a bit of a tomboy.

50:24So when I was confused by some of the terminology that I didn't remember, she

50:29was always there to help me with it.

50:31That's terrible. Daniel, we want to talk to you about the Hail Mary, but I

50:37have to ask you because I'm a huge The Fugitive fan.

50:40I know you're in The Fugitive.

50:41I actually remember your character well in The Fugitive.

50:43My wife had never seen it, and I watched it with her maybe six months

50:47ago. So I got to kind of relive that again.

50:49How does it hold up?

50:51Can I ask him a question?

50:52I'm curious for you for watching it.

50:54I was going to ask you when you're doing it.

50:57I mean, it holds up incredibly well, in my opinion.

50:59But when you're doing it, were you aware that you were making one of the

51:03great, like, as you were filming that movie with Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford,

51:07were you aware that this was going to be, in my opinion, one of the

51:11certainly 10 best thrillers of the 90s?

51:13I mean, it's a phenomenal movie.

51:15Thank you for asking that.

51:17I want to begin by saying for a brief second, Buck, I thought about naming

51:21my son Buck Roebuck because there was something about the redundancy that I liked.

51:27I'm going to tell you, Buck is hard enough as a name, so Buck Roebuck

51:30would be really an uphill climb.

51:32But nonetheless, keep going. I named him Buster, and he's so earned that name.

51:39He's the football player of the family.

51:42Listen, when we made The Fugitive, I'm not kidding.

51:45I heard Harrison Ford say, ugh, this is going to be my Hudson Hawk.

51:50Buck, we had no idea.

51:53He thought it was going to be awful.

51:56Yeah, you guys, we, because they kept refixing the plot and changing it, rewriting it.

52:04All the dialogue we said, you guys know that, all that stuff between the marshals

52:09was improvised, then memorialized, then we shot it.

52:14So none of that dialogue was in the movie, except for, actually, Buck, where I

52:18say, this is hinky. Why would he come in here?

52:22It's the only line I said that was in the script.

52:24I've used that word before because of your line in that movie.

52:26I've been like, that's hinky.

52:27That's a great line. It's hinky.

52:30So we didn't know. But, you know, I'm like you, and I think it's interesting.

52:35It's the one thing I miss now about how you could turn a TV on,

52:39you know, you get done mowing the lawn or whatever you're doing.

52:42You're like, I'm just going to take an hour for myself.

52:45And you turn the TV on and the sting would be on or the great

52:47escape or Jaws. And you could watch it at any point in the story because

52:52you love the story. And you knew the story, and it was like a familiar

52:57thing. I am honored that The Fugitive is one of those movies.

53:01And I agree. It is.

53:02It's kind of a timeless, really great, fast -paced movie.

53:07It was a movie that when my wife Daniel said she hadn't seen it, I

53:11was like, top of the list.

53:12We're watching The Fugitive next time we have a, you know, husband -wife movie night

53:16when the baby's asleep early enough.

53:17And she thought it was excellent, too, of course.

53:20I mean, I think it's, for a thriller, it's a 10 out of 10.

53:22And it's totally what you said, totally watchable at any point.

53:24But that is fascinating to me that, because I've heard the other thing.

53:27I've heard actors making a movie, like apparently the guys when they were doing Ghostbusters,

53:32for example. I know a very different movie.

53:34But as soon as they wrapped, they were like, this is going to be amazing.

53:37Like, they kind of knew.

53:38And it's amazing to hear that you didn't know The Fugitive until maybe you got

53:42really close to the end was going to be such a great film.

53:45It tells you a lot about how the movie process goes.

53:48Well, the zeitgeist, like those guys at Ghostbusters, they were more of a cohesive unit.

53:54They had been working together over time because of Caddyshack and everything else.

53:59And they knew, you know, they knew what it was.

54:02Can I, did I know we should be plugging, and you guys are so, you've

54:07blessed me so much. No, no, tell us about that.

54:09Tell us about your movie.

54:10I'm sorry to get you.

54:12Go ahead. No, no, no.

54:13I want to tell you, I'm going to, I'm going to divert again.

54:15You know what I just watched for two nights in a row?

54:18The Lonesome Dove. Have you guys seen that?

54:21It's amazing. Dude, it's my boy Tommy Lee Jones.

54:27My God. Robert Duvall, of course, because Mr.

54:31Duvall passed. What, what. What a.

54:34Eight hours of brilliant perfection.

54:41Brilliant perfection. It's on Amazon Prime.

54:43Although I watched the first four hours on my old DVD, and I thought, they've

54:49got to have restored this.

54:51I'm sure it looks better.

54:52Anyway. Now talking about great movies, the Hail Mary, that's the movie that's out now.

54:58That's the movie that's doing great numbers.

55:00Tell us about it. Well, so the Hail Mary was born.

55:04I have great parents. But the nuns, our nuns, the Sisters of St.

55:11Joseph of Philadelphia, who had me for 12 years of Catholic school, really did have

55:17an impact on guiding my moral and ethical compass and my spiritual compass, obviously.

55:27And I just kind of wanted to say thank you to them in some way.

55:32And this movie was born out of that.

55:37You know, the Hail Mary of the title isn't about the last play of the

55:40game, but the last play of the game is quite great.

55:44But the Hail Mary of the title is the guy I play.

55:49And I'm working opposite an amazing actress named Marsha Dietlein, who has starred in a

55:55couple of my movies. She's spectacular as Sister Kathleen, who is named after a nun

56:03who taught me in first grade, who changed my life.

56:08That's awesome. By the way, everybody go see this movie.

56:11I want to go back to your history because The Fugitive is great, but we're

56:16talking to Daniel Roebuck. The movie is the Hail Mary.

56:18You also were in two television shows that I really loved, Lost and The Man

56:25in the High Castle. What is the difference in your experience between being on a

56:30movie and being on a highly successful television show?

56:35As an actor, what is the experience like?

56:38How is it different for those two?

56:40Well, you know what's great about it is you get the script every week and

56:44you don't know where you'll be in the story.

56:48In a movie, you've got, you know, a hundred, a hundred, five -page script and

56:52you know exactly where you are.

56:54In a TV show, and now there was, because those shows were sequential in how

57:02it was all one story, I also did Matlock for three years in which every

57:06week was a different story and different people.

57:11I love them both. The blessing God's given me, you guys, is that like from

57:20River's Edge to The Fugitive to The Late Shift to Lost to The Man in

57:27the High Castle and now even Terrifier, I have had the ability to kind of

57:32land into that story that everyone's talking about in a moment of time, which is,

57:40you know, hard to do for an actor to land in any story consistently.

57:46But yeah, they're different. And the other thing is it's a different director almost every

57:52week or, you know, they rotate five through.

57:57But you get a different director and it's fun.

58:00And Lost, by the way, Lost was one of those shows where sometimes we would

58:06shoot two episodes on the same day.

58:09So there was, you'd say, who, what, what's going on in this one?

58:12What did I just come from in that one?

58:15You know, but the experience is, look, it's all great.

58:19I'm a kid. I'm 63.

58:22When Star Wars came out, I was 13 and I ended up in Star Wars.

58:27I've got a great character I play in these video games and worked with Harrison

58:31Ford. And when I was 12, I was a vampire clown in a circus.

58:35And I ended up becoming Grandpa Munster, a funny vampire.

58:39So I have been consistently blessed.

58:42And all of it has led me to this moment in time where I make

58:46these faith -based movies. Because you guys, look, we see the world in a similar

58:52way because I, you know, I pay attention to you.

58:55Um, we're, we're, our, our culture is, is fast slipping down into a vast nothingness

59:05because everything given us, they call it entertainment.

59:10It's just like they call it news.

59:11It's all the same with a dip, with one point of view.

59:15So how could it be entertaining if, if you know how it's going to end,

59:19who's going to be in it, all that other stuff.

59:21We're talking to Daniel Roebuck.

59:23Buck, I want to give you an opportunity to speak out on this too, as

59:26we finish the interview. I want everybody to go see the Hail Mary, Daniel Roebuck's

59:29book, Daniel Roebuck's movie. So I've told Buck, I did, I've done daily television a

59:37ton in LA, sports -based.

59:39And the amount of time that guys who work on those shows build sets, carry

59:44the cameras around, during breaks will come up and give me a fist pound and

59:49say, dude, you're saying everything that I wish I could say.

59:52I think a lot of people listening to us have this idea that Hollywood is

59:56a monolith and that everybody hates what many of the people listening to this right

1:00:01now. How? How? How? uh would believe i found that not to be true particularly

1:00:05the number of guys and gals who work and do the actual grunt work of

1:00:10making movies and television i bet you have too maybe you could tell people out

1:00:15there don't always paint with a huge broad brush when it comes to the people

1:00:19who make many of these movies and actually do the physical jobs yeah the crew

1:00:24you are clay you're right the crew is generally thinking more in the spectrum that

1:00:33i think we think um but the people running it uh you know uh are

1:00:42not you know they make a lot of movies about how horrible the blacklist is

1:00:46but believe me if they you know they they wouldn't blacklist you in a second

1:00:52um i try to stay and i'll be honest with you this is the maybe

1:00:56the most that i've leaned even in the conversation because i'm i don't really give

1:01:02uh uh a flying egg what robert de niro thinks about anything let alone politics

1:01:12i you know being being uh the you know billy ellish all these people one

1:01:18after another they're they're millionaires who have no sense of the common life that common

1:01:24man live but you're talking about the hard -working crew that's the common man by

1:01:29the way that's me i'm a working class guy when you're a character actor you

1:01:33know i don't have the i don't have the platform to be a star my

1:01:39platform is to support the star but i made a good living standing next to

1:01:44andy griffith and kathy bates and you know don johnson and they put the new

1:01:50name into art the clown you know what i mean um but uh i i

1:01:56think you know people going to see like our movie the hill mary it's it's

1:02:00on angel studios now we just premiered there it'll be running on um if you

1:02:06can't find it in the theater now soon it'll be on amazon prime apple tv

1:02:12all those but um look the only way we can get hollywood to change is

1:02:18we can we got to keep making these smaller movies we got to show them

1:02:22that there's success in it um get people into the movies the only way you're

1:02:27going to change it is if someone sees that huh i can maybe make money

1:02:31from that i make the movies through like the hail mary's made through a not

1:02:35-for -profit called a channel of peace people could go to a channel of peace

1:02:45up to this point i haven't i don't know that i can hold on to
