2:27Hour number two, Clay Travis, Buck Sexton Show.

2:30We are continuing to track the absolute latest in Iran.

2:35As President Trump told Maria Bartiromo in an interview that he feels like everything is

2:41winding down, the markets seem to believe that is likely true as record highs have

2:48hit today in the stock market.

2:51That is, never before in the history of your 401ks have they been more valuable

2:56than they are at this exact moment.

3:20We've got a bunch of people who want to weigh in on a variety of

3:22stories. Bartiromo, as we talked about earlier in the program, had a conversation with President

3:29Trump, and for the first time that I have seen Trump address it, there was

3:32the possibility of a Supreme Court vacancy raised.

3:35Remember, on Polymarket right now, there is an expectation that Alito will step down.

3:42If that were to happen, President Trump would have the ability to appoint a replacement.

3:47We talked about some of that.

3:49800 -282 -2882. Do you want to, just for a minute here, on the Iran

3:53thing, we've been talking about it a lot lately, but I would just point out,

3:56Clay, you have now the straight, we went from there's a blockade, I think that

4:07was yesterday, to now the straight is open and the war is almost over, but

4:16we don't have an agreement on the end of the negotiations, but we're not blockading

4:21the straight anymore. I think we are blockading the straight, but controlling ingress and egress,

4:30meaning we're not allowing Iran to send from Iranian ports ships in and out, but

4:37we are allowing ships that are not coming from Iran to traverse the straight.

4:43That's my understanding of exactly.

4:46Trump declared the Strait of Hormuz permanently open just hours after imposing Iran blockade, as

4:53China intervenes, they want me to do it, U .S.

4:57blockade of Iranian port fully implemented, Trump very close, that was yesterday.

5:03So, if China intervened, wouldn't that be so they could get Iran's oil?

5:08This is a good question.

5:10My understanding is that the blockade is still in effect, and we are not allowing

5:18Iranian ships in or out if they are intending to go to Iran.

5:25This is a good question.

5:25in ports but that ships that are not starting or concluding their trip in iran

5:31are being allowed to move in and out i think that is the latest so

5:36here well this i'm giving you the truth social so you tell me what this

5:40means china is very happy that i am permanently opening the strait of hormuz i

5:45am doing it for them also and the world this situation will never happen again

5:50they have agreed not to send weapons to iran president xi will give me a

5:55big fat hug when i get there in a few weeks we are working together

5:59smartly and very well doesn't that beat fighting but remember we are very good at

6:04fighting if we have to far better than anyone else president donald j trump i

6:07i so again i could be off here but china wants iranian oil they rely

6:13on it more than anybody yes if we're doing it for china i assume that

6:17means we're letting iran sell oil back to china again right or no i don't

6:23think so but i understand i understand this is changing like hour by hour so

6:30it's not i mean this you know the reading this morning may have changed over

6:33the course of the show there is right now a live uh uh white house

6:40briefing the headline is soon white house briefs as u .s blockades iran's ports is

6:47the headline right now on fox news so i think what president trump is saying

6:52is and again this is me trying to understand is that the strait of hormuz

6:57is open as china has requested but we are not allowing iranian oil out but

7:04we are allowing oil that is originating elsewhere out of the uh straight of hormuz

7:10right now that's my that's my understanding so we haven't that that's an important distinction

7:15so so trump because if we've said you know what we're just opening it totally

7:19for everybody and this whole thing i mean what are we doing so okay correct

7:24i think it is wide open sorry i'm choking on my smoothie here um i

7:29think it is wide open for all countries but iran is what the president was

7:35trying to say in that statement and china is happy because there was a thought

7:40that the strait of hormuz blockade was not going to allow any ships out and

7:45we are economically uh curtailing iran's ability to sell its oil uh right now i

7:52think that is the latest um and right now we will have we'll i hopefully

7:56we'll get a specific uh statement from that on the white house press okay iran

8:00did the new york times as of an hour ago says iran links ships slower

8:03stop as u .s blockade is fully implemented so now we are we're opening the

8:08strait entirely so this is this is this is where so so she she asked

8:13us to open the strait but the strait's not really open this is why it's

8:17a little confusing it's not entirely open the strait is partially open it's open for

8:21everybody except for iran which does affect global just to be clear it's not like

8:27oh take a small violin out for iran i don't but the issue is global

8:33supply i mean there's still an effect here because iranian oil is now blocked from

8:37the market so that's what i actually have a i have some data points on

8:41this that i thought were interesting because i was doing my research um a couple

8:46of things here uh the united states and this is getting nerdy but i'll i'll

8:51hit you with some nerd uh nerd details um the united states was producing this

8:57is according to or open source intel united states was producing 13 .6 million barrels

9:03per day in 2025 about 16 percent of the global oil supply and it was

9:11exporting roughly 4 million barrels per day of crude right we talk about we're a

9:17net exporter we produce more than we need when iran shut down the strait of

9:22hormuz april exports of oil and gas jumped to 4 .9 million barrels per day

9:28may is currently tracking to potentially be 5 .2 million which would be an all

9:35-time record of oil and gas exported from the united states and this says 28

9:41super tankers booked for may normally it's around five asian buyers that once depended on

9:48hormuz are now turning to u .s supply um and so and this is the

9:54argument that i made the other day the straight of hormuz being blocked has actually

9:59created the biggest payday for u .s oil that has ever existed so the math

10:05on this and then here's another piece of the math that i thought was uh

10:09was interesting is the impact that comes uh that comes in to your point buck

10:15china purchased 90 percent of iran's oil in 2024 right okay okay so uh china

10:25also accounted for one quarter of iran's non -oil exports uh during that uh that

10:33period so basically iran is being funded by china right like much of the iranian

10:41economy directly results uh to um this is why i needed clarification on yeah what

10:48he wants his oil but apparently now he just wants a straight open so you

10:53Get the oil from the Saudis or the Kuwaitis instead?

10:56I think that's the actual result.

10:57But I thought this was crazy.

10:5930 % of Iran's economy, according to this study, and I read this in the

11:04New York Times, actually now comes directly from China.

11:10Oh, yeah. So it's really kind of crazy to think about what the impact is

11:16as it pertains to effectively China is driving almost the entirety of the Iranian economy.

11:25So with President Trump scheduled, when is he going?

11:29He's going in like next month?

11:31Is that right? For a few weeks.

11:33A few weeks. He's going to get a big fat hug, actually.

11:35That's what he said. But that also is my belief.

11:39And you went to Taiwan.

11:40I think all this is really interestingly connected because, remember, China has tried to restrict

11:48the flow in the South China Sea of ships, arguing this is Chinese territory.

11:54We can keep anyone. They put in new islands.

11:57They've created all surrounding the Taiwan situation.

12:00The Strait of Hormuz is a little bit of a test case for what might

12:06be happening in the event that China ever made a move on Taiwan.

12:10And so I think this huge part of this story, Trump wants there to be

12:17a resolution with Iran that he can present to China as a gift of sorts

12:23by the time he goes to China for that state visit.

12:27One of the possibilities, and this was after talking to the Taiwanese president, national security

12:32advisor, and all the rest this past September, one of the concerns that they have

12:37is of a Chinese blockade of the island of Taiwan, obviously.

12:41One of the ways that this could be rolled out against them would be to

12:45claim that there's some dispute between China and Taiwan, whatever it may be, some pretext,

12:50and then they don't actually invade, and they don't even necessarily hit Taiwan with a

12:54lot of missiles or anything.

12:55They just cut off seaborne trade to an island, including the oil and things that

13:00Taiwan needs, and hope that they could essentially get a capitulation before the United States

13:07and Japan, most notably, are able to come to their aid or come to intervene.

13:13This does seem like we have ways of hitting China via blockade without even dealing

13:21with a possible Chinese blockade of Taiwan.

13:24So we have our own leverage points on the global oil supply against them, although

13:29a lot of it, I think, comes from Russia, too.

13:30I think that's hugely important, and not many people have really thought about it.

13:35China is a very fortunate country in many respects when it comes to natural resources

13:42and economic power and everything else.

13:44On oil and gas, we have the ability to curtail the Chinese economy because we

13:51are now energy independent in a way that I don't think a lot of people

13:55have contemplated. And while everybody was trying to say, oh, Iran controls the Strait of

14:01Hormuz and all these other different things, what President Trump did with Venezuela was he

14:05took, China was spending a lot of money with Venezuela and buying their oil and

14:09gas. We now control that supply.

14:11If we control the Iran supply of oil and gas, which it seems like we're

14:15going to have in some way, obviously we're not allowing it at all right now,

14:19in conjunction with those numbers I just shared you about record amounts of oil and

14:23gas production, the United States' ability suddenly when it comes to oil and gas is

14:30maybe the biggest of all of the bargaining chips that we have on the global

14:35stage right now. And that's a direct result of Republicans saying, let's drill baby drill,

14:41which used to be a controversial thing to say.

14:43I was going to say, the biggest national security asset that Trump has deployed in

14:49all of this with Iran, the single most important asset, all the oil men and

14:56oil women, a lot of guys tend to be out in the oil patch though,

15:00who have made us an energy, a true energy superpower in the last couple of

15:04decades, largely because of fracking, which they told us wrongly was going to poison all

15:10of our drinking water and there were idiotic movies and documentaries made about how fracking

15:15was so dangerous. It's not dangerous.

15:18Something like 90 -something percent of wells now are fracked because it's so much more

15:22efficient to extract more out of it.

15:24It involves mostly water and sand from what I understand in the process and then

15:28some solvents. So yeah, we're in a whole different position.

15:33This isn't 1970 -whatever. This is a whole different world of U .S.

15:38energy independence that we're dealing with and Trump has seen this all along.

15:41If we can keep this where the strait is open, the only way that Iran

15:46stops this is if they try to make an example out of a ship and

15:51show that they have to...

15:54Iran, sorry for the terrorist verbiage here, but Iran has to show they're willing to

15:58shoot a hostage. Yes. If they're not willing to shoot a hostage, then they can't

16:02take the strait of Hormuz hostage anymore and that means that now we're just in

16:08a waiting game. I mean, their entire economy is going to implode now if we

16:12really blockade the clay because it's all seaborne trade.

16:15Yes. It's everything. Not a lot of important trade coming from Afghanistan.

16:19One of their neighbors... Iran, like you start to look at this, not a ton

16:22coming over the border from Iraq either.

16:24Like they need access to the ocean.

16:28Here's one thing I will say that makes me nervous about the energy independence.

16:32We have it. What's China's retaliation?

16:38Taking Taiwan and controlling all the semiconductors, which we don't have the ability to produce

16:45in the United States yet.

16:47And President Trump has been smart about this.

16:49You toured with Taiwan Semiconductor, everything else.

16:52If Taiwan's semiconductor chips are taken offline, then we are in a huge world of

17:01hurt almost at the time that you snap your fingers.

17:04And so that is my concern because China doesn't have oil and gas, but they

17:08may say, hey, we got computer chips and you guys can't produce them and you

17:13can't power the AI revolution or much of your entire economy because you can't produce

17:19enough of them. We have to onshore the production of these chips like we onshored

17:26oil and gas. And I think it's actually a hugely important geopolitical decision.

17:31But in the meantime, all the conversation about Iran, Israel, Hezbollah, Lebanon, very little talk

17:37about who's caring for the most vulnerable in Israel's towns and villages.

22:26come to us because I'm sure there'll be some interesting things that he has to

22:29say about where we're on the economy.

22:30Team, Clay, you have the most current lines lit situation.

22:34Do we have time for one call there?

22:35Do we have anybody up?

22:36I know we're running up against the clock here, but I wanted to get to

22:39someone. Yeah, I think we could.

22:41Is Aaron in Colorado still there?

22:44Yeah, I'm here. Fire away.

22:48Well, two things. I just wanted to say, can we get somebody to introduce a

22:53constitutional amendment to cement nine justices so no party can ever interfere with the judicial

23:02branch? And two, if we do, can we just throw Janine Pirro out there as

23:07a possible candidate for a Supreme Court justice just to put a burr in their

23:11saddle? In reverse order, Janine Pirro is awesome.

23:16She's 70 -something. You want the Supreme Court justice to be 40s or 50s at

23:22the oldest because you want it long -term.

23:24Second part of that, I think the idea of stacking the Supreme Court, unfortunately, is

23:32top of mind for Democrats.

23:34The problem is I think any constitutional amendment getting passed is virtually impossible, so I'm

23:41afraid that's something that they may try.

23:42We'll talk about it a little bit more when we come back.

23:44Welcome back in. We will update you a bit on the White House press conference

23:49that is currently going on.

23:51Caroline Levitt fielding questions right now from Peter Doocy of Fox News.

23:55We will give you the latest there.

23:58But, Buck, it is tax day, and I flagged this as I was doing my

24:04research because we hear so much about how often we are living in a completely

24:11unfair tax system. And so these numbers are a couple of years old, and I'm

24:19sure that they have continued to be addressed and to continue to move so that

24:26the so -called rich are paying even more and more.

24:29But let's start here because I do think it's worth mentioning every single tax day

24:34that arises. Roughly half of all Americans pay no federal income taxes.

24:40So if you are paying tax at all today or you have paid tax at

24:46all during the past year, federal income tax, then you are paying more than half

24:52of Americans are. And in fact, as we all know, a lot of people get

24:57refunds that they didn't ever pay in the first place.

25:01So you're getting paid my dollars, your dollars, going to people that did not actually

25:07pay any taxes. Here's some stats for you.

25:09The top 1 % pays 40, and this is rough.

25:14It's actually increased. I think since then pays 40 % of all income taxes.

25:20The top 10 % pays 72 % of all income taxes.

25:27And the top 25 % pays 87 % of all income taxes.

25:35So in the United States, if you are in the 75 % of earners below

25:43the top 25%, you only pay 13 % of all federal income tax dollars.

25:50Does that seem like money well spent?

25:53And the older I get, the more frustrated and angry I am about the money

26:00that I pay that gets completely wasted and the fact that like many of you

26:06out there, I work two of the five days every week directly to pay the

26:13federal government. So every time you hear me on Monday and Tuesday on this radio

26:17program, I am not actually making any money at all.

26:20It's going straight to the government.

26:23It's kind of crazy to think about.

26:24And the same is true for many of you out there.

26:26Now, Buck, that is never enough though.

26:30So New York City, which I believe we said the other day, has a bigger

26:36government than the state of Florida.

26:38New York State is about twice as big as the state of Florida's government.

26:42But I believe New York City by itself has a bigger budget than the entire

26:48state of Florida. Yet it is not enough.

26:51And Kathy Hochul and Mom Donnie are now saying, hey, if you have a second

26:58home in New York City that costs $5 million or more, they're going to ratchet

27:03up the tax rates on you to a significant degree.

27:05And you know what's going to happen, Buck?

27:08Phones are ringing in Florida.

27:09Phones are ringing in Texas.

27:11Phones are ringing in Tennessee because you're paying 40%.

27:14And then you add another What's going to happen?

27:16So this is going to happen in the landscape.

27:16There you are. 13 % over half of your money before you even pay property

27:19taxes, if you live in New York City, is going to the city, the state,

27:24and the federal government. The good news, though, Clay, is sure, the taxes are high.

27:30Sure, people are fleeing New York and California in high -tax jurisdictions continuously now.

27:36But the good news is that Momdani is focusing on the really important stuff, like

27:40building a government -run grocery store that will cost $30 million and take three years.

27:47Here it is, Momdani making his case yesterday in Harlem in Manhattan.

27:54This is cut 11. Let's hear from Kwame Momdani, the governor of New York.

28:00I'm sorry, the mayor of New York City.

28:02Here he is. Play 11.

28:03New York City, it is time for a grand experiment once again.

28:07Just as LaGuardia used government to respond to the challenges of the Great Depression, we

28:11will use government to respond to rising prices and unaffordable groceries.

28:16The city will subsidize a core set of staples.

28:19A private operator will run the store, but they answer to the standards that the

28:24city will set. These standards include requirements that at our stores, bread will be cheaper,

28:30eggs will be cheaper, grocery shopping will no longer be an unsolvable equation, and workers

28:36will be treated with dignity.

28:40Okay, so unless he's going to subsidize this directly with tax dollars, which is just

28:46a welfare program then, right?

28:49It's just a version of food stamps except you've got to go get the food.

28:53You don't just get the money to get the food.

28:56This has a 0 % chance of working the way that is planned.

28:59I think he even maybe at some level knows that, and this is why the

29:03three -year timeline, when he's up for mayor, I might add, for reelect, three -year

29:08timeline is no problem for him because he gets to keep talking about how great

29:12this is going to be until people realize this is going to be like a

29:15Soviet Union grocery store with really good prices on bread that isn't even on the

29:21shelves. How do you think he's really this dumb?

29:26Can we play that cut again?

29:28Does he really think that grocery stores are gouging people and that running a grocery

29:39store is the greatest business that's ever existed in the history of mankind?

29:44I mean, play that cut again if we could because anyone who believes any of

29:50this is a complete moron.

29:53Momdani's not a complete moron.

29:54Surely he understands, and this makes it worse, right?

29:58Because he knows he's lying.

30:00Surely he understands what you said earlier in the program, and all of you know.

30:04The profit margin on groceries is among the lowest profit margins of any capital -intensive

30:12business on the planet. You can.

30:14This is one of the things I like about AI.

30:15Just like I like X because it shows more of reality now to people.

30:20Like, you see, like, crimes that are happening and how awful they are and who's

30:24committing them, and the media doesn't get to just say, oh, we have no idea.

30:27You can just do really quick data analysis now.

30:29You don't have to. It's way better than Google at this on Grok.

30:33Clay, it's the Food Industry Association says that the average profit in 2024 for a

30:41grocery store, average, 1 .7 % per item.

30:461 .7%. If someone thinks that's price gouging, they're an imbecile.

30:53They're an ignoramus. They know nothing.

30:55But an ignoramus runs the city of New York right now, unfortunately.

31:01I mean, this is just such basic research.

31:04So play this again because, and I understand people get frustrated, and we've talked about

31:08this with gas prices too.

31:10The gas stations are not gouging you.

31:12They're not making very much money on gas.

31:14Grocery stores is one of the worst, most difficult businesses that you could possibly get

31:20into because it is so incredibly difficult to actually make a consistent profit.

31:26But listen to Mom Donnie.

31:27He's going to, I mean, this is just, of all the arguments you could make,

31:32I'm going to run a grocery store, and it's going to be way cheaper, and

31:36you're going to get a way higher quality product, is one of the dumbest arguments

31:40I've ever heard a Democrat make.

31:42It's right up there with defund the police.

31:44But listen to this again.

31:45It's just not true. Buck just gave you the data.

31:47New York City, it is time for a grand experiment once again.

31:51Just as LaGuardia used government to respond to the challenges of the Great Depression, we

31:56will use government to respond to rising prices and unaffordable groceries.

32:00The city will subsidize a core set of staples.

32:04A private operator will run the store, but they answer to the standards that the

32:09city will set. These standards include requirements that at our stores, bread will be cheaper,

32:14eggs will be cheaper, grocery shopping will no longer be an unsolvable equation, and workers

32:21will be treated with dignity.

32:23Okay, so he's saying they're going to subsidize the price of groceries, Buck, which means

32:28taxpayers are going to give money to buy groceries for other people, which means everybody

32:36has less. It's less efficiency.

32:39I would actually just prefer that they be honest about this and increase this.

32:43and it's a great time.

32:43It's my goodness. It'sENC without chance.

32:44the, you know, EBT benefits or whatever, the food stamps benefits.

32:47So these people, we all know exactly what's going on.

32:49But he said only for staples.

32:52Now, this brings up some really interesting.

32:54So he's like, milk and bread, no one is poor.

32:58And I mean no one because of the price of milk and bread.

33:02There are other things where red meat has gotten a lot higher.

33:05It's fine. But milk and bread is not actually where people are.

33:08The budget is finally just too constrained.

33:10That's not what's breaking the proverbial camel's back.

33:14There are other things and other budgetary matters that are far.

33:17By the way, that cost of health care, the cost of housing, like those are

33:20things, if you're in New York City, that are crushing people.

33:22The expectation that people are going to spend 40, 50, 60 percent on rent.

33:28And you might say, oh, well, Momdani wants to help with that too.

33:31He's going to make that worse.

33:33You want to deal with that issue?

33:35Then you have to deal with all the regulations in New York City that artificially

33:38constrain supply. But they don't believe in supply and demand in Commie Momdani -ville.

33:44They think they can just wave a magic Marxist wand.

33:47Clay, on this issue of the milk and bread also, New York City was where

33:52they ran an experiment some years ago about food deserts.

33:56And the whole premise was, I've talked about this in the show before, so I'll

33:59give you a short version.

34:00But it's really interesting. And the New York Times was who did a story on

34:03it. It was under the Obama administration, no surprise.

34:06Federal program, hey, you know why they aren't eating enough arugula in low -income, high

34:11-crime areas? You know why they aren't really digging into the quinoa?

34:17It's because we haven't subsidized it.

34:20If we only made it cheaper, the arugula and the quinoa and the free -range,

34:26you know, duck a la range, it would be flying off the shelves.

34:32You know what they found when they did this project, this pilot project of the

34:35so -called food desert, by giving people artificially cheap access to radishes?

34:40And by the way, I'm being serious.

34:41Those were the kinds of foods that didn't change buying behavior at all.

34:45You know what people wanted to buy, particularly with food stamps?

34:48Soda, chips, and candy. Yep.

34:52Soda, chips, and candy. Biggest items.

34:55Ever go to a grocery store in a low -income area?

34:58I've been to them because of my time at the NYPD.

35:00Long story, we can talk about it another time.

35:02I've been to many of them, actually.

35:03And, Clay, that's what they're mostly selling at the front.

35:07It's not because people don't have access to cheap produce.

35:10They don't want it. So they're also going to call up against this issue.

35:14They're going to make milk and bread really cheap.

35:16And you know what's going to happen?

35:17They're going to run out of the milk and the bread.

35:18Their milk and the bread is not going to be well -stocked.

35:21It's not going to be what people want.

35:22And they're going to find out that's actually not what people are buying anyway.

35:24Anyway, also, of all the places to deliver food to, the cost to get product

35:32into New York City has to be off the charts.

35:37Yeah. So even if you were going to run a government -funded grocery store, I

35:42think it would fail everywhere.

35:43Kansas City did this recently.

35:45And they had to shut down because they couldn't keep produce on the shelves.

35:49And they couldn't keep product.

35:50And nobody wanted it. Getting product to New York City to a grocery store is

35:55going to be virtually impossible.

35:57And this is going to be an unmitigated disaster.

36:00Just put a pin in this.

36:01It's going to fail epically.

36:03I doubt whether it will ever even really start to run.

36:07And it's going to cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars, which is why they've

36:12got to raise more money because they keep spending and wasting what they get.

36:16Publix is a very well -known Florida -based grocery chain.

36:20I go to Publix all the time.

36:23The annual net sales is something like $40 million.

36:27Billion. Just public data. Million, sorry, per store.

36:31$40 million in sales per store.

36:35Now, this is where you start to see, okay, there is a profit motive here.

36:40Meaning if you sell $40 million of groceries at a 1 % or 2 %

36:46profit margin, you're making money.

36:49And that's when you've covered everything.

36:50That's with taxes and everything else.

36:51But you're doing fine. And if you do 100 of these, now you've really got

36:55a big business, right? The point is it's all about scale.

36:59And what they're going to do at this grocery store that New York City is

37:02going to run, which I'm telling you is going to be the saddest, give it

37:04six months after opening, it'll be the saddest, most pathetic grocery store you've ever seen.

37:09They don't understand the way that scale actually works, so they think, oh, well, we're

37:15going to sell $3 million of groceries just 30 % cheaper than everybody else in

37:19the city. And it's going to be a disaster, and the whole thing is going

37:23to collapse. And I think Mom Donnie knows it, Clay, but he's doing it anyway

37:26because it's about the story.

37:29It's not about the groceries.

37:30It's not about helping people with their costs.

37:33It's the talking point. But we want to help all of you have beautiful plants,

37:39beautiful trees, beautiful roses. I look outside while I'm doing this show every single day.
