Tim Greimel on MI House Race and GOP Attacks on State

4/3/202620 mincomplete
0:00MAGA Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House and all MAGA Republicans are panicking
0:05after a shock poll, which may be the most disastrous poll yet leading into the
0:11midterms for MAGA Republicans. What this latest CNN poll has found, it's basically that everybody
0:17hates both parties. It's pretty much that a quarter of Americans say they hate both
0:21parties. But amongst that cohort of what's called the double haters and people who hate
0:28politics in general, they prefer Democrats by 31 points.
0:34So people who don't like politics, people who otherwise are just like, just get me
0:39away from all of this.
0:41I just am done with this crap.
0:42They want to vote for Democrats, though, by 31 in order to do essentially regime
0:48change here in the United States.
0:50G. Elliot Morris writes, this might be the largest party lead I've ever seen among
0:56the so -called double haters cohort.
0:59A new CNN poll finds about one quarter of the public holds a negative view
1:03of both parties, so -called double haters.
1:06Voters in that group, however, prefer the Democrats in the upcoming midterms by 31 points.
1:13You know, so what MAGA Republicans are trying to do heading into the midterms is
1:19their usual scare tactics. You know, they've got people like MAGA Republican Scott Perry, who
1:24just went on TV. And he's like, you know, the immigrants, they're going to slit
1:28your throats. They slit your throats and they they kill you.
1:31And the Democrats support the the throat slitting, killing people.
1:36And it's like, just stop it.
1:38We know we've stopped with the fear mongering.
1:40OK, you know, Donald Trump's latest one point five trillion dollar military budget proposes one
1:46hundred and fifty two million dollars to rebuild Alcatraz.
1:49Donald Trump's on video and audio saying that we don't have enough money to help
1:55people in America for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and for other critical functions, that we
2:00must spend all of our money on war and a one point five trillion dollar
2:04war budget right now. Anyway, here's what Scott Perry has to say.
2:07Play this clip. And with, you know, people that have been arrested multiple times and
2:14stay in the country, they slit the throats of young women on trains.
2:18They stabbed elder or mid, you know, midterm, not midterm, but middle aged women in
2:24in in Virginia at a train station.
2:27They shoot people, a young lady in college in the back of the head.
2:31That's who Democrats are willing to stand with.
2:33That's going to be the choice that Americans have to make when they go to
2:38the then MAGA Republican Congress member Barry Moore took his turn this morning on a
2:43state regime media, which calls itself Newsmax.
2:46And Barry Moore was like, you know what?
2:48Guess what, everybody? Here's what we're going to run on.
2:51Now that Pam Bondi is no longer attorney general, we in the House Oversight Committee,
2:56MAGA Republicans, we're going to try to avoid Bondi being subpoenaed so that she doesn't
3:02still have to talk about the Epstein files.
3:04And we could just cover that up the way Todd Blanch has said, you know
3:07what? We're done talking about the Epstein files from here on out here.
3:12Play this clip. Congressman, now next question for many people is will Pam Bondi be
3:16forced to sit for a subpoena with House Oversight Committee over the Epstein files on
3:21April 14th, I believe? What are you hearing from some of your colleagues on that?
3:25Do you think that will stand and they will still draft?
3:27occur before that uh that deposition you know probably not i mean jamie calmer is
3:34going to make that call obviously as chairman of the committee but i don't i
3:36don't know that that's beneficial now that she's not the attorney general and again that's
3:40jamie's call and we'll see what they decide to go with and there may be
3:42some information that we need as we're investigating epstein and like i said i think
3:46the weaponization of the doj the fbi the cia those agencies what they've done to
3:51the the justice department and i mentioned this to merrick garland here and they have
3:54undermined the trust of the american people in the fbi the cia all those agencies
3:59so we'll see if jamie wants to bring it out about epstein or the doj
4:03maybe we can get some information but i think that'll be up to the chairman
4:06and see what he wants to do yeah then you had maga republican congress member
4:09chip roy uh he went on state regime media which calls itself fox this morning
4:15and chip roy says you know what i'm looking for in a new attorney general
4:19somebody who goes after the people who harassed the january 6th there's we need somebody
4:28pro insurrectionist pro overthrowing governments when the election doesn't go your way that's what i'm
4:35looking for in a new attorney general i mean he just goes and outright says
4:38it here play this clip right here we've got to deal with things like um
4:42antifa the president rightly declared them a terrorist organization we want to see people who
4:48are affiliated with these marxist networks funding antifa creating all sorts of danger for the
4:52american people we want them held accountable we want the people who are harassing j6ers
4:57held accountable we want to know the truth on arctic frost my records were targeted
5:03under arctic frost on jack smith we want to see heads roll we want to
5:08see john brennan who the the judiciary committee referred to the department of justice held
5:12accountable and jim comey like these are all things that we think need to happen
5:16the next attorney general needs to be very aggressive uh and i hope the president
5:20will pick somebody who will do that and i've been working with todd blanche and
5:23i look forward to working with him in the interim you know it's just interesting
5:26too seeing the right wing so -called podcast bros you know all the people who
5:32wrap their arms around donald trump as they now look at the disastrous wars in
5:37the middle east as they look at donald trump wreaking havoc here on the united
5:42states and destroying lives and ice and border patrol gestapo terrorizing and torturing people here
5:48just take a look at two of the the bigger podcast bros by the way
5:52the midas touch network gets significantly more downloads and views now than both joe rogan
5:57and theo vaughn but here's rogan and theo vaughn talking about how i'm so confused
6:02man about everything that's going on man i'm so confused man it's so so confusing
6:08here play this clip what do you think is going to happen you think we're
6:12going to be okay i hope so of course i don't know do you think
6:15about it i'm confused i can't believe we went to this war i when we
6:19started bombing iran i was like this can't be true and what about lebanon now
6:22i know israel's invaded lebanon yeah yeah and it's like just stop it what do
6:29you need well they're trying to supposedly they're trying to stop the terrorists that's crazy
6:36though if you're the fucking terrorist you know what i'm saying like if you want
6:42to stop them fucking stand in front of the fucking mirror and start there you
6:46know i want to bring on somebody by the name of tim grimel he's running
6:51for congress right now in the uh in michigan um a critical seat as well
6:59let's bring him in as well to kind of talk about all of this let's
7:01bring in my interview with tim grimel now i want to bring in tim grimel
7:06former mayor of Pontiac, Michigan, former Democratic state house leader in Michigan, now running for
7:13the 10th congressional district. There's an open seat there, MAGA Republican John James running for
7:20governor. The area for the 10th congressional district is Oakland, nearby areas, parts of Oakland
7:27and other nearby areas, which we'll talk about.
7:31When I led into this segment, I showed a bunch of video clips of these
7:35MAGA Republican Congress members who are doing their usual tricks, Tim.
7:40I mean, they are doing the fear mongering, you know, the immigrants are going to
7:44kill you. And that's why we need, you know, MAGA Republicans to protect you.
7:51This is a very big race.
7:53It's a race that very well and could and should flip blue right here.
7:58And lots of people are focusing it almost as like a bellwether for what's going
8:03to happen in the rest of the country.
8:04You're running for the seat.
8:07Talk to us about how important this is.
8:09Then we'll get into your background as well.
8:10But talk about how important is this race?
8:13Yeah, this really is ground zero for our efforts to get back to a Democratic
8:17majority in the U .S.
8:18House. And obviously, I don't need to tell you, Ben, or your viewers how important
8:24it is for us to get back to a Democratic majority in the U .S.
8:27House. That is the most immediate, most important way that we can restore checks and
8:32balances on this presidency. And the 10th district here in Michigan is probably the best
8:39opportunity in Michigan to flip a Republican seat and certainly one of the top five
8:44or 10 opportunities in the entire country.
8:46So it's a real must -win district if we're going to get back to a
8:50majority in the U .S.
8:51House and restore checks and balances on the insanity that we're seeing from the Trump
8:55administration. You know, what's so fascinating about the 10th, and you can tell us a
8:59little bit about the counties and the cities.
9:02I've been to the area before, you know, and I know the area to be
9:07very reasonable, moderate, like let's make deals and figure out what's in the best interest,
9:13and actually not in any way any type of like MAGA extremist.
9:20Like that's just not the makeup of the area.
9:23And so I just find it fascinating as I do interviews, you know, with you
9:27running for the 10th, but I've done interviews with other people, you know, running in
9:31nearby congressional districts as well, others that occupy areas of Oakland and other things.
9:37It's that like, you know, you have these kind of Trump sycophants who have done
9:41things that are really harmful to the district that are really extreme in these areas.
9:48And it just, it never felt like a fit.
9:50And I understand that when somebody gets into Congress, you know, they often are able
9:54to kind of have this incumbency advantage.
9:57It's an open seat right now, I should mention, based on John James running for
10:01governor. But it's always a weird thing to have like an ultra MAGA in a
10:04district. It's just surprising to me.
10:06Well, it is, you know, the average person in the 10th district is a normal
10:12person. They're people who are concerned about their family, about their communities.
10:18They're not an extremist. They're not really a MAGA true believer.
10:22And so my friends, my neighbors here in the 10th district, they really just want
10:27what every American wants, a better life for them and their families.
10:31They want to see their communities function and thrive.
10:33And so the fact that they've been represented by somebody who's been just gone along
10:41with literally everything that President Trump has done, no matter or how detrimental it's been
10:46to the local communities here in the 10th district is really disappointing to a lot
10:51of people here in the 10th because they just want some common sense representation, people
10:55who are fighting for them, for normal, hardworking Americans.
10:59And they haven't unfortunately gotten that over the course of the past four years.
11:04So, Tim, you've held lots of different positions, you know, whether you were a mayor
11:09doing kind of the day to day, you know, you know, governance hands on of
11:15a city like Pontiac. Similarly, you've led, you know, the Michigan state Dems in the
11:21House and you've, you know, rose up the ranks there.
11:25You've seen it all. To talk to us a little bit about your background, though,
11:29particularly and the issues that you would be fighting for if you were elected.
11:35Yeah. You know, I was born here in the 10th district, grew up here, graduated
11:39from high school here. And when I graduated from University of Michigan Law School, came
11:45back home to the 10th district and ultimately ran for and was elected to the
11:51local school board here, became a union side labor lawyer, and then ultimately became the
11:58statehouse democratic leader in the Michigan legislature, where I successfully fought to expand health care
12:04here in the state by expanding Medicaid coverage to provide health insurance to 700 ,000
12:10uninsured Michiganders. I successfully fought to increase Michigan's minimum wage and for the first time
12:15in state history, index it to inflation and really have dedicated my whole adult life
12:21to standing up for hardworking Americans, fighting for a stronger middle class.
12:27And, you know, we've seen increasingly in recent decades that the rich in this country
12:32have gotten richer and richer while everybody else has been falling further and further behind.
12:37And I've dedicated my adult life to try to be part of the solution and
12:42try to actually make sure that we're bringing the American dream within reach of everyday
12:47people again. You know, Donald Trump said in the past 24 hours or so, we
12:54don't have enough money to deal with Medicaid, Medicare, or really any social programs or
13:01social security. That's not what we should be doing as a federal government.
13:05I mean, I wish I was being hyperbolic here, Tim.
13:09And, but he said, he worked for words, said that.
13:12And then he went on to say, what we really only have money for kid,
13:17everybody, not, they all saw these clips is war.
13:21And Donald Trump is putting forward now a budget, $1 .5 trillion, mostly focused on
13:28military spending, more endless wars.
13:32And the American people are like, you've ripped away our healthcare.
13:36You are now causing inflation to surge again.
13:40We're struggling to get jobs.
13:42Your trade war against the world has crushed us.
13:45And you've seen that firsthand in, in Michigan, especially with some of the things Trump's
13:49done in attacking Canada. Um, and especially them and our other allies and people are
13:55like, what, what did you just say?
13:57And sometimes I just think, I'm like, what the hell did he just even say?
14:00And how is this even talked about, talked about through any like normal political prism?
14:06Like I remember growing up and I'm sure you do too, where Dan Quell spelled
14:09potato wrong. And it was like, dude, you're done.
14:12There's no more political career for you.
14:14I mean, he's up there saying, we don't care about you.
14:17We're just going to war and that's where the money's going.
14:20And, and, and look, he's deeply unpopular.
14:22Like it's 33. percent approval but like still it's like all right what what what
14:27the hell is even going on tim yeah i mean unfortunately and it's sad ben
14:32but you're not being hyperbolic i mean i i saw the same clip you saw
14:36that that so many americans have seen and we have a president of the white
14:41house who is profoundly out of touch with the needs and concerns of regular americans
14:48and you hit on a couple of things uh you mentioned the tariffs of course
14:52and those have been incredibly punishing to regular people to hard -working americans uh you
14:59know the cost of living was already high when trump entered office and his tariffs
15:05have just made that situation all the more worse uh we see incredibly high energy
15:11costs we see skyrocketing health insurance premiums because of trump's health care policies uh we
15:16see housing costs continue to to go up and up and up and grocery store
15:21prices are still incredibly high i mean i we often make chili in my household
15:25and i was out watching uh uh uh the the uh gas prices of course
15:31hit four dollars a gallon here locally uh while i was driving to the grocery
15:36store and then at the grocery store i was buying meat for our chili and
15:41hamburger costs seven dollars a pound now and so if you're an everyday person who
15:47meanwhile is seeing their their wages stagnate and the cost of everything is going up
15:52and up and up uh the tariffs are hitting folks incredibly hard it's a tax
15:58on consumers and it's driving inflation even higher and then meanwhile it's disrupting supply chains
16:05especially here in this district where we have a lot of auto plants that rely
16:09on parts coming across the border from canada and the tariffs on on canada of
16:14all places are disrupting those supply chains idling plants resulting in layoffs resulting in people
16:21losing income while they're also simultaneously driving the cost of goods that people rely on
16:28day in and day out ever higher and we need to get back to a
16:33rational tariff policy you know it's one thing to impose tariffs on bad actors in
16:38the world uh but imposing them on places like canada and western europe places with
16:43good labor standards good environmental standards makes no sense at all and it's just punishing
16:47regular americans the other thing you hit on of course and that trump was speaking
16:52about uh recently is the fact that that because of military expenditures he doesn't think
16:58the federal government can afford to do anything to help regular people with health care
17:04with child care and it's outrageous i mean obviously iran and and iran's government in
17:10particular uh has been a horribly malevolent force uh to its own people to people
17:17in the entire middle east region and they can never be allowed to obtain a
17:22nuclear weapon but people in the 10th district and all across this country have no
17:26interest in yet another endless war and trump has no strategy obviously uh he has
17:34said in his own words that because of the focus on military expenditures the federal
17:40government can't afford to help everyday people with their basic needs i i was talking
17:46with a woman the other day who's not sure she can continue working because she
17:51can't afford child care meanwhile we have people losing their health insurance because of trump's
17:56health care policies health care policies this is completely unacceptable the people in the 10th
18:01district you And Americans in general want a federal government that prioritizes their families, their
18:07day -to -day needs, making sure that we can actually bring the American dream back
18:13within reach of regular folks.
18:15And unfortunately, this administration is so out of touch that they are prioritizing other things
18:22over the needs of American people and everyday folks.
18:27And that's unacceptable. And the whole reason I got into politics is to fight for
18:31middle -class families, fight for working families.
18:34I have delivered results in the past in my state legislative role.
18:38I've delivered results as a union -side labor lawyer who has gone toe -to -toe
18:42against billionaires and successfully fought and won for working people.
18:47And we have a president who's out of control, and we need to get back
18:50to a majority in the U .S.
18:52House. But we need to elect fighters who not only have a proven track record
18:56of fighting for everyday people, but of winning those battles and delivering results so that
19:01we can get back to building a strong middle class in this country.
19:04Tim, where could people learn more about you and your campaign?
19:07Well, the easiest place is timgrimel .com.

19:35people and get back to building a strong middle class in this country.
