2:25Yeah. Well, I mean, they're not beating you with truncheons, but you go to a

2:27college campus and it's like, hey, tell that purple haired dude it's actually a chick

2:31and use the preferred pronouns or we're going to kick you out of school.

2:33So it's almost like there's been a programming already and now what takes place next

2:39is really dependent on people whether or not they have the understanding that this is

2:44the reality. I'm so proud to welcome the great Buck Sexton to the show, back

2:58to the show. He was our first guest.

3:03And then also, once again, it was Buck who gave us the opportunity to come

3:15All right. Manufacturing delusion. Dude, when did this pop into your head and why would

3:22you ever want to tackle the magnitude of this issue?

3:27So, brother, it was, first of all, thank you for having me and thank you

3:30for making me look good for you being my draft choice for the Clay and

3:33Buck podcast network. People are like, he's doing a really good show and the audience

3:38loves it and keeps growing.

3:39And I'm like, there we go.

3:41Thank you. Buck's got a little swagger, knows the talent.

3:45So, how I came up with this book was after COVID, and I mean, like,

3:50really after, like, when pretty much everybody, I just kept walking around saying to myself

3:55or, you know, thinking or muttering out loud, how did these people go so insane?

4:00Like, what is this? How does this happen?

4:04And the more I thought about it also, I was like, well, you know, the

4:09craziness of some of these people that you saw during COVID, where they were, like,

4:12policing other people and believing wildly, obviously untrue stuff, like double mask and all that.

4:18By the way, this is not a COVID book, right?

4:20But that's just kind of the germ of the thought.

4:23The trigger. Yeah, exactly. I was like, but then you also think about BLM and

4:29you think about some of the transgender stuff.

4:32It's like there are people, it's not everyone, but there are these mobs, masses that

4:38are engaged in what is clearly a mass hysteria.

4:41And they believe things that are so evidently false that you have to call it

4:46a delusion, right? Because there's no facts, there's nothing, you can't present them with evidence

4:52to show them that they're wrong.

4:53That's a delusion, right? So this is where I said, well, hold on a second,

4:57where else does that happen?

4:59And I was like, this happens in totalitarian societies.

5:02In fact, the entirety of day -to -day life at the hands of a state,

5:07whether it's the Soviet Union, Maoist China, North Korea, et cetera, et cetera, Nazi Germany,

5:14is rooted in mandatory or manufactured delusions.

5:18So I started this journey into how do they do that?

5:23Like what is it that are the...

5:25don't mean how in the most broad terms i wanted to know like what are

5:27the tactical like what's the ttp yes yes into things like um you know uh

5:34forced confession uh um isolation identity construction and really the book is just looking at

5:42these things that are done to people to effectively bring about craziness in individuals but

5:49on a mass scale and the masses and that's how they manufacture a a delusion

5:54uh and in doing so i came across mirlu who you are the only dude

5:58i have to give rutt credit but i've done dozens and dozens of interviews you

6:02know we're still in like the opening uh opening salvo here of media and i'm

6:06just like already i'm like oh my god no one else has ever heard of

6:10this guy rutt when i told because i talked to you when i was writing

6:12this book juice mirlu was a psychiatrist for your audience i know you know yeah

6:19please please a psychiatrist who uh he changed his name from abraham in occupied uh

6:25the netherlands holland during the second world war to evade the nazis and made his

6:30way to england and joined the dutch army in exile but he was a trained

6:35psychiatrist and so he's like you know what i could do here i could help

6:38in information operations psychological operations i can debrief nazi ss prisoners to learn what how

6:45did you do this like how did you psychologically corrupt the whole society and he

6:49wrote a book called the rape of the mind that's a particularly seminal work on

6:53this issue where he looks at this is how you break people down this is

6:58how uh you can create mass delusion and so that i mean menticide is his

7:04term the killing of the brain that's the second chapter of the book and i

7:07look at gender theory and gender identity where it's like okay i understand we're not

7:12all in camps and you know they don't have like guards with with bayonets to

7:15our throats but you're supposed to say something that's obviously false and if you don't

7:20you get fired that's a coercive psychological approach right you're supposed to say oh no

7:25that that's not a penis that's a vagina no it's not assigned at birth in

7:31fact the whole notion of assigned at birth is preposterous dave you've got kids you

7:34can know long before birth whether it's a boy or a girl so that makes

7:37the whole thing makes no sense well i think you're i mean first off i

7:42i'm i am so happy that you tackled this right a lot of people have

7:47tackled whether it was you know rfk jr's book uh the real anthony fauci and

7:52the manipulation of of of of ideas around uh our science industries because one of

7:58the components that me or lou talks about right is when you capture different industries

8:03or in particular science or governments and and and it's i everybody knows that governments

8:09use propagandas to manipulate but i think what what we're seeing now although like you

8:15said we're not in a totalitarian state but the conditioning has improved to such a

8:22magnificent level that you know through this thing right here you know i'm i'm a

8:27slave in in the conditioning and to i for me it was i for me

8:33it was really i think it was uh dr robert malone right when he went

8:38on rogan the first time and he called he talked about the phrase mass formation

8:43psychosis as a result of the the covid mania and he quoted a friend of

8:49him matthias desmit who also wrote a book post covid uh called the psychology of

8:55totalitarianism so as i started to research this i immediately found uh uh you know

9:02smear lou's book uh and i was i read that and it was the roadmap

9:06yes yeah just smear lou there's a reason why he became a phenomenon in the

9:1150s and by the way that was right at the time where the term brainwashing

9:15and just to be clear for everyone like why do i want you to get

9:18this book there's a lot of right -wing slop books i'll just be honest there

9:21are there's a lot of right -wing slop books you pay someone 15 grand and

9:25it's like here's how i think we can save america and how much i love

9:28trump you're learning nothing okay that's right i took 18 months to research and write

9:33this book every word of it myself i had five months of prb or pcrb

9:39by the way they call it now dave because dave knows from the cia side

9:44i had to get cleared for this because for the first time and you know

9:48i'm very clear about this stuff like i was like i was an analyst or

9:51whatever but this is about being an analyst of things this isn't about being some

9:55one of the door kicker i leave the door kicking to you right um but

9:59i talked about my my first yeah my first uh cia assignment to nigeria which

10:05i never talked about before which was wild stuff because i was essentially sent to

10:10a place no one wanted to go yeah and they they almost pulled me when

10:13they realized how junior they're like what are you doing you know sometimes they're like

10:17what the hell are you doing here giving the stuff that i was get and

10:21there was one guy uh who let's just say at home base there in nigeria

10:26who just took me under his wing who was a senior dude and he's like

10:30you're smart and capable you're gonna come with me everywhere so i went with him

10:34to every meeting i went all over the place all over the country looking for

10:38and looking at really the origins of what became boko haram that's right and that's

10:43right and there were all it was already um the different mosques and the way

10:48that they were the way that they were isolating people from even the even the

10:52islamic community around them, the way they were doing identity construction, you know, so I

10:57saw it sort of in the earliest phase, and then I talk a little bit

11:00about some of the research into, like, jihadist suicide bomber rat lines in Iraq and—

13:15What? 25 ,000 madrasas. I remember in 05, when I went back, there was a,

13:20an expose. I forget. It was either BBC or something.

13:23There was a, a reporter.

13:24Uh, I forget what her name was award -winning reporter and she, they let her

13:28into the madrasas and that's exactly what it was.

13:32It was the systematic conversion, right?

13:35You go into Quetta, you say, hey, you've got 10 kids.

13:38I'll take your eight to 13 year old.

13:41I'll bring them in. I'll teach them how to Arabic.

13:44I'll teach them the Quran.

13:46And then over time, you know, they created what something like a hundred thousand suicide

13:52bombers, a jihadist army, Mullah's missiles.

13:55They were, they were called.

13:56Yeah. So it's, it's, it's fascinating to me that as such a, a young analyst

14:02in, in, in really this profound time of, of mind manipulation in particular within Islam

14:09itself, you know, that, that triggered this thing that has stayed with you to now

14:15where, you know, as one of the, the, the top commentators in the world, you

14:20are so connected to witnessing the other side or whatever, the other side of totalitarianism.

14:26And now to, to say, all right, I'm going to invest a really profound amount

14:31of time when you had a lot of things going on in your life, by

14:34the way, during that time.

14:37So, yeah. So like when you told, when we were on the phone and you

14:40were like, dude, I'm writing a book about this.

14:43I was like, yes, this thing's going to rock, man.

14:46So thank you, man. And I appreciated your support all, all along as I was

14:49doing it. And, uh, and I'll tell you, you know what Russ said to me?

14:53He's like, he's like, dude, you're diving into mirror.

14:54This thing's going to be awesome.

14:56It's a quote. Okay. So he, he knew, and this, that was like two years

14:59ago, this book took a long time to get, to get to where it is

15:02now. Um, but you know, you, you talk about, uh, what was going on with

15:06the madrasas and, and, uh, in Pakistan, for example, but this is the thing you

15:10say, there's like this very specific process.

15:13Well, yeah, there is. And that's what mirror Lou saw by the way.

15:16So did Robert Lifton, who in the third chapter of the book, brainwashing, brainwashing for

15:21the audience. Uh, and there's a lot of this kind of stuff in the book

15:24that you should know just the history of these things.

15:25That's an American term. It's a neologism from the Mandarin for wash mind, which is

15:31actually what they were saying among the Chinese in the early days of Maoist China,

15:36the early days of the cultural revolution was happening to people who would be released.

15:40They're like, this person has had wash mind.

15:42We call it brainwashing because of Edward Hunter.

15:45He was a journalist who came up with that.

15:46They had a term for it though.

15:48The Chinese thought reform. It was the reforming of your thoughts and it was very

15:54systematic. Where did they get it from?

15:56The chai comms. They got it from the Soviets.

16:00That's right. And now if you want to know where did the Soviets come up

16:02with some of this stuff, the father of conditioning was Ivan Pavlov.

16:07Now Pavlov was not a commie, but the first chapter I get into is, uh,

16:13or rather I should say, you know, recognize the, the failures of communism, although he

16:17also benefited from their system once they realized.

16:20He was too important a scientist to just like let starve in the streets because

16:24that was actually something that they're worried about or he was worried about at one

16:27point because of all the failures of the Leninist system early on.

16:30But Pavlov, it's fascinating. Pavlov is doing the first scientific studies, really, of external stimuli

16:40taken in by the brain affecting the body directly.

16:44People knew that, you know, they were looking at this, but this is the earliest

16:47word he's proving because of the gastric secretions of dogs.

16:51And this is where we get to the buzzer.

16:52People have this whole thing about like Pavlov was great at training dogs.

16:55He wasn't training dogs. He was running scientific experiments to see what the brain body

17:02connection was. And the correlation between the limbic response, right, your parasympathetic and your sympathetic

17:09nervous, the dynamic integration of those two things based on stimuli, right?

17:17Exactly. And so if you have enough of a stimulus from the outside that over

17:23time is repeated and the brain picks it up, even subconsciously, can there be a

17:27physiological response? Of course, the answer was yes.

17:30But what was fascinating, and I talk about this in the book, which is called

17:34Manufacturing Delusion, and I want all the pipe hitters and snake heaters and Rutt's audience,

17:39you will like this book.

17:40All right. You know, this is analysts analyze, damn it.

17:44This is what I do.

17:45And this is a good book.

17:46And you guys will appreciate it.

17:47Well, it's funny you bring that up because like when you were telling me about

17:51it, like for me, and you know, sometimes it's difficult to acknowledge this, but we

17:57experienced this and going through buds, right?

18:00Like I remember in hell week, like third night, you're sitting in late night shower,

18:06whatever it was, and an instructor would come over and put like a glass of

18:10cold ice water next to you.

18:13Just set it down. Just put it right down next to you.

18:15And I'd look at it and immediately start shaking, like because I had developed hydrophobia

18:20from being immersed in the water.

18:22And that was the first time I was like, holy shit.

18:26I've just been conditioned through the integration of this.

18:30And it happened like that.

18:32It happened like that. So let me take you back to the huge Eureka moment

18:37in 1924. And in some people's minds, it's kind of the scientific beginnings of brainwashing

18:45as a thing that will be pursued.

18:48Although again, that was not Pavlov's intent, but because of the revelation, by the way,

18:51they had spies in all of his labs.

18:53The Soviets were paying Lenin.

18:55They were, they were incredibly attuned to Ivan Pavlov, what he was doing.

18:59They ended up funding his stuff and giving him his own little scientific village.

19:03But, you know, he was kind of using them.

19:06They were using him. It was a, and I, by the way, I became, I

19:09corresponded with the premier academic historian of Pavlov, Professor Todis.

19:15Just so I was like, I need to understand who this guy really was.

19:18He's an incredible, like thousand page biography, this guy.

19:21And he's a professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins.

19:23Anyway, but I talked to him just so I could kind of get, you know,

19:26squared away. And I would ask him questions.

19:28And so Pavlov in the lab, there's a flood.

19:31Okay. And the flood in 1924 in St.

19:34Petersburg is, is, is just the whole city's basically just getting submerged underwater because the

19:38river's overflown. Well, guess what?

19:40The dogs, of course, are on the ground floor and they're essentially, and essentially in

19:43these cages, like kennel -like situation.

19:45And the dogs realize this is really bad, right?

19:49We're, we're, we're toast. And they're, they're, they're all barking.

19:52They're all barking. You know, you're a dog guy.

19:53I'm a dog guy. I get like, I get like sad just thinking about it.

19:55Me too. However, the lab attendants were able to just break in.

20:01So the dogs were, they, they, when they got in, and this is according to

20:04the records, their snouts were above the water.

20:07They were literally just peeking up, just able to get air.

20:11So you could, I mean, so they knew that, you know, that there was not

20:13much time left. They were dying basically, or they're about to die.

20:16Lab technician gets in, saves all the dogs, but here's what happens.

20:19These dogs have been conditioned for years.

20:22Rut, the conditioning in about, you know, a third of the dogs gone, just gone.

20:28All of a sudden now the, the, the buzzer, nothing happened.

20:31All of a sudden now, some of them that were particularly friendly are really aggressive.

20:37Some that are really shy are really bold.

20:39It flicked switches in these animals that, that endured trauma over hours as the water

20:47rose, brainwashing, brainwashing. And now you see, when you go into a Maoist thought reform

20:56cell, what do they do to people?

20:58They separate you from everyone else.

21:01They force you into false confession.

21:03They struggle session. They do struggle sessions.

21:06They beat you. They say you're not sincere enough.

21:08Even what you say, even when you say what you're supposed to say, they use

21:12a playbook of trauma to make you abandon what you had believed before and replace

21:18it with new belief. So this is, this is how this stuff all ties in.

21:22And now you say, well, Buck, why do we care about this stuff today?

21:24Yeah. Well, I mean, they're not beating you with truncheons, but you go to a

21:36Even Miraloo said the tactics are the same if the force used is different.

21:42Right. Interesting. The tactics are the same.

21:44Yeah. All right. So where do you think, why, why has.

21:48All right. Obviously, it's easy to go back and reflect on the 20th century, right,

21:52and say it's so obvious.

21:54When you look at all of those regimes, you look like you look at that

21:59manufactured delusion and the systematic breakdown of the human psyche, right, through these conditioning mechanisms.

22:07How does it continue to permeate?

22:11Like, would you believe is it is it possible that the educational system is the

22:16easiest conduit into the American public?

22:19Is it politics that does it?

22:22Is it the media that does it?

22:24Like, I mean, you are.

22:26This is a great question.

22:27And not just because I like you, but this is something I get into a

22:30lot. Think of this. Think of this as as you would the variations that occur

22:37again, whether it's I mean, the subtitle of the book, Manufacturing Delusion is my book,

22:41which everybody should go get a copy of who's watching this podcast because it's already

22:44a bestseller and you will love the book and you'll want to give it to

22:46people. But it's how the left uses brainwashing, indoctrination and propaganda against you.

22:51Those are all variations on a theme dependent, you know, with some some shifts in

22:56the tactics and the force used.

22:58But they're all trying to bring about the same thing, which is a molding of

23:03your neural processes in your mind and your brain.

23:06And so it's all dependent upon what what the entity is that you're you know,

23:12are you trying to make somebody are you are you operating within a totalitarian system?

23:17Society or are you bringing somebody into a cult or are you trying to bring

23:20somebody into a political ideology?

23:22I get into cults in the book, by the way.

23:24And which did you find which cults that did you think were the best examples

23:29of I mean, I'm Shin, I'm Shin Rikyo is wild, dude.

23:34It is. These are educated, otherwise completely law abiding and normal Japanese people who are

23:43paying thousands of dollars for drops of water that they're told are bathwater of the

23:48dude who then wants them to use sarin gas and kill everybody.

23:54I mean, it is just nuts.

23:56And but you go again, you get into the processes of how do you convince

24:00people? How do you you know, what promises do you make?

24:03How do you separate them from family?

24:04How do you know how do you do these things to what you know, psychologists,

24:09by the way, they have terms to do.

24:11They'll say it's coercive persuasion is the broad term.

24:14But so what are the different tools of coercive persuasion that are used?

24:18And the thing is, if you ever watch a documentary, I mean, like neither you

24:21nor I is able to go to North Korea, but North Korea is effectively a

24:25cult state. The whole state is a cult.

24:28It's just it has totalitarian force, but it's all built along the same ideas of

24:33this is a cult leader.

24:35Everybody does exactly what they're told.

24:37Everybody's brainwashed. And, you know, and that's what you get.

24:40And so, I mean, sort of the two takeaway concerns that I have that I

24:44want to understand is, one, this exists already, meaning that you have communist China where

24:51they control the thoughts of the Chinese people to a large degree.

24:54I mean, not entirely, but to a degree that is that is authoritarian, if not

24:58totalitarian. And some would argue, by the way, it's totalitarian.

25:01Right. But it's absolutely authoritarian mind control in this in the second biggest country and

25:06second biggest economy in the world today.

25:08So this isn't like, oh, but what if all the all the whales die and

25:12the skies, you know, turn purple or something.

25:14Right. This is real. And the other thing is that a mere lose warning, even

25:18from Rape of the Mind of the 50s.

25:20He's like, if you don't think that this can happen, meaning mass hysteria through mind

25:24control in Western, look at Nazi Germany.

25:27That's right. That's right. You realize Nazi Germany was pre -Nazi Germany, even after World

25:33War One, artistic, literary, free expression, guaranteed Constitution, everything else.

25:40The hub of thought, right?

25:42The hub of modern thought.

25:43I mean, one of the most sophisticated, some would argue, maybe the most sophisticated cultural

25:47and scientific hub in the world.

25:49And then it goes into the absolute grips of of evil madness.

25:53There was a process that people were put through that was it was done to

25:58them and done, you know, and people did it to others.

26:01And that is how that I mean, I view it as the biggest threat to

26:05humanity, Rod. So that's really why I wanted to write the book, which is called

26:08Manufacturing Delusion. And everybody should buy a copy of it.
