3:18Oh, it's pretty good. Other than the fact that we got a bunch of tornadoes

3:21coming through here later today.

3:22So we're going to get this podcast done before severe weather.

3:25That's our plan. Yeah, that's something you should definitely get done today then.

3:29Tornadoes? Do you guys get tornadoes?

3:31I didn't realize that. Yeah, the Mid -Atlantic gets tornadoes occasionally, but this is a

3:35little bit of an odd thing and they're saying it's going to be a strong

3:37storm. I guess we'll know by the time this airs.

3:51long, hard winter. I'm sure it was very hard.

4:15Okay. All right. Let's do it.

4:17You know, look, we like to talk about news that matters here on Normally, and

4:24I frequently don't think that the podcast Wars is news that matters, but of course

4:31it has now kind of taken a turn into actual possible real news.

4:39Over the weekend, Tucker Carlson said that he was being investigated by the CIA.

4:45They were reading his texts with Iran and are quote unquote framing him as a

4:51foreign agent. Now, everybody that heard that were like Tucker saying I'm being investigated by

4:58the CIA. Everybody was like, oh, because you're a foreign asset.

5:02That totally makes sense now.

5:04And the thing is that he has behaved so erratically and done so many weird

5:11things and flipped his position so entirely, but even setting that aside, people can change,

5:16whatever. He's had so many moments that made no sense.

5:20Like he had one recently where he said that Saudi Arabia and Qatar had a...

5:26arrested agents of Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, who were planning bombings in these countries.

5:33Now, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, Qatar quickly pushed back and said, absolutely not.

5:38This never happened. But now it's like, did he hear that from Iran?

5:41And that's why he shared this false news, because Iran wanted to get a piece

5:46of news like that out there and use their dupe in the U .S.

5:50to do that. Unclear. But things like that have really, you know, made the rounds

5:57in the last few days because of Tucker's commentary.

6:00But the thing is, because he lies so frequently, like when he lied about being

6:05detained at Ben -Gurion Airport in Israel and everybody was like, it's an airport.

6:09He went through security and VIP security at that where he like posed for pictures.

6:15The other more likely possibility is that Tucker is just lying for the hits and

6:21the clicks, which he is now want to do.

6:24What do you think? Yeah, I was going to say that's the there's a couple

6:27theories. One, that he's just making it up as he goes and that it will

6:31get lots of clicks. And it did.

6:33Two, he does. He's saying I was texting with Iranians.

6:38He doesn't say who, but he goes on in the clip to say this happened

6:43to me before with intelligence services when I was trying to set up an interview

6:47with Vladimir Putin. So it the analogy would suggest maybe it's someone very high in

6:53Iran who's who he's discussing things with, if that's true at all.

6:58But there's also the possibility that he's not being spied on, but that the person

7:03he was talking to was being spied on.

7:06That's the likely possibility there.

7:08If that story is true.

7:10Right. If the story is true that the spying was coming from the other end

7:13of the telephone or text line.

7:16And then there was a very sort of spy games theory that I love this

7:22theory. Yeah. That Trump knew that Tucker was enthralled with the Iranians and some to

7:29some degree and sending them information.

7:31So he brought Tucker in, remember, several times right before the Iranian strike.

7:35January 17th. Yeah. And you and I both talked about, well, like this would suggest

7:40we know that Tucker is going to lobby for not attacking.

7:43That's that's all common knowledge.

7:45And we thought, well, that suggests maybe he is staying his hand.

7:49And perhaps Trump knew that's what that would signal and was using Tucker for that.

7:54I'm not sure that I buy that the intel and the administration were aligned in

7:58that way and did that so seamlessly.

8:00But it is an interesting theory.

8:03I mean, I love that theory.

8:05I look, I didn't think it was true.

8:06I thought the whole time I was like, I think Tucker is just lying.

8:09But it was a real fun Sunday to see the possibilities that people are coming

8:14up with. Because if the Trump administration did know in advance that Tucker was talking

8:21to the Iranians and if they invited him to the White House to kind of

8:26send the signal to Iran that we won't be attacking, look, we're listening to this

8:29guy. It's an interesting theory.

8:33And also Tucker on his show a few days ago said, described what the USA,

8:38his country allegedly, did in Iran as a sneak attack and how wrong that was.

8:45And that kind of language lends credibility to the idea that the Trump administration had

8:51lulled Iran into a false sense of security by using Tucker Carlson.

8:57Is it true? I doubt it.

8:59There's also the fact with Trump that he's always sort of just the savant -like

9:04art of the deal guy who is always pushing people in weird directions and signaling

9:10weird things. And it all sort of comes together to his benefit often.

9:15Now, I'm not a Trump -playing 5D chess theorist, but he does have an ability

9:21to know who the players are, what they want, what everyone's signaling.

9:27Because he's been doing this for a very long time in other capacities, obviously.

9:32So, I don't know. Interesting.

9:35I mean, also the fact that Tucker is constantly calling everybody who doesn't agree with

9:41him an agent of Israel.

9:43Everybody's a foreign agent to Tucker.

9:45If he ends up being the actual foreign agent, there's something really just delicious about

9:50that. Yeah. Whenever I read a Candace Owens tweet, I think every accusation is a

9:55confession. Like, that's what it feels like to me.

9:57Yeah. There's a group of folks who I'm like, this seems like the finger's pointing

10:04back to you a little bit here.

10:06Yeah. And look, why would he come out with this, right?

10:09It either is to draw attention back to his podcast, you know, if there was

10:14a dip in conversation where Tucker wasn't mentioned for five minutes and he wants to

10:17be back in the news, or to get ahead of the story that might be

10:21breaking. So, we'll see. And again, I'm loathe to talk about these people because all

10:28they want is our attention.

10:29All they want is eyeballs and clicks, and that's all they care about.

10:33And I just don't want to give it to them.

10:36But this is obviously, if Tucker Carlson is an agent of Iran, that would be

10:42news. That would be news.

10:43Mark Caputo, who is a Trump White House reporter for Axios, says the story is

10:48not true. He says top admin officials say it's BS.

10:53And he's got through my head.

10:53he says put me on a hand.

10:53he says not true. He says he rules.

10:53Look, are they going to tell Mark Caputo that they're investigating Tucker Carlson?

11:00I don't know. He says, also Mark says, DOJ FBI is getting a lot of

11:06citizen requests to investigate Tucker Reifara.

11:11So who knows, right? Again, we'll stay on top of this and see what happens.

11:16But it's likely just podcaster nonsense where he would like more attention.

11:23And I've also said, I think he's having some sort of mental break.

11:27He doesn't look like himself anymore.

11:28He doesn't laugh like himself.

11:29I was a big fan of his.

11:31I rooted for him. I wanted him to succeed post Fox.

11:34He just fell off a cliff.

11:37And I know people are like, oh, just because he opposes the war in Iran.

11:40Like, no, I'm sorry. It's not just because he opposes the war in Iran.

11:43It's because he seems like a different person altogether.

11:46He throws out horrible accusations against all kinds of people.

11:50He says things that I think he would have just been shocked at before.

11:55He's just, he's not the same guy that he used to be.

11:58And it's not about Israel either.

11:59When he talks about how Jews need to get DNA tests or how he alludes

12:05to Jews as pedophiles or ties them into Epstein or says that Israel was involved

12:10in 9 -11, none of that is, quote unquote, criticism of what Israel is doing

12:15in Gaza. It's a completely other level.

12:17And it's absolutely insane. Like he released a clip from his own show just a

12:23few hours ago. And he said, why do all of our elected leaders seem to

12:26be devoted to serving Israel?

12:27And the people in that clip are like Rubio, Patel, Hegseth, I mean, Huckabee.

12:34This is not questioning Israeli policy in Gaza.

12:37This is not opposing the Iranian war.

12:39This is something else entirely.

12:41This is making horrific accusations against his own fellow countrymen, but also allegedly the people

12:48on his own political side, which I don't think he's on the right at all

12:51anymore. I mean, one of our first mentions of Tucker's, you know, most recent insanity

12:56is I was a big fan of Tucker Carlson's back when he was a conservative.

13:00I don't know what he is anymore.

13:02My breaking point was when he went to Russia and was like, wow, the technology

13:06and the living style is so great here.

13:08I was like, no, thank you.

13:09I'm out on this. I did a lecture at Hillsdale College last week while I

13:14was there. And it was on the fact that every day for the rest of

13:18our lives in a modern info ecosystem, your job is to figure out what is

13:22real and what is not.

13:23And it takes a lot of time and it takes a lot of thinking through

13:26what people's possible motivations are.

13:28One of the things I think the federal government could do is get serious about

13:31who's being paid by foreign entities because it would be nice to know.

13:34And people could make their assessments of those truth tellers given that information.

13:40But there's a broader podcast war going on that is just eating up hours and

13:47hours of talk time is not devoted to policy.

13:52It's it's, you know, Candace versus Ben Shapiro, Ben Shapiro and Megan back and forth

13:57with each other. Piers Morgan got brought into it somehow.

14:01Piers Morgan. And one of the things I want to say about Piers Morgan is

14:04that in in like Megan Kelly's defending Piers Morgan against Ben Shapiro.

14:09And it's like she asked at one point, like, how many people need to be

14:13removed from the conservative movement to make Ben Shapiro happy?

14:16And I would just like to point out that Piers Morgan was never conservative.

14:18Never, ever, ever, ever. I don't I don't really dislike the guy too much.

14:22I understand him for what he is.

14:24An entertainer. An entertainer, a tabloidy guy, a sometimes interesting thinker who will engage different

14:30points of view. And I'm fine with that.

14:32But he was not part of the conservative movement.

14:36The Ben -Megan dispute stems from Candace Owens going off a cliff in the wake

14:42of Charlie Kirk's assassination and Megan being sort of mystifyingly unable to say that's bad,

14:50that that accusing the friends of Charlie of being complicit in his murder is bad.

14:57And that's been going on for months now.

15:00And now we're to the point where Megyn Kelly and Mark Levin are going back

15:04and forth for three days fighting.

15:06And here's where we get to the news part, Carol, because I'm not going to

15:10the news. Yes, yes. I'm not going to dissect all of that.

15:13But here's the thing. Once the president jumps in.

15:15That's news. With a truth social, it is news.

15:17So he gets in to referee this thing between Megyn Kelly and Mark Levin.

15:21And you'll remember that Trump and Megyn Kelly haven't always been on friendly terms after

15:25that first debate where she asked him really tough questions in 2015.

15:29And I was team Megan for that, honestly.

15:31I thought tough questions were what you were supposed to be asking at the debates.

15:35For sure. For sure. And I thought he did not treat her correctly either.

15:38And I was mad at him at that time.

15:40So Donald Trump says, Mark Levin, a truly great American patriot, is somewhat under siege

15:45by other people with far less intellect, capability, and love for our country.

15:49Mark is tough, strong, and brilliant.

15:51Hence the nickname, The Great One, conceived by our MAGA friend, the wonderful Sean Hannity,

15:55after years of dealing with Mark in legal, media, and other capacities.

15:59It goes on and on, but he asserts that when it comes to this group

16:04of people who are fighting Mark, they are not MAGA, I am.

16:08And MAGA includes not allowing Iran, a sick, demented, and violent terrorist regime, to have

16:13a nuclear weapon to blow up the United States of America, the Middle East, and

16:16ultimately the rest of the world.

16:18MAGA is about stopping them cold, and that is exactly what they do.

16:21exactly what we are doing.

16:22God bless our military. Thank you for the attention to this matter.

16:26I love the attention to this matter.

16:28Yeah, I look, you know, he likes Mark Levin a lot.

16:32He likes Benjamin Netanyahu a lot.

16:34These people are not going to be able to bully Trump into dropping him, into

16:40dropping either one of those people.

16:41And I mean, good for Trump, you know?

16:45Well, and it's very interesting for him to lay down the marker that, and I

16:49think he's right, if you look at polling, there are influential people who disagree with

16:53Trump's intervention here. Many of them align with the vice president, which is another interesting

16:58part of this. Right, angle, yeah.

17:00But the majority of regular GOP voters are fine with the intervention, fine with the

17:06strike, may get moody later.

17:09They could certainly get more critical.

17:11Sure, of course. We could get more critical.

17:13Right, but as of now, it is correct to say the majority of them are

17:18with Trump and that the podcast war folks who are not are in, they're the

17:25outliers. And he's making that clear here.

17:28So about J .D. Vance, we don't really know where the vice president stands here.

17:33He has not made any public commentary on the podcast wars.

17:36He often pretends not to know what's going on, which I completely don't believe because

17:41he is the most online, like, elected official in the country.

17:46I would just say that there have been stories like J .D.

17:50Vance wanted the U .S.

17:52to go harder in Iran and stuff like that.

17:54I feel like those are placed to challenge this idea that J .D.

17:58is on the outside of the Trump administration.

18:00I don't know if he is or if he isn't.

18:02My own perspective is I hope he's not.

18:05I hope he is actually a part of the decisions being made.

18:10I hope he is in line with Donald Trump because he is the president and

18:14J .D. is his vice president and they should be aligned on stuff like this.

18:18I hope this isn't an actual crater that people imagine it to be.

18:22Having said that, we have no idea.

18:25Yeah, I think it's not an implausible or even hypocritical at all position for him

18:30to have taken that would be, look, I am less pro intervention than you are,

18:35sir. But if we're going to do it, let's do it very, very fast and

18:40very, very effectively. Right. So I think that arguing for that might not be a

18:44departure from his belief system.

18:46Yeah. But the only thing I would say about that is, do we think that

18:49Trump is like, no, let's not do it fast and do it hard?

18:52I know that story made no sense to me because of who Donald Trump is.

18:57Like if Donald Trump was George W.

18:59Bush, I'd be like, OK, maybe I think of George W.

19:02Bush as softer, you know.

19:04But I'm always going to give the benefit of the doubt to war fighters who

19:07have been in war and are war weary for that reason.

19:10Sure. They're like, hey, hey, hey, last time we did this, remember what happened.

19:14And I think that's a that's a fair take for him to have.

19:18Yeah. But but yeah, the it does.

19:20It's interesting to me that Trump is just like, nah, not MAGA on this one,

19:24guys. Yep. Good. I hope he continues to speak out.

19:29I hope he the other thing is, you know, I and I mentioned the the

19:33clip that Tucker put out yesterday about, you know, the people in the administration who

19:38care more about Israel. I mean, what he's really trying to say is Donald Trump

19:41cares more about Israel. And I wish he would grow a pair and just say

19:44it. Say what you actually mean, Tucker Carlson.

19:46Say what you actually mean.

19:48Yeah. Those invites might dry up unless they're useful to them getting information to someone

19:52else. Yep. Not sure he's going to be on too many real estate panels in

19:56Saudi Arabia getting paid. God knows what if he doesn't have invites at the White

23:07We are back on Normally, where the New York State Comptroller, Thomas P.

23:12DiNapoli, has put out a report about New York City government services for the quote

23:18-unquote unsheltered. That means homeless.

23:20He writes that New York City's unsheltered population increased from 3 ,588 in fiscal year

23:282019 to 4 ,504 in fiscal year 2025, a 26 % increase from pre -pandemic

23:36levels. And we're getting lots of results, right?

23:38Yeah, yeah, just listen to all the results we're getting.

23:41In that time, spending on services for the population has more than tripled, growing from

23:48$102 million in 2019 to nearly $368 million in 2025, a 262 % increase.

23:58It's absolutely bonkers. Like, there's just, how do you look at these numbers and think

24:04that this is okay? And the numbers come out to about $81 ,000 per homeless

24:11person in fiscal year 2025.

24:14I mean, that is, it's more than, Charles Smirkley on X points out, that's more

24:21than the median New York City household income.

24:23Unbelievable. And they're still living in the street.

24:26Smirkley also points out, he's a data guy, and he points out that New York's

24:30spending per homeless person is up 187 % since 2019.

24:34San Francisco, up 190%. Portland, up 430%.

24:39LA, plus 480%. An average of up 320 % since 2019.

24:46And I have to say, like, I was wrong about NGOs.

24:51There was a part of me that was like, hey, handing some of these tasks

24:55off to non -governmental organizations might be a better way to serve people.

24:59You need a lot of oversight.

25:01To do it with the government.

25:02Yeah. But it turns out it just kind of feels like we're subsidizing all the

25:05bad things that the NGOs are supposed to be helping with.

25:08And the NGO people are getting rich or someone's getting rich in the laundering process

25:13here. But it's certainly not helping the people that the NGOs tell us that they

25:17are very compassionate about. And I know there are people who do do really good

25:21work. But, man, this is depressing.

25:24Right. It just feels like what we've talked about on here, scams everywhere.

25:28Like, where is this money going?

25:30It makes no sense that they're spending this much money and not coming anywhere near

25:35solving the problem. In fact, the problem keeps growing.

25:38It's getting worse. Smirkley also says that the city projects that the number per homeless

25:44person will be $97 ,000 in fiscal year 2026.

25:48I mean, $100 ,000 per homeless person for them still not to have a home?

25:52What are we doing here?

25:54Sorry for all of you paying taxes.

25:56Like, it's crazy. By the way, that number's the floor because it doesn't include a

26:01bunch of other spending done on mental health resources and housing resources that are spent

26:05as well. Speaking of scams, you want to hear this one?

26:08This is from Gothamist, so not a certainly right -leaning publication here.

26:14A month after the NYPD reported a 152 % spike in reported bias crimes, hate

26:21crimes, in the city, the department has changed its reporting method to one that some

26:26hate crime experts say is less transparent and less accurate.

26:29In January, the NYPD reported 58 bias crimes across the city, up from 23 in

26:35January 2025, a jump the department said was driven largely by, wait for it, a

26:40spike in reports of anti -Jewish hate crimes.

26:43By the time police reported the figures for February of this year, they had changed

26:47their criteria for reporting hate crimes.

26:50Previously, the department reported hate crimes that were being reviewed.

26:53Now it only reports hate crimes that have been investigated and confirmed.

26:58You could make an argument for that, but you can't make an argument for changing

27:02it midstream because what happens now is that you cannot compare February of this year

27:08in Mamdani's term to February of last year in Adams' term.

27:13And several hate crimes experts tell...

27:16and academics tell the Gothamist that actually, yes, this doesn't really capture hate crimes if

27:21you're not doing all reported crimes.

27:24So way to go, New York.

27:27Yeah, good job. And I think that's the point, right?

27:29They don't want the comparison because the comparison is not going to be positive.

27:33And that's a real problem where you can't look at it.

31:25Look, I don't watch award shows, but what I do is go on the internet

31:30the next day to learn what happened at the award shows.

31:33So let me tell you what happened at the Oscars.

31:36One battle after another, which is that Leonardo DiCaprio vehicle that was a very lefty

31:43resistance fantasy played out. Yeah.

31:47I didn't see it, but if you haven't read Liel Leibovitz's piece about the movie

31:52in free press, you absolutely should.

31:55Liel wrote a hilarious takedown of the movie and how terrible it was.

31:59Yes. Well, and even, so it's a Paul Thomas Anderson movie who is a good

32:03director and, but I have heard it was not one of his better films, but

32:06it did hit all the sweet spots for Hollywood.

32:09It was named best picture one battle after another.

32:12And he was, he got best directing, best adapted screenplay.

32:15It won six overall. Sinners starring Michael B.

32:18Jordan got four Oscars. Uh, K -pop demon hunters got best animation, uh, film very

32:25deserved as well as best, uh, best, uh, song.

32:29And, um, I've heard the song once or 3 ,000 times from my nieces.

32:34Right. Frankenstein got a couple of wins.

32:37Uh, and then Jesse Buckley was named best actress for Hamnet.

32:41Uh, Amy Madigan won best supporting actress for her role in weapons.

32:44It's one that I actually have seen.

32:46I was going to say, have you seen any of these?

32:47I've seen zero. I haven't even heard of most of these.

32:50I've seen K -Buck Demon Hunters.

32:51It might be because I'm old.

32:53It might be, but it also might be because I think Hollywood movies have just

32:56gotten worse and worse and I can't watch them.

32:59I can't sit through them.

32:59They're terrible. I watch old movies.

33:01I am old. That's it.

33:03It's okay. We can be old.

33:05Conan O 'Brien hosted again.

33:07They did tributes to Rob Reiner, Robert Redford, Diane Keaton, Catherine O 'Hara.

33:11I think I heard that Robert Duvall was sort of given short shrift in the

33:17memoriam, and that's not cool.

33:20He's like one of the greatest actors of the 20th century.

33:23Okay, two clips I want to play for you so you can get an idea

33:25of the good and the bad.

33:27Here is the K -Buck Demon Hunters creator telling us that she's the first Asian

33:34person to ever win an Oscar or something.

33:37Here she goes. And for those of you who look like me, I'm so sorry

33:41that it took us so long to see us in a movie like this.

33:45But it is here. And that means that the next generations don't have to go

33:51longing. This is for Korea and for Koreans everywhere.

33:56Polymath, political math on X, did a chart where he wanted to look at every

34:02protagonist in every best animated film since the award was created in 2001.

34:08What he found was 11 of the protagonists were non -human, five were Asian, and

34:14five were white. So I feel like there are some protagonists who are Asian.

34:18And John Podhoretz noted that just a couple of years ago, and I believe that

34:22was a Korean film, Parasite won everything.

34:25Yeah. This isn't exactly rare.

34:29One of the sad things about being a progressive is that once you have the

34:32mic and you have your shining moment before the world, you have to declare that

34:36all progress before you never existed.

34:38Because it's important to preserve the fiction that we've never done anything for any other

34:44minority population ever. And I just, I think that, like, by next year is the

34:49K -pop Demon Hunters' win going to be gone from everybody's brain, and we'll just

34:53pretend that we're starting at zero again, because I don't think we are.

34:56On the other hand, we have Jessie Buckley, the best actress for Hamnet, and here's

35:01her lovely acceptance speech. You, Fred, I love you, man.

35:08I love you. You're the most incredible dad.

35:11You're my best friend, and I want to have 20 ,000 more babies with you.

35:14I do. I do. And Isla, my little girl who is eight months, who has

35:20absolutely no idea what's going on, and is probably dreaming of milk, but this is

35:25kind of a big deal.

35:27And I love you, and I love being your mom, and I can't wait to

35:29discover life beside you. Chloe and Maggie, you, to get to know this incandescent woman

35:41and journey to understand the capacity of a mother's love is the greatest collision of

35:49my life. It's Mother's Day in the UK today.

35:59So I would like to dedicate this to the beautiful chaos of a mother's heart.

36:07It's really nice. I feel like we are having a bit of a trend toward

36:11acceptance speeches by very famous people that include appreciation for their children and their families.

36:17Kieran Culkin is notable because he kept telling his wife, if I win another one,

36:21can we have another baby, having more babies, because he keeps winning awards.

36:25And now this lovely sentiment.

36:27By the way, I think anyone who's afraid of motherhood can look to this woman

36:32who is at the absolute pinnacle of her career and has an eight -month -old

36:36baby that it does not have to shackle you.

36:40It does not have to be a trap.

36:43And it stands in beautiful contrast to, who was it, Michelle Williams, that gave that

36:48speech once, saying that the reason she was standing before you is because she had

36:52an abortion. Right. Yeah. Like, nah, I'm not here for that.

36:57Yeah. By the way, I should mention Michael B.

36:59Jordan, who I do like very much, won Best Actor, I believe, for Sinners.

37:05And Best Supporting Actor was Sean Penn, who has too many.

37:08Why is he still winning?

37:11Yeah, I think families are back in.

37:13Disney had apparently a very popular ad during the award show, which showed a father

37:19and son bonding over the years on a Disney cruise.

37:22It was a very good ad, Mary Catherine.

37:24Yeah, it was very sad.

37:25In other news, there was some politics at the show, of course.

37:29Somebody called for a ceasefire in Gaza.

37:31I hope that lady gets her news updated soon.

37:35But, of course, very little was said, if anything at all, about the Iranians who

37:41are either trapped in Iran as this plays out with the administration killing and maiming

37:48people who oppose them, or the Iranian women's soccer team who have requested asylum in

37:55Australia, but now their families are being kidnapped back in Iran.

37:59And nobody's speaking out for them.

38:02Nobody's wearing a pin. You could really take a stand for them if you wanted

38:06to, so they don't have to go back to Handmaid's Tale.

38:09But we're not saying anything about that.

38:10Much easier to wear. you know, a Palestinian flag pin or something and call for

38:16a ceasefire that happened months ago.

38:19What are you going to do?

38:20Hollywood going to Hollywood. There's a couple of bright spots there.
