Hour 1 - Trump's Lion King Moment?

4/20/202637 mincomplete
0:00This is an iHeart Podcast.
0:02Guaranteed human. Welcome, everybody, to the Monday, April 20th edition of the Clay Travis and
0:10Buck Sexton Show. Said the date out loud, so I can't believe how fast this
0:14month is flying by. A lot going on.
0:18Trump was at a TPUSA event.
0:22He touched on a whole bunch of things.
0:25The MAGA doctrine among them.
0:28Something really interesting that I just want to put on your radar early so that
0:32you are sure to join us later on in the program for it.
0:36And that is Trump signing an executive order on substances like Ibogaine.
0:44Now, I am a little bit familiar with some of these psychedelics, which is what
0:51Ibogaine is, that have been used, according to many operators from the special operations in
0:58particular that I know, with remarkable success to help our warriors who have serious PTSD.
1:06We're going to talk to our friend David Rutherford, who is, of course, a former
1:10Navy SEAL. He's a member of the Clay and Buck Podcast Network, does a great
1:14show, the David Rutherford Show.
1:15He'll be with us in the third hour of the program at the very top,
1:18so that's 2 Eastern, to talk about how big a deal this Ibogaine shift is
1:25from the FDA, the federal government side, thanks to a Trump executive order, and what
1:29this means for so many veterans who have to deal with these demons from the
1:36inside left over from war, you know, have to deal with these traumas.
1:39And so Rutt's going to speak just about that.
1:41It's very personal for him because he has a lot of friends.
1:43Rutt's a combat veteran as a Navy SEAL, and he doesn't talk about his stories
1:48very often, but for those of you who are also combat veterans, he's the real
1:52deal, guys, and he has a lot of friends who are the realest of real
1:56deal when it comes to their military service, a lot of comrades in arms.
1:59So he'll join us to talk about that.
2:00But it was really interesting because, Clay, I know people have been pushing for this
2:03for years, and Trump finally is just saying, we've got to see if this is
2:09actually a modality that's going to cure some of, or even just dramatically improve some
2:13of our veterans who have wounds on the inside, then that's something we absolutely have
2:20an obligation to chase that down and to see where that takes us.
2:24So we'll talk about that.
2:25More on Zoran Mamdani, which is going to be interesting.
2:30I'm going to be in New York, Clay, later this week.
2:33Yes. And I'll come back with reports from the front lines about how it looks
2:37in Midtown and what's happening because I'll be in our studio there.
2:39How do you fund the New York City government?
2:43That hurts, you know? That hurts.
2:45Salt in the wounds, right?
2:46He's just talking right away.
2:47Yeah, we, you know, if you're a fall into certain categories, this is why Rush
2:51avoided New York. Rush avoided New York City like a lot of planes have been
2:57avoiding Iranian airspace after a while.
2:59He just would not even, would not mess, would not go near, because they'll ding
3:04you per day worked is the rule.
3:07If you are an athlete, if you are a traveling performer of any kind, so
3:11if you show up to do a sporting event, Broadway, radio, TV, they can hit
3:17you for the, for per day.
3:18And there's no, even a lot, some states have like a 10 day, okay, you
3:23can be here for 10 days.
3:24Nope. Per day, they will hit you.
3:25So we'll, we'll talk about this.
3:27And then there's other interesting stuff on the, let's dive into Iran straight away here,
3:33because I've been setting up a lot of stuff.
3:34But Clay, here is the situation.
3:37Trump sharing this out. I'm going to read this.
3:40I want you to react.
3:40Because I was feeling, I was starting to feel a little bit on the more
3:45optimistic side of things, more on the Clay side of this rowboat that we are
3:49in. And now the rowboat's feeling a little rickety.
3:52I'm not saying it's taking on water, but it's feeling a little, ah, and I'm
3:55feeling pretty confident about my, the ceasefire is going to end with an extension of
3:59the ceasefire prediction from the very beginning.
4:01Here's what Trump said. Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz,
4:06a total violation of our ceasefire agreement.
4:08Many of them were aimed at a French ship and a freighter from the United
4:11Kingdom. That wasn't nice, was it?
4:14Question mark. My representatives are going to Islamabad, Pakistan.
4:18They will be there tomorrow evening for negotiations.
4:20Iran recently announced they were closing the strait, which is strange because our blockade has
4:25already closed it. They're helping us without knowing, and they are the ones that lose
4:29with the closed passage, $500 million a day.
4:32Clay, I can continue this on later to get to more details, but I want
4:35your reaction to where this is right now.
4:37Are you feeling like everything is cool, brother?
4:39Everything's going exactly according to plan.
4:41I'm still very optimistic because here's what I think happened.
4:45I think President Trump got ahead of the deal that was supposed to be announced.
4:50Iran was not happy about the fact that he was basically taking a victory lap,
4:56and the reality is this.
4:59There is a difference between what can sometimes be said publicly and what can be
5:06said privately. Let me just put it to you this way.
5:09I'm not so much worried about the United States side of this buck, so let's
5:13put that to the side here for a moment.
5:15If you are the leader of Iran and you are seen as basically bending the
5:21knee in all facets to Trump, These have is for the ranked section ,下來.
5:24in the united states how can you retain power in iran i don't think that
5:30you can so what we're seeing play out in my opinion is trump is going
5:36to claim victory on the way that this war comes to a close and iran
5:41is going to claim victory on the way that this war comes to a close
5:45the trump side is less significant and let me explain what i mean by less
5:49significant trump's going to be in no matter what happens so trump taking a victory
5:55lap is potentially good for his overall approval ratings and uh for putting a bow
6:02on this uh action but it isn't necessarily hugely important to trump as much as
6:10everything getting in in line and work as we get ready for the midterms if
6:15iran is seen as losing in this negotiation all of the iranian leaders may get
6:21murdered by other people in iran who are trying to take power so to me
6:26what i see as this uh the challenge here is we have to give iran
6:32something so that the iranian leadership can feel like they are still actually leaders as
6:40opposed to puppets of america and so trump is not someone you remember buck when
6:46obama said we didn't need to spike the football on osama bin laden and they
6:51just jumped dumped his body at sea and they didn't really make a big deal
6:56of the dead body like we did it make a huge deal i think you
7:00could argue that just dumping the body at sea was kind of spiking the football
7:04but yeah sure yeah but look i i think we need to get trump not
7:09to high step into the end zone here uh to use the sports analogy wow
7:14you're that confident that you think that he doesn't want to look like he's smushing
7:19the iranian leaders face in it so to speak i don't know i don't know
7:23that trump can win without high stepping into the end zone and if i were
7:29giving trump advice here it would be you know score the touchdown and hand the
7:34ball back to the official to use the sports analogy we don't need to spike
7:38the football we don't need a deon standard style high step into the end zone
7:42where everybody's looking at you we have to give in some way and i don't
7:47know exactly what this looks like but we have to give these iranian figureheads the
7:53idea that they got something in this negotiation or they may not still exist uh
7:59but let me give it can i give you the other half of this and
8:01then clay captain optimistic captain optimistic he's going to give you his sense of where
8:06this is um the united states loses nothing in fact many ships many ships are
8:12headed right now this is from trump's truth social to the u .s texas louisiana
8:16and alaska to load up on oil compliments of the irgc always wanting to be
8:21the tough guy in quotes we're offering a very fair and reasonable deal i hope
8:26they take it if they don't the u .s is going to knock out every
8:29single power plant bridge in iran no more mr nice guy in caps they'll come
8:35down fast and easy if they don't take the deal i'll do what has to
8:39be done should have been done by other presidents for the last 47 years in
8:44caps clay it's time for the iran killing machine to end president donald j trump
8:49what say you i think all of that is correct and i think what we
8:54saw happen over the weekend is trump high stepped into the end zone and then
8:59iran said oh the strait of hormuz is not open and then trump said well
9:02we've got a blockade like we control everything and then we took an iranian ship
9:06we are the godzilla we are the big bad uh force here in terms of
9:13power right and so i think what's going on uh is iran is trying to
9:20figure out a way to save face and i think we have to help them
9:23and some of you are going to say why and the answer is because if
9:26we don't help whoever we're negotiating with they're going to get killed and uh and
9:31they're going to be seen as so weak inside of their own country that they're
9:34going to be wiped out and so i think that's the challenge right iran is
9:39in a much more difficult negotiating perspective than we are and president trump is pointing
9:44out something that i said that i didn't hear anybody else saying at all prior
9:47to us discussing on the show america is energy independent and we are making a
9:53ton of money in the oil and gas space and as a result um we
9:59aren't in the same position that we were in the 90s we aren't in the
10:02same position that china's in we aren't in the same position that europe is in
10:05we are in an incredibly strong negotiating perspective which is why we could blockade the
10:10entire straight of four moves and say if you need oil and gas come to
10:13the united states now uh the gas prices have started to back up uh and
10:19again i always have to say this it's unbelievable how many of you have to
10:24tell me exactly what you paid for gas every time i talk about gas prices
10:28we should just take calls for like the back half of the hour tell clay
10:31he's wrong about gas prices because you went to your local gas station and he's
10:34wrong gas prices have peaked they have come back about 10 or 12 or 15
10:40cents on average nationwide i think they're going to continue to fall as we go
10:45forward the panic is uh is resolved in many ways um i believe that we
10:50are going to have oil and gas prices that are very similar to what we
10:55saw on February 28th, right around $68 a barrel of oil and gas.
10:59I expect that we will see that those prices similar by the time we get
11:04to the fall leading into the midterms.
11:06That's my prediction. People can take issue with it.
11:08I think you'll all be paying on average about $3 a gallon of gas by
11:13the time we get to the midterms.
11:14And that's about what everybody was paying on average before the Iran situation started.
11:19So to me, Buck, this is a really kind of interesting negotiation because it requires
11:27that we find ourselves in a position where we can give an off ramp to
11:34Iran. And this is why I said when it comes to the nuclear dust, maybe
11:39we have to go take it.
11:41Because if we go take it, even if it's a negotiated taking, then Iran doesn't
11:48look to me as weak as if they just hand it back to us.
11:52And so we have to figure out how to give Iran enough of an idea.
11:57And I think unfreezing the Iranian assets is going to be a big part of
12:01this because they're going to argue that's reparations.
12:04We're going to argue we're just allowing them money back.
12:07And the funniest thing to me about all this is the biggest advocate that Iran
12:12is going to have is going to be the American legacy media because many of
12:17them are going to they want to argue that Iran, despite losing their entire Navy,
12:22basically their entire Air Force and us being able to blockade land in their country,
12:27save one of our soldiers and the fact that they basically could do nothing to
12:31us for the entire war.
12:33They want to argue that Trump lost.
12:35They don't really want to argue that Iran won.
12:38They just want to argue that Trump lost.
12:40So the funniest thing here to me is the biggest advocate for Iran in terms
12:45of the media perception of negotiation is going to be MSNBC and the New York
12:49Times, which hate Trump so much that unless I think I made the joke that
12:54he's going to have to hold up the nuclear dust buck like Simba from the
12:58Lion King from the Truman balcony for anybody to acknowledge that he actually did anything.
13:02Did you see that viral clip with the comedian, by the way, where he had
13:07a friend who actually speaks?
13:09I believe it's Swahili. Come on to translate the first line of the Lion King.
13:14It just went viral like.
13:15Oh, yes. And it means absolutely nothing.
13:16Like, well, yeah, look a lion.
13:19Oh, my gosh. Yes, apparently that's apparently what the opening of the Lion King song
13:25really is. So there you go.
13:28Who knew all this time?
13:29It all makes sense. But yes, I think look, Clay is feeling super confident about
13:35this. Meanwhile, the Iranians are shooting at ships and causing problems and the ships aren't
13:39actually going through the Strait of Hormuz yet.
13:41That isn't happening yet. So some of them are a little bit, but a lot
13:45of them aren't. So the Strait is not really open, everybody.
13:49It will be, I hope.
13:52And Clay thinks very soon.
13:54I think kind of soon.
13:55But I wouldn't want to be a ship captain right now trying to figure that
13:59one out. So we should say news wise, Buck, they're supposed to be meeting in
14:03Pakistan on Thursday. That's the latest, I think, because I believe that's when the two
14:09weeks is supposed to expire, if I'm not mistaken in my timing.
14:14So we will see how exactly that shakes out.
14:17In the meantime, continues to be very dangerous in, as you might well imagine, in
14:22all of the Middle East.
14:24And we're very happy to be part of the team that is helping to make
14:28people as safe as possible in Israel.
14:31I saw the work that they do.
14:32This is not partisan work.
14:34This is, hey, let's have safe, secure hospitals.
14:37Let's have as many different bomb shelters as we possibly can.
14:42Let's feed as many people who are in need of food and drink as we
14:46possibly can. This is what the IFCJ does.
14:50That's the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
14:53It is just taking care of people in need in Israel.
14:57And they do a tremendous amount of work for so many people who need all
15:02of the help they can get.
15:03Again, in Israel, you're constantly running into bomb shelters.
15:06Hospitals are having to be moved underground.
15:08All of this is incredibly necessary and important.
15:11And you can give $45 right now to rush life -saving essentials to the vulnerable
15:17under fire in Israel by calling 888 -488 -IFCJ.
15:22That's 888 -488 -IFCJ. 888 -488 -IFCJ.
15:30Online at IFCJ .org. That's IFCJ .org.
15:36Common sense never sounded so good.
15:40Clay and Buck owning the airwaves.
15:42Welcome back in Clay Travis, Buck Sexton show.
15:45This is Buck's favorite caller.
15:47All I see is Clay is wrong.
15:50Let's take a caller saying I'm wrong, Buck.
15:52Start off the week. Good.
15:54Deb in New Mexico. Fire away.
15:57What am I wrong about?
15:59These are terrorists. You don't need to be nice to those people.
16:03You take them out. Not only ground level, you dig down and get the roots.
16:07You don't give them a chance to have safe faith at all.
16:11They need to be slithering off into a deep, dark corner in shame.
16:17Deb, can I ask you a question?
16:18Deb, can I ask you a question?
16:19Deb, can I ask you a question?
16:19We'll be right back. deb important are you related to light him up linda by
16:23any chance i'm just wondering are you cousins maybe light him up no i'm a
16:28diehard trump supporter okay we love we love you deb i don't know if you
16:32know who light him up linda is but she has a similar point of view
16:34about terrorists that's all thank you for calling in deb's light me up let me
16:38just be clear i'm no great fan of the iranian regime all right but if
16:43you are high stepping into the end zone uh to use a sports analogy you
16:48are celebrating as you have success you are spiking the proverbial football i it yeah
16:55go ahead go ahead sorry sorry it makes it hard i think for the iranian
16:58leadership to remain in power so if we want to these people to be negotiating
17:04with us and we want them to remain then if we want a delcy rodriguez
17:09like relationship to me you have to give them an opportunity to claim that they
17:14have some measure of positivity associated with the deal do you sign off on that
17:19or you think i'm crazy on this um i i don't think we care at
17:24all about how the iranian regime feels sees itself or anything else and i don't
17:28think trump is taking that into account at all so i think i think you're
17:31approaching this the way that like if you were running the negotiation you would be
17:35approaching it yeah i think trump i think trump is ready not just a high
17:39step into the end zone but to ask the opposing quarterback's girlfriend out for uh
17:43for drinks i don't think he cares so my concern on this is that then
17:47you don't get a resolution right and i want to get a resolution it had
17:52it can be 10 favorable for iran but it has to be something there otherwise
17:57there's no reason that they would agree to any sort of resolution smart investors rely
18:03on a smart premise don't put all your eggs into one basket they diversify and
18:07they hedge because they know that you never know everything and if this applies to
18:11you and the way you view retirement you want to be safe you want to
18:13be diversified there's plenty of reason to put a portion of what you've earned into
18:19gold millions of americans already own gold as part of their retirement savings account whether
18:23it's a 401k or an ira over the course of the last 20 years the
18:27value of gold has increased over 700 percent i mean that's pretty staggering isn't it
18:31you can check that by the way you just can check online 700 in 20
18:34years birch gold group wants you to be a long -term gold investor too they
18:40want you to see their learn and earn precious metals event this free online event
18:44rewards you for learning the basics of investing in precious metals act now this special
18:48event only runs through april 30th you have 10 days left text my name buck
18:52to 98 98 98 to join birch gold learn and earn event text buck to
18:5798 98 98 unlike past leaders this administration does not apologize for american power we
19:05are not ashamed of american might and we do not hesitate to defend the american
19:11people which is what we've been doing for the last two months because iran cannot
19:16have a nuclear weapon it's very simple for years we were ruled by fools who
19:25let every third -rate country push us around and bleed us dry on trade and
19:30everything else they could get away with they took advantage of us on trade not
19:35any more than that but those days are over and they're gone forever trump they're
19:42talking clay about how he thinks everything's going that was at a tp usa event
19:47and he he certainly does not apologize for american power and and has taken some
19:53pretty decisive action in a whole range of ways but i wanted to get to
19:57one other thing that he said because we can start to put our um i
20:02gotta stop saying tom clancy because you know the modern tom clancy is our friend
20:06jack carr so we got to put our jack carr hats on here as much
20:09as i respect what tom did for me when i was a kid giving me
20:12were you a tom clancy reader what was your oh yeah first series like what
20:16did you love when you were you know 13 14 15 that that age range
20:20what were you reading uh i read every mystery novel on the planet probably at
20:27like 12 13 14 years old so i read the tom clancy espionage books but
20:33i read like sue grafton patricia cornwell um alex cross back in the day when
20:39he was doing the uh sorry the uh the alex cross books um the uh
20:44robert b parker books the of course john grisham era like yeah i was gonna
20:49say pelican brief that kind of stuff you probably like you probably like these handsome
20:53southern lawyers you get caught up in a crazy thin with the mob all of
20:57a sudden big government i read everything so uh so all those so yes like
21:02the tom clancy books um and then obviously i also read all the history books
21:07too so i i'm in like the 99 .9 percentile probably for most books read
21:12by kid from 10 to 15 years old yeah for me it was just back
21:17and forth clancy crichton clancy crichton i was living my life in the seeds of
21:22the bookstore all of the all of the crime by the way jeffrey archer books
21:26john jake's books like uh a lot of the popular 1980s era fiction you know
21:32mass paperback books i would have read very nice there you go bad guys books
21:37books actual physical books not just my book but actual physical books not just clay's
21:42book balls um actual physical books around you very important to have you very important
21:47to have very important for your kids don't let everything become screens and 30 second
21:52bites and people who are like oh my gosh i talk like this because this
21:55is how kids talk on the internet now you know they do this kind of
21:59weird sing -songy thing as part of the hook people shouldn't talk that way so
22:04there's a whole other conversation we had here but trump going full jack car if
22:09you will in terms of the planning here this is like something out of a
22:14novel he is saying we are going to just go in and take whatever nuclear
22:19remnants are left this is cut three hit it the usa will get all nuclear
22:25dust you know what the nuclear dust is that was that white powdery substance created
22:31by our b2 bombers those great b2 bombers late one evening seven months ago no
22:39money will exchange hands in any way shape or form and somebody said how are
22:43we going to get the nuclear dust we're going to get it by going in
22:46with the ran with lots of excavators because the b2s remember when fake news cnn
22:52said well maybe obliteration is too strong a word obliteration that's so deep we need
23:00the biggest excavators you can imagine but we're going to go in together with iran
23:04we're going to get it we're going to take it back home to the usa
23:06okay that's it he's saying go in there together with iran so i suppose he's
23:11saying with iranian assent uh that's that has not been agreed to yet but let's
23:19see a little different than the spec ops mission you and i were thinking about
23:23yeah well i don't buy in any way that iran is going to show up
23:27with us and just hold our hands while we take their nuclear ref not right
23:31whatever it is now here's my three part because there's a deborah who was mad
23:36at me uh here's my three part big picture uh goal situation that exists right
23:42now uh and bucks tell me if you sign off on this um we need
23:47the straight open with unmolested traffic able to transit and uh ingress egress everything right
23:54uh i believe we need the nuclear dust as trump puts it seized by us
24:01those are both things that we really want buck would you sign off that if
24:06i told you we will 100 have free and fair trade through the straight um
24:11and we'll get the nuclear dust that that would be a win for the united
24:16states beyond a shadow of a doubt like those two outcomes are the two paramount
24:20at this point in time outcomes for the united states is that fair getting the
24:25nuclear material that's left and making sure it's out is wide and the straight is
24:30wide open as well i mean people are it is fair to point out that
24:33the straight was open before all of this but getting that back to status quo
24:37yes that would be that would be a good those would be i would say
24:41the two u .s asset moves here are the two things that uh that i
24:46think iran could get when i say this is not spiking the football we unfreeze
24:51the assets of iran that is the foreign asset dollars of the iranian government we
24:58unfreeze them and the regime in power right now that is the newly elevated leadership
25:05which i believe we believe uh we have a strong relationship uh relatively speaking with
25:11these guys we get them to stay in power okay if they get two things
25:15regime stays in power that is there right now the replace replacement regime and their
25:21unfrozen assets and if we get the nuclear dust in some way i don't think
25:25they're going to hand it to us buck but we get it in some way
25:28and the strait reopens freely then to me we have won and iran gets something
25:34right to argue that they have won inside of their world and we get an
25:40agreement that to me is what a negotiated settlement if you told me right now
25:44clay you are you're the mediator and you're trying to get to a conclusion that
25:50allows iran to feel like they got something their assets are unfrozen and the people
25:54in power get to remain in power and it allows us to claim victory basically
26:00i think near total victory uh and then this whole thing is over so that's
26:05my solution big picture to what this victory needs to look like what this is
26:09the end of hostilities i'll actually bring in here a talkback from one of our
26:14esteemed listeners uh because this is the other other side of the equation i think
26:18clay this is talkback e it is sal from charleston south carolina one of my
26:23favorite places play it guys i'm in charleston i've been listening to the discussion here
26:28the fact is unless we get a regime change all this is for not because
26:32the first time we get a democrat administration and don't think iran doesn't know this
26:38we'll be right back to where we were they'll be looking at getting atomic weapons
26:43again they'll be looking at sponsoring terrorism and they'll be allowed to do that and
26:48they know it so we need some more sane people instead of religious fanatics in
26:54there okay this is my hold on a second hold on a second i was
26:58gonna say this is the the um bear case if you will right bull case
27:04bear case wall street talk this is the uh pessimistic view of it which is
27:09clay even if all you just laid out is achieved absolutely regime change with iranian
27:18oil flows opened up iranians going to start filling their coffers with a whole lot
27:22of cash again they're going to start rebuilding they have plenty of people for their
27:27military they just need to get the equipment the gear the russians the chinese will
27:31sell them whatever the hell they want they've learned a lot from what we're capable
27:35of this time around so they may change things up and if the same kind
27:38of people are in charge at best trump has maybe uh assuming he achieves everything
27:45you lay out achieved a five or a 10 year delay in this which is
27:50not nothing to be fair to be clear but how do you respond to that
27:54because i think sal does bring up the is this just a very expensive mow
27:58the grass effort in iran well that i don't disagree with his thesis by the
28:03way the question is are you willing to put american troops on the ground to
28:09overthrow the irgc because if you are not i think it is very difficult to
28:15do it remotely now maybe we can just keep taking out leaders i think what
28:20we have done so that is the question and the numbers out there in this
28:25audience buck i think you probably would sign on and agree with this the numbers
28:29out there reflect that the vast majority of americans democrat republican independent don't want boots
28:36on the ground because of what happened in iraq and that we could get caught
28:40in a quagmire in the middle east and uh we saw what happened in afghanistan
28:45we saw what happened in iraq that when we go in and say hey we're
28:50going to remake this country it does not work out in our favor and so
28:55if if the goal is to completely strip the irgc out of power root and
29:01branch i think the only way you can do it is boots on the ground
29:04now if president trump wants to do that then i think it's a highly risky
29:09maneuver i'm not sure how it would work i do believe buck it would extend
29:13into the midterms i think it's very hard to believe that we can have a
29:18situation where we go into iran and we take out the irgc and it's going
29:23to go so smoothly but by the time people are voting in november everybody's like
29:27oh this is a huge success and i can that leaves aside men and material
29:31i wouldn't even let you not that you would but i wouldn't even let you
29:34do a stake bet on this clay because the chance that we could land troops
29:37and quickly mop up the irgc and set up election is zero that's as that's
29:42a zero because what the irgc the irgc were training the most effective elements of
29:48the iraqi insurgency against they were writing the playbook for the iraqis to use against
29:54us in another country next door not even their own country they would just all
29:58of a sudden we'd show up who's irg i don't even know who irgc is
30:02but we would be getting our you know our people blown up i mean it
30:06was an absolute nightmare scenario so no there's no chance that we're going to do
30:09that so that means there's no chance we're using force to get rid of the
30:12regime the i think our caller would probably say well but what about the options
30:17to try to foment you know revolution from the inside or you know effectively a
30:22coup from the inside which in the iranian context coup plotting doesn't always work out
30:26the way we want it to but anyway um but we haven't been able to
30:29do that so far so i would say we've probably been trying that so that's
30:33why to me the solution is you have to rely on marco rubio and team
30:39uh and trump and jd vance and everybody over there that we think we have
30:45a more amenable negotiable rational uh leadership in iran now whether that's true or not
30:52i don't know you don't know unless you know until we have years of relationship
30:56with whoever the leaders are it's hard to know i think at some point we
31:01have we don't even have a ceasefire in the strait right now so just to
31:04be clear that this when people are shooting at boats and the boats aren't going
31:07the strait ceasefire is not really happening we're kind of in this weird intermediary place
31:13of like we've kind of agreed to it but it's not really where things are
31:17but they haven't blown up a tanker but we're and we're blockading their ships we
31:21say you know so that's still to be worked out um and then we're going
31:26to see where this is all over here i'm gonna tell you this who tells
31:29me i'm nuts buck i think you're gonna like this caller too come can we
31:32do you want to hold let's hold them let's hear let's hear from the clay
31:34is nuts chorus as soon as we come back and that is my friends we
31:38call a tease in this business it is indeed and as we come up on

33:10your podcasts. Welcome back in.
33:13Michael says I'm nuts in Atlanta.
33:16Michael, fire away. Hey, guys.
33:20I'm glad you took my call.
33:22Clay, I usually agree with you, but on this subject, I got to say you're
33:26nuts because here's what happened.
33:28You had just mentioned that this could be the same situation as Delphi Rodriguez.
33:33Well, this, you can't compare this at all.
33:37These people are terrorists. Now, if you unfreeze the $20 billion that we're talking about,
33:43Iran is only going to take that money and buy uranium from either North Korea,
33:47China, or Russia, or on the black market, and you've done nothing.
33:51You've gone back to the Obama era.
33:53Okay, so let me pause you.
33:56What is the solution in your mind?
34:00Okay, here's what you could do.
34:02You could unfreeze that $20 billion and use it for humanitarian aid that basically NATO,
34:08U .S., and Israelis go in and give humanitarian aid to the citizens of Iran.
34:15Can you imagine? Okay, but you're still having to negotiate with them.
34:19Sorry. Okay, but you said I'm nuts for saying you can't negotiate with terrorists.
34:24Okay, unless we wipe out the entire IRGC, it is inevitable that you are going
34:30to be negotiating with terrorists.
34:32So are you saying, boots on the ground, wipe out the entire leadership, put in
34:39an entirely new system of government?
34:42Because otherwise, you have to negotiate with the terrorists.
34:47Well, that, I agree with you, but here's the thing.
34:50We've been dealing with this since 1979.
34:52If you go back and you talk about the president of Iran before, Mahmoud Ajahnar,
34:58whatever his name was, he's not basically a hardliner like the Atollas.
35:04Okay, the Atollas want the nuclear weapons.
35:07The people don't. So, I mean, you have to have regime change and get these
35:12people out. Okay, so but then it comes back to what Buck said earlier and
35:18has been saying for a long time, regime change without boots on the ground is
35:22virtually impossible. So do you want...
35:24It's fully up to the Iranians.
35:26It's what the real is.
35:26It's fully up to the Iranians.
35:27It's not coming from us.
35:28So then what do we do?
35:31Okay, but let's say this.
35:33If you give humanitarian aid with U .S.
35:36soldiers, now you got boots on the ground disturbing, I mean, distributing the humanitarian aid...
35:41That's an... In my opinion, putting American soldiers in Iran to distribute aid is crazy
35:48because we'll get them killed while trying to give out flour and supplies.
35:52Michael and Atlanta, I appreciate you.
35:53I appreciate you started out with Clay is wrong.
35:56That's always fun. Clay is nuts.
35:57I'm actually... Actually nuts. Clay is nuts.
35:59I think it's just wrong.
36:00Yeah, no, that's even better, actually.
36:01That's a great... It's a strong start, but you went off the rails a little
36:04with the distributing humanitarian aid, unfortunately.
36:06So you didn't stick the landing for me with that one, Michael, but I appreciate
36:09you calling in. Clay, where are you taking us next?
36:11Do you want to talk...
36:12We should, before Rutt joins us, Rutherford, Dave, we should talk about the Ibogaine quotes
36:18from Trump and what he's done, but maybe latter part of the next hour.
36:22What do you want next?
36:22Yeah, we can talk about that.
36:23I was thinking we could dive into this Virginia redistricting vote is going on tomorrow,
36:29which is pretty significant in terms of what it could mean.
36:33And also, when is the Supreme Court going to actually give us their redistricting on
36:39basis of race case? And how does it implicate Virginia, Florida, maybe other states as
36:44well? We will talk about all that and more.
36:47And some of you can continue to call in and call me nuts.
36:50And we'll continue to update you on what's going on with Iran.
36:52Never too many of you telling Clay he's crazy.
36:56This is an iHeart Podcast.
36:58Guaranteed human.
