1:53And I just, you know, and as time goes on, sometimes, you know, as we

1:57evolve, whether we evolve in physically, mentally, spiritually, or economically, sometimes we leave certain things

2:04behind. Right. And I was, I said, I wonder if Joe keep moving his chi

2:10in the same direction. So that's my question to you.

2:14Well, sometimes it gets caught up in momentum, and you got to step back and

2:18just realign yourself. That's, that's definitely a factor.

2:22Like, sometimes I'm too busy, and I get too caught up in momentum of things,

2:27and you kind of, like, lose, like, why am I doing this?

2:29Like, what is the, what's the process?

2:31Like, what, what is the reason for doing all this?

2:34Because, but vacation always fixes that.

2:36Like, you take a few days off, you go, okay, now I enjoy it.

2:41Yeah. I feel the same.

2:43To be honest, I've been running around for, like, I don't know, for, like, eight

2:46days straight, and I like to kind of make sure I exercise, do my tai

2:51chi or something, or stretch my body.

2:55But I was telling my wife last night, like, yo, I haven't worked out since

2:59we've been moving. And, and, but I've been drinking every night.

3:02You know what I mean?

3:04So I'm like, I gotta, so today, this morning, or before I came here, I

3:09got up a little bit earlier, and I went and stretched and got all that

3:13out. And that's what made this question come to my head.

3:15But it was like, I wonder, like, as we grow and we become more and

3:18more involved, and we get in whatever it is in life that's given us, how

3:22we get in these blessings, but how far do we get away from the blessings

3:26that kind of made us solid?

3:29You know what I mean?

3:29Yeah, I try not to get as far, I try to stay as close as

3:32possible to, like, centering my body.

3:35Like, if I don't work out, like, just a couple days in a row, I

3:38start feeling weird. Just two days.

3:41Right. Two days, I just start feeling, like, yeah, crack, crack, crack, crack.

3:44I feel antsy, I feel irritated, just, I don't think, I think I'm thinking clear,

3:49I don't feel relaxed. I think I'm the same.

3:52Maybe for me, it's three and a half days.

3:54Well, what drives me nuts is, like, how many people out there, that's their whole

3:57life. There's no exercise in their life.

4:00Like, my God, you're doing yourself such a disservice.

4:03You're not a, your mind, not just your body, but your mind needs that.

4:10You need to blow out some steam and run the machine and stretch it out

4:15and relax it afterwards and recenter yourself.

4:19And if you don't do that, you're going to be anxious.

4:22How many people are dealing with, like, constant crippling anxiety all the time?

4:25And how many of those people don't exercise?

4:28Right. I think that in Shaolin philosophy, we, you know, there's qigong, right?

4:34And there's the qi travels through your blood.

4:38So you got to always continue to have the blood moving.

4:42Because the blood is the supply you have, but the oxygen, you know, gets in

4:47and oxidates it and just keeps it flowing.

4:49And when you do stretching or you do exercises or you build up your respiration,

4:54it actually energizes the blood, which energizes every part of your body.

5:00That qi travels through every vessel and every meridian of your body.

5:05And it actually does enhance you and revigorate you.

5:10A hundred percent. Yeah. Fires up your endorphins.

5:13Fires up your endocrine system.

5:14Everything just feels better. And it calms you down.

5:18I feel like human beings are almost like batteries.

5:21Like, you're storing energy all the time.

5:23But if you've got too much energy, it's leaking out of the battery.

5:26And you're not purging some of it.

5:31Your body has, like, human requirements for movement.

5:34And if you don't use those requirements, if you don't meet those requirements, you're just

5:40going to feel like shit.

5:41And I think that's a big part of what's wrong with society today.

5:45There's just way too many people that aren't doing that.

5:47And they're just tense. And their tense, anxious feeling and the mental health problems that

5:54come with that, it just spills over into everything else.

5:57Right. I got to agree with you.

5:59And I know that people that, like, my Sifu Xie and Ming, who, he probably

6:04works out, like, six times a day because he has to train.

6:07He has individual clients. Right, right, right.

6:10But I think Sifu is maybe 10 years, 10 years old, 10 years older than

6:15me. Look, 10 years younger than me.

6:17Right, of course. You know what I mean?

6:18Because he's just constantly moving that chi and exercising.

6:23He still could kiss his toes in his 60s.

6:28Wow. Babies could do that, right?

6:31Right. He still could kiss his toes like a baby.

6:34But he said something to me that I took just heed to for myself.

6:39I said, Sifu, why do you work out so much, right?

6:44He gave me two answers.

6:45He says, one, it feels good.

6:47It makes me feel so good.

6:49But then the other answer he gave me was that because in Shaolin, when you

6:54get up in the morning, you have to exercise, run up a mountain, run back

6:59down the mountain, do chores and all that before you eat.

7:04And he said, if you don't do that, you don't eat.

7:07And so I was like, well, that sounds like something from the Bible where it

7:10says that man should work to the sweat of his brow.

7:14You know what I mean?

7:14And I took that philosophy.

7:16So I don't normally eat in the morning.

7:19I would normally get up.

7:21I mean, I drink coffee now.

7:23So I've been drinking coffee about 10 years, I think.

7:26But I will have some coffee, some water, and bam -a -lam -a.

7:30I get into my exercise routine when I'm home.

7:33I think that's the best way to start the day.

7:34Yeah, I do the same.

7:36I don't work out. I don't eat, rather, before I work out.

7:38Right. I always work out first.

7:40Right. Because then the water is fresher.

7:44The food tastes better. Yeah.

7:46You earned it, too. Exactly.

7:48You earned it. It's just a good way to start the day, too.

7:50You already did the hard part.

7:51The most difficult part of your day is done.

7:53Right. And then everything else.

7:54And also, like, that difficult thing makes the mental difficulty of the rest of the

7:59day work smoother. Yeah, you ever—remember that old commercial, the Army commercial?

8:05Which one? It was like, we do by 6 a .m.

8:09Oh, yeah. Yeah. Some shit, like, we do before 6 a .m.

8:12what most people do all day.

8:14Yeah. It's like, back when you first—you know, when I saw that I was young,

8:17I was like, I don't know what the fuck they're talking about.

8:18But as a man, I'm like, you know, that's wisdom.

8:21Get up in the morning, get your chi going, and have a beautiful day.

8:30You force yourself to rise.

8:32The comforter of your bed calls you, but you go, fuck you.

8:34You get up, you get shit done, and you're like, I already won.

8:37I won today. Right. I've got a victory.

8:43I did something, and then— I'm laughing, though, because you say you told me to

10:51Now, that is kind of extreme for me.

11:00It becomes like a normal thing.

11:02How long do you stay in the cold?

11:03Three minutes. Wow. It sucks.

11:05But every time I do it, I almost don't do it.

11:08Every time I do it, I'm almost like, don't do this.

11:10I don't want to do this.

11:10Fuck this. Right. And then I get in like, oh, we're doing it.

11:14We're doing it. That's it.

11:14And then I take my phone and I set, I got a little kickstand on

11:18the back of my phone, you know?

11:19So I put the timer on there and I look at it and it's at

11:22a minute. So I'm like, all right, we're good.

11:24We're past the minute. Once you get past the minute.

11:26The minute mark is the tough part.

11:28Once you're past the minute, it's pretty easy to get to three minutes.

11:31You just relax. I only did one ice bath and it was, they had bought

11:37this Tibetan llama to New York and it was me.

11:41I forgot the brother name.

11:42We was doing this TV show thing and they were trying to find out, they

11:47were scanning our brains and see what would happen if we got in the cold

11:53bath before meditating, then meditate it and then get back in.

11:57So it was some science.

11:59And I said, yeah, I'll do it.

12:00I don't know why I agreed to it, but I did it.

12:01Right. But, uh, I got in that motherfucker, bro.

12:07And when I got in there, I was like, this is not the shit.

12:11I'm like this. And the host, he got in too.

12:16Now, I don't know if that was his first time or not, but he was

12:19younger than me, skinnier than me.

12:21You know what I mean?

12:22And. When I couldn't take it no more, around one minute and whatever, it was

12:30past the minute mark. I got the fuck out, but he was still in there.

12:34And I was like, I can't have this motherfucker beat me.

12:39And yo, I got back in.

12:41Nice. You know what I mean?

12:42And they got some footage of that.

12:44I think I stayed in, I don't think it was three minutes, but I think

12:47I really impressed myself because I'm super anti -cold.

12:54You know what I mean?

12:55I run hot. I stay hot.

12:57I'm the hot part of getting, you know, when my wife is cold, she just

13:01put her hand on me and I'm the heater.

13:04So cold is like something that...

13:06Yeah, I don't like it.

13:07Right. I don't enjoy it.

13:09But there's a little mind game that goes on.

13:12And the mind game is almost immediately like, oh, fuck this.

13:17You got to ignore that and just concentrate on breathing.

13:21So what I do is I breathe to a count of 10.

13:25So I do this one, two, three, four.

13:37And I just concentrate on the numbers.

13:39And then by the time I get to 10, it's basically like a minute and

13:43I'm relaxed. And then I just settle in there.

13:46It's just you concentrate on breathing and don't think about that party that wants to

13:50get out. Right. So I think I'm going to try a cold shower.

13:54It's really good. Cold shower in New York is great if you, like in the

13:58winter, because that's real cold.

14:00Right. That's real cold. Like that's like I used to take cold showers and my

14:03friend, Bob Caffarella, he used to do this at our Taekwondo school.

14:07He would take cold showers after training.

14:09And I was like, that guy is a fucking animal.

14:11And I tried it a couple of times, but I was a bitch.

14:13I did it like 15 seconds and I jumped out.

14:15But he would just stay there and lay in the cold, freezing cold winter, cold

14:20water and just wash himself.

14:22And I was like, this guy's an animal, man.

14:24I think my brother Kung Lee, I haven't seen Kung Lee in years.

14:28Kung Lee the fighter? Yeah.

14:29Yeah. I remember we was, because we did a movie years ago in China, but

14:35he was the cold plunger of the crew.

14:37Oh, yeah. He's ahead of the curve on all that shit.

14:42It's just, it's the mental thing is where it really, where it benefits you.

14:46And not just while you're in it, like doing it because you don't want to

14:49do it, but when you get out, you feel so good.

14:52Your brain just is flooded with all these endorphins.

14:54Right. You feel so good.

14:56And it lasts for hours and hours.

14:58I'm going to revisit that.

15:02I think there's like, there's numbers on the dopamine increase, but I forget what they

15:07are off the top of my head.

15:08But there's a giant increase in dopamine that lasts like two to three hours after

15:13you're getting out of the cold plunge.

15:14Wow. I didn't know that.

15:15I didn't know that. But I know you are, you're a long time martial arts

15:19student. And I think anybody that does martial arts for a long time realizes that

15:23it is as much for your mind as it is for anything else.

15:27Yes. Like it's not just a workout.

15:29It's a workout. But it's also like there's something about going through the motions of

15:34martial arts and training in martial arts.

15:37It's so, it requires so much concentration and it requires so much of your focus

15:43that the rest of the world just kind of fades away and the impact of

15:47it is relaxed. Right. Because of that.

15:50It's mental, physical, and spiritual.

15:53Yeah. It's emotional. Yeah. It's will.

15:57So, you know, there's a, there's an esoteric thing, you know, seven planes of energies

16:03or five stages of consciousness.

16:04I don't know if you ever came across these type of terms, but probably have,

16:08but, but sometimes we, we get stuck on a, on just the three dimensions, you

16:13know what I mean? Just three planes, you know, and, and you don't get to

16:17the emotional, you don't get to the will part of it.

16:19You don't get to the realization, the control, right?

16:23If you could get to realization, then you can control what's going on because you

16:30realize what it is. It's almost like you can now have the foresight of what

16:34it is. And then if you could get to that type of plane of energy,

16:39then the possibilities become infinite because you realize that, that you, like, you know, as

16:46they say, we all have a free will, right?

16:49But then you realize that the will can be controlled, right?

16:53You also realize that with a strong will, you can control others as well because

16:58some people are walking around with weak wills.

17:01That's how you start a cult.

17:05Oh, by, by having the strongest will.

18:39thinking is that so will can control you know i mean yeah but if you

18:44realize yourself and have that self -realization self -actualization you gain control over yourself you

18:51know i mean and control your planes of energy so we're talking about martial arts

18:54and martial arts help you achieve that goal yeah my uh instructor used to say

18:59that martial arts are a vehicle for developing your human potential yeah that it's so

19:06difficult that in learning how to get i don't like the term mastery because i

19:12don't think you ever really master martial arts but in learning martial arts the difficulty

19:17that's involved in that it expands your potential in everything that you do i agree

19:21and for me i i actually you know i always tell people on a physical

19:26level i don't know if i'm good or not to be honest you know i

19:30mean took up some hunger and shallon of course uh um a little bit of

19:36wing chung here and there but but i don't claim to be like a martial

19:40art fighter but i will claim to be a martial artist because of the mind

19:44because the way i think because the way it allowed me to think you know

19:49it's like it's like i have probably 20 books on tai chi and i read

19:53them and so i understand it the application of it like there's a meditation called

19:59the eight pieces of brocade you ever come across that one no so uh it's

20:04what's the word brocade yeah brocade meaning blockage oh okay so it's eight ways to

20:09unblock yourself like to unblock your chi uh one of the first ones of course

20:15you sit in lotus and you just take your thumbs and you bang on the

20:18back of your basically your medulla glanta i'll give me if you could touch this

20:23real quick if you don't mind back in your head yeah right here okay you

20:27see how loud that see how loud that is yeah right so you cover so

20:31you cover your ears and you bang on those drums first thing in the morning

20:33and it exactly and it opens up some of your chakras so that feels weird

20:44because it's loud it's as loud as it could be right yeah but point being

20:49made by studying all these different uh books is like the physical part of course

20:54is exciting but to me the mental part is even became more exciting the more

20:59that i can apply therefore i can apply it to my music i can apply

21:03it to business i can apply it to how to be a a better father

21:07and all those things versus uh me just punching and trying to break a brick

21:12you know right right right right yeah there's i mean that's tai chi right it's

21:16all mental the tai chi is a martial arts sorta i mean i guess like

21:21you would learn how to move your body better that could kind of help you

21:24applied in a self -defense situation but it's much more of a mental martial art

21:29yeah and i used to when i lived in san francisco i used to watch

21:31people in the park these uh old chinese people would go out there and practice

21:35practice tai chi i was like what are they doing i was a kid i

21:39was you know i was eight i was dumb but i was like what is

21:41the purpose of doing this all day right like and then once you do it

21:45a few times you're like oh this is not easy to do right and then

21:48in doing that it cleans your mind of everything else that's going on because all

21:53you're concentrating on is these movements these very difficult they're not stupid like they've been

21:58doing this for thousands of years for a reason because it helps them what a

22:02crazy thing about tai chi um um give you a little uh information about it

22:08that you may or may not know but the idea with tai chi is that

22:12if you master it or you have that control over it you should be able

22:15to move a thousand pounds with just four ounces of energy so the idea of

22:21them pushing constantly means that something that ever came to them that's they push that

22:27aside without even thinking about it right because just four ounces of energy can divert

22:32it's almost like tripping a giant i think it's great on paper an actual giant

22:40i don't care how much tai chi you know a dude is like a 300

22:43pound all -american wrestler he comes charging out you ain't gonna use four ounces of

22:47energy and divert him well i'm gonna argue that right okay the four ounces you

22:51use is just step to the side yeah everybody says that step to the side

22:55it ain't easy it doesn't work right it doesn't work they grab you right you're

23:00not getting up but then then another well i mean a fight is a fight

23:05that's a that's a that's a difference between a martial art and a fight right

23:08well it's also just the reality of physics you know i mean it's it's one

23:13thing if you're doing that to an unskilled person but to a skilled person really

23:18you need to know the skill that they're applying like you know what i mean

23:22like that's the difference between like someone who's practicing something that is great in theory

23:29but i mean it's not it's not just in theory like physically and mentally it's

23:34great for you but it's just it's not the right application in terms of actual

23:38hand -to -hand combat yeah i mean a fight is a fight i don't care

23:42um i mean in my opinion a fight is a fight i don't care which

23:47i don't care you know if you're the best boxer in the world that knock

23:54motherfuckers out like like like one of our greatest fighters mike tyson who wasn't just

23:59that he was a fighter he was a fighter right of course he had a

24:04skill set and he was a well trained but but in the peak of his

24:10fights i don't care how much somebody else trained when he got in the ring

24:16to fight they weren't better fighters they could have been better boxers better athletes better

24:21whatever so i think a fight and this is my opinion uh it's an instinct

24:25it's a you know like what you you know like when mike bit his ear

24:31right right that's a fight that's that has nothing to do with with boxing i

24:38think that was frustration you know unfortunately you know that was uh evander was beating

24:44him up yeah and i don't think he liked it evander was beating him up

24:47yeah uh professionally yeah skillfully in boxing but then mike went To fighting.

24:54Yeah. And fighting, like in MMA, you can't bite in MMA.

24:58You can't bite in no sport, right?

25:00Yeah. You ain't supposed to hit the nuts, right?

25:05In a fight... The nuts are one of the best spots to hit.

25:12My friend Eddie had an idea for a comedy sketch called Ultimate Sack Fighting, where

25:17it's just dudes, just the nuts are the only target.

25:23Yeah, it's amazing how vulnerable we really are.

25:30I mean, you poke in the eye in an MMA fight, the referee stops the

25:33time, and you get a point deducted.

25:34Right. But it's a very good technique in an actual fight.

25:42and train, but when it's life against life, a life or death, it's a whole

25:47other chamber of fighting for survival, you know what I mean?

25:52There's some horrible videos of no -rules fights.

25:54They have these no -rules fights in Russia and a bunch of other places, but

25:58they do them outside in a field, and these guys fight, and this wrestler gets

26:01this guy down, and he just shoves his thumbs in his eyeballs.

26:05He gets on top of him, and he just grabs his face and shoves it,

26:08and the guy's just screaming.

26:10He's trying to move his head away, and he taps.

26:12There's blood all over his eyeballs.

26:14Party over. Party's over. Yeah.

26:15You realize, like, how devastating that is, like, the pain and just that.

26:20And you know what's so crazy?

26:21The person who did it, like maybe the guy who got the chance to do

26:26it, it's not easy. And tell me if you agree with this, you could disagree,

26:30but it's not easy to do that either.

26:33No. I don't mean not easy that you can't do it.

26:36It's not easy for your spirit to do it.

26:38Right. You see what I mean?

26:40It's evil. Yeah, and so that's a whole other change, but it's like, yo, will

26:45you do it? Will you blind a man?

26:48Yeah, will you do it, right?

26:49And it's like, maybe you won't.

26:51But if he will and you won't.

26:56That's what I, that's when, my seafood says that about, because he doesn't train nobody

27:01how to fight. He said, I can't teach nobody how to fight.

27:05I could teach you how to build your body, how to build your chi, how

27:08to build some strength, but a fight, bro, it's different.

27:13There's no rules. It's life and death.

27:15It's like, and your will, going back to the will we talked about, your willpower

27:20has better be strong to survive.

28:47breaking glass. I used to scream.

28:51Like, because I was, and I realized that I had so much anger in me

28:57that, you know, I couldn't really get it out.

29:00I was kind of hulkish in a way, like Bruce Banner or some shit, right?

29:05But then through music, it started to come out, and it started to come out.

29:09And by the time I got to Wu -Tang Forever, a lot of my anger

29:16was in the song. If you want beef, then bring the Rockers.

29:22And like all that stage and all that energy.

29:24So it really helped me.

29:25And then I realized, bringing up today to my new film, I'm watching it, and

29:31I'm just like, okay, once again, I took all the anger and I put it

29:37into the art. You know what I mean?

29:39There's actually a character in the film, his name is Unique.

29:46Did you catch that when you saw the piece?

29:48Unique is the name of old Dirty Bastard.

29:52His original name was A -Song Unique.

29:54Ah. And so that was my way of giving homage to him by naming the

30:01lead character of my new film, Unique.

30:04And it says in the film, he says, you got a problem with anger management.

30:10He says, yeah, I'm working on that.

30:13And what I love about the art of it is that the problem that he

30:19had with anger management was his reaction.

30:23Like a lot of us, we just react too much.

30:25We react before we think, right?

30:29Because they say a man could think seven times before he reacts.

30:32That's how fast your mind could move, but we go on that first impulse.

30:35But this character, he keeps, he holds the anger until one morning he's at a

30:43veteran home, right? And he's sitting there and he's having breakfast and he has this

30:48can, right? You see this thing, right?

30:50Yeah, that's how I've seen it.

30:51And he's like, he digs the spoon in there and it's like fucking, there's nothing

30:54in it. Like it's not even, it's like one spoon of chocolate in it.

30:57And he gets what? Angry.

30:58And he bangs it. Boom!

31:03But then it took an old man that was settled to tell him...

31:12And then you notice that character from that, then he calmed down, he started reading

31:16to the kids. Yeah. So, and that was kind of me taking some of my

31:21personality, some of you, some of Old Dirty's personality, some of the personalities that I

31:24see in my community, and putting it into this character, this, this say like, yo,

31:29sometime, yo, calm down, listen to the wisdom of your elders, right?

31:38you ever like, come across some old person, whether it's a homeless guy, a devastated

31:42guy, your uncle, somebody, that you kind of didn't look up to in no way,

31:49just kind of neighbors, but then they say something to you that's profound and changed

31:57I mean, I've definitely gotten a lot of advice from old timers, but definitely people,

32:03especially people that have done a lot of things, you know?

32:06People that have accomplished things and made mistakes and recovered from their mistakes.

32:11Right. Yeah. I mean, actually, because I was maybe 11, and there was a dope

32:20fiend that was dating my aunt, and he was at the table and shit, and

32:26he was like nodding, but he was just, he was kind of in the chamber,

32:30bro. You know, you know kids, we're looking at this guy and shit, and he

32:35said something about like, you know, I don't care, man, you got to get knowledge,

32:40man, you got to get knowledge, man, the gods is right, man, you got to

32:44get knowledge. What happened was he had knowledge of self, I guess, back before the

32:59drugs hit him, and now he's like dead, and he was like, he was just

33:03like, you got to get knowledge, the gods are right, the gods are right.

33:06And so what was he on?

33:08What was the drug of choice?

33:09He was on fucking, he shot that shit up.

33:12Heroin? Yeah, he was on heroin.

33:14That's the old days back when they shoot it.

33:16Yeah. Now everybody's on pills.

33:18Right. I never, I never, I don't know about that.

33:20I don't know about it either, but I mean, I don't know about it personally,

33:23but that's, it's essentially what oxycodone is.

33:26All those pain pills that you see, all these people dying of.

33:29Right, opioids. Yeah, opioids, yeah.

33:31The number one problem, I mean, I think the deaths in America, it's upwards of

33:3770 ,000 a year. I know it's crazy.

33:40That's crazy. Yeah. Just from the, just from overdosing on pills.

33:44Yeah, and most of it happened because of the Sackler family.

33:48The what? The Sackler family, this one family that convinced people that taking these incredibly

33:55potent opioids, did you ever see that Netflix docu -series, Painkiller?

34:00I didn't see that one.

34:01It's really good. It's all about the Sackler family.

34:04It's, Peter Berg made it.

34:06Same guy, I mean, you know Peter?

34:08I know Peter, yeah. He's great.

34:09He's great, yeah. Lone Survivor, made a bunch of excellent movies.

34:12He's great. He made this documentary on documenting how, well, it's not a documentary, a

34:19docudrama series or recreation, showing how this one family, they wanted to figure out a

34:27way where they could sell opioids to everyone.

34:29And the way they did it was like giving people pain management tools, giving people

34:35medication that you could be on forever.

34:38And they made it and they pushed it through these different doctors and they had

34:43all these hot ladies who were representatives of the pharmaceutical drug companies that come to

34:47the doctor and they were the reps that would come and sell the things.

34:51Yeah, I mean, really. And they were all financially incentivized to sell it and they

34:57tried to pretend that it wasn't addictive and they lied about that.

35:00And they got who knows how many thousands and thousands and thousands of people ruined

35:05their lives because of it.

35:06And like I said, 70 ,000 die every year just in America, just from opioids.

35:11That's crazy, bro. From overdoses.

35:13I mean, and how many more would there be of that if it wasn't for

35:16Narcan? That's the counter, right?

35:19Yeah, that's the stuff that the EMTs give you.

35:21If they find you overdosing, they give you Narcan and it kills it and brings

35:24you back to life. And that one family, you know, no one's gone to jail.

35:30No one's gone to jail.

35:32I mean, I don't even know how much they've been fined.

35:35But if it wasn't for what they did, and again, well documented in that Netflix

35:41series, it's horrific, man. It's really terrifying because it's not just the people that died,

35:47the people that are addicted.

35:47It's all the family members that were affected by them, all the children of those

35:51people and what happened with their lives, all the spouses and the brothers and sisters

35:55of those people and what happened with their lives.

35:58That's crazy. When you were saying that, the imagery in my head was that scene

36:03in American Gangster when it was like Thanksgiving and they showed Frank Lucas at the

36:11table with his whole family.

36:13They had a nice spread of food.

36:15And then the camera went and showed all the families that was hooked on the

36:20Blue Magic drug. They had like the lady dying over here, the kid looking at

36:25her mother dead. So the difference, I guess, that's the image that came to my

36:32head when you said that.

36:32But I guess the difference is in that particular case, somebody goes to jail and

36:37pays the price for the crime.

36:39But in this particular case, you're saying that nobody went to jail.

40:30was like, I don't need these.

40:33Like I didn't fill them, but I'm like, this is not, but this guy was

40:37giving me two different opioids to take.

40:40You would have been, he would have had, you would have went back.

40:43I probably would have been hooked.

40:44I mean, I know a lot of people that got hooked, man.

40:47I'm not, I'm, I'm under no illusion that I'm stronger than those people that I

40:51would have figured out a way to not get hooked.

40:53So many people that I know got hooked.

40:55So you're saying like, let me just go back on this.

41:05an asthma inhaler. Yeah. When I get, when I get it, cause I had asthma

41:22at you, the doctor basically sling gave you some free shit to kind of have

41:59I'm like, how much worse?

42:01Cause right now I don't feel anything.

42:02It's like nothing. It's like mildly uncomfortable because I have these tubes stuffed up my

42:07nose. Right. But this is not, this doesn't require heroin.

42:10This is crazy. I'm not laughing at you.

42:13I'm laughing. I'm just, but it is kind of nuts.

42:16It's kind of financially incentivized.

43:16When you hear some dark shit, I was reading about this doctor that was an

43:20oncologist. So he's dealing with cancer patients and he was giving chemotherapy to people that

43:25didn't have cancer because it would get him more money.

43:28you kind of fucked me up with that.

43:31Yeah. Then he kind of hit my emotion because I just lost my brother to

43:34cancer, my brother power. yeah i'm sorry to take a moment i'm sorry to hear

43:41that yeah it's one of the most profitable um medications unfortunately for physicians well not

43:49unfortunate look if it saves your life that's wonderful but the reality is this one

43:54doctor that i'm discussing this one doctor decided that he was going to get paid

43:58more by just giving chemotherapy to people that didn't have cancer so he diagnosed a

44:04bunch of people with cancer they didn't have it said oh unfortunately you have cancer

44:08the good news is we get you on chemotherapy right away we think we can

44:11kick it and they were regular people with nothing wrong with them and these this

44:15fucking guy gave him poison you know how much the chemo costs it's very expensive

44:19yeah it's about 30 to 60 grand a hit yeah i'm not i'm not surprised

44:26and the doctors profit off of that it's one of the most profitable medications that

44:31doctors prescribe unfortunately and look most doctors would never fucking imagine doing that in a

44:36million years but this one doctor like his his thought process was hey this is

44:41how i get paid you know i'm dealing with all this overhead i'm dealing with

44:46all this liability insurance i'm dealing with medical school bills i'm dealing with all this

44:51fuck this i'm just gonna start prescribing a little bit of chemotherapy here and there

44:55to people that don't actually have cancer and i don't know how he got caught

44:58i don't know what happened but i think it was just they got him there

45:01was some red flag yeah they got him he's in jail there was some red

45:05flag where they noticed like why are so many people getting cancer with this one

45:10doctor like why is his number so high it doesn't it's not representative of the

45:14percentage that yeah right yeah that's crazy bro but that's what that's what's hard to

45:19imagine is that money would incentivize someone to tell a person like how many people

45:26just commit suicide because they think they're dying of cancer and they go fuck i'm

45:30going on i don't want to do this i don't want to suffer i'm just

45:32going to fucking go out on my own terms you know yeah well how many

45:36people how many people's lives did that ruin well i don't well that's first one

45:41that was trouble i had i had to kind of emotionally rebound from that because

45:45it's just you kind of made me think like yeah i don't know like like

45:49you know we don't have the answer to shit you know i mean and things

45:53happen in life and sometimes you just like you know but i i do have

45:57instinct and i always i you know i just felt that something wasn't uh i

46:02don't know i won't even go there but you said that money why would that

46:07why would he do it for the money it's like yo everything is for the

46:10money bro motherfuckers is doing you know cash rules everything around me well you know

46:17i mean the money yeah dollar dollar bill and people were stuck on that you

46:20know i mean the the goal hopefully because we live in a capitalist society well

46:25but the goal should be that cash doesn't rule you money shouldn't rule you right

46:34to need that there ain't nothing given here but but it doesn't surprise me you

47:00but i i had the the this family uh they are they are answer that

47:06their ancestors are from congo and in the congo they trace their ancestry back to

47:13the leopold days and you think about the leopold days millions of africans were mined

47:21chopped off their arms and shit all because the gag was they wanted them to

47:27work and to get the rubber from the rubber tree so the rubber at one

47:33point became the main gold of the world right and and king leopold went over

47:40to congo and you get tarzan out of this shit all right that's the that's

47:43the the fictional story but he goes over and i think they said at minimum

47:49two million people but i think it's five million that were just mined or killed

47:59just for the economic profit of what those rubber trees was offering to uh western

48:07civilization that's happening right now with cobalt i had this guy said darth kara on

48:12the podcast uh he wrote a book jimmy do you remember what the name of

48:15that book was his uh book on cobalt mining in the congo so cobalt is

48:21a critical mineral that's used in cell phone batteries yeah and many electronics and uh

48:26that is cobalt red the blood of the congo powers our lives it's a very

48:32disturbing conversation and he had he snuck in uh cameras and got some footage of

48:38these people doing what you know you think that this stuff is mined in some

48:44sort of industrial process look at this this is how these people are mining and

48:48you've got women who are uh have babies on their backs and all this cobalt

48:53that they're knocking out of the ground is completely toxic some of them just have

48:58like a bandana over their mouth that they're using to protect themselves from but look

49:02how deep that is with human beings that are just pulling cobalt they live on

49:07dirt floors they they live at the lowest level poverty imaginable they don't have clean

49:13water they don't have good food and they are pulling out a mineral that's essential

49:19to the most technologically sophisticated aspect of our society which is our connectivity through the

49:25internet through cell phones and this is at the which is kind of crazy if

49:28you think of like the most technologically sophisticated aspect of our society if you follow

49:34it all the way down to the very bottom of the food chain you've got

49:38slave labor and that's a giant percentage of the cobalt that's in our cell phones

49:44and our electronics is coming out of this place you know so i've never seen

49:49that before but a lot of them are running by China yeah and it's it's

49:53very scary man I've never seen it but but I wrote a lyric that touches

55:47have something else that's more dense well that's what yeah cobalt's a critical component in

55:52lithium batteries right that's crazy yeah lithium ion batteries what is it what is uh

55:59like oppo there's a bunch of these new chinese companies that have cell phones that

56:04have much Or battery, like, instead of, like, a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra has a

56:135 ,000 milliamp battery in it.

57:52Yeah. Like, like, in Alaska, right, there's a pipeline that goes through Alaska.

57:59Sure. But the citizens of Alaska, they get a royalty for that.

58:08trillions, and I got all these people, give them more royalty.

58:21But this is also why they want illegal immigration.

58:24That's part of the reason why they like illegal immigration is because you don't have

58:27paperwork. You don't have to pay people what they're supposed to get paid.

58:35So it seems like one of the reasons for utilizing this new technology is because

58:41it's not using as much cobalt.

59:49They find them in these places where people are really poor.

59:52And the people that live there, they don't benefit from it.

59:54Their lives don't get any better.

59:55In fact, they get worse because they get poisoned.

59:57Well, the thing that, but let me add some wisdom to that.

1:00:02The people got to realize that they are not poor, right?

1:00:06Because if that is valuable and you're standing on it, then you're standing on value.

1:00:11Well, that's why they keep them poor, because they can't organize them.

1:00:15But think about the Holy Quran for a moment, right?

1:00:17Let me go here for a little spiritual here, right?

1:00:20So, in the Holy Quran, it mentions that, you know, if the Muslims were to

1:00:26do what they was going to do, that they would have many wells, right?

1:00:31Because, you know, they live in the desert, basically, right?

1:00:34And it says they're going to have abundant of wells.

1:00:38It's not an abundant of water wells in the Middle East, right?

1:00:43And these are people that are living nomadic, economically, not really at the level of

1:00:51the rest of the world.

1:00:52But it's a prophecy telling them that they're going to have wells.

1:00:55But what kind of wells they end up having?

1:00:57Oil. Oil wells, right? And so now, all of a sudden, they become the most

1:01:03richest small region in the world.

1:01:07Right. So the promise is fulfilled, right?

1:01:10But the gag is that the people got to realize sometimes where you stand, where

1:01:14you stand on your land, you know what I mean?

1:01:18The value of it, as the Bible would say, yo, work to the sweat of

1:01:23your brow to dig and plow and make your land valuable.

1:01:28But now, if you—so if—I'm just saying that the people where they're going to get—whatever

1:01:33they're going to get, bro, okay?

1:01:34I don't care if you're going to get some berries in the Amazon.

1:01:37If the berries is worth money, then the dude who got all the berries got

1:01:40to realize that, yo, bro, let's make a deal.

1:01:43But it seemed like that ain't happening.

1:01:48And the reason why it's not happening is because you have enormous corporations that come

1:01:51in from other countries. They get contracts, and they pay off the people that are

1:01:56the leaders of these countries or the people that are the leaders of the military.

1:01:59And then those people keep these people oppressed.

1:02:03And that's what—I mean, it's the people that are running these countries that are making

1:02:09sure that these people don't get paid what they deserve so that they can keep

1:02:13them working there for slave wages.

1:02:14So they keep their profits as high as possible.

1:02:17They also keep the options as low as possible.

1:02:19These people don't— have any options right if you're living in the congo and you're

1:02:23you're near where these cobalt mines are what are your other options right you know

1:12:09John David Washington was his first feature film as well.

1:12:13Um, and then my third film was called Cutthroat City, which I didn't write, um,

1:12:17just once again a high gun as a director.

1:12:20And in that film, I had Shamik Moore as the lead actor and I kind

1:12:26of like fell in love with his talent.

1:12:27So that's why he was in Cutthroat City.

1:12:31He plays Raekwon and now he's the star of my new film.

2:11:15we did so so so this so this particular film is actually coming through my

2:11:19own distribution company called 36 cinema and i think we did a deal with the

2:11:24uh theaters that they can have at least 30 days a lot of people were

2:11:28doing 17 days in the theaters or 21 days and cinema is suffering because of

2:11:34that because why would go to the theater if i got it at home you

2:11:37know i mean and and home is of course a great place to watch a

2:11:41movie but when you're making a movie right you're making it for the theater we

2:11:46haven't tv is made for home but cinema is made for cinema like we haven't

2:11:51um what can i say like the sound the color the framing like i use

2:11:56anamorphic lenses what does that mean anamorphic like the lenses of the 50s where you

2:12:01fucking get this whole fucking scope you know what i mean and so yeah you

2:12:06can watch it on your phone what is the difference with an anamorphic lens and

2:12:10a regular lens a regular lens would be uh the way the way the way

2:12:13it bends the light in all reality so so like you could have like uh

2:12:1716 .9 okay see that's so that's most lenses are spherical now that's that right

2:12:24which is cool right but look at anamorphic it's way it's it's it's the way

2:12:29it controls the light way the subject is happening and so it kind of gives

2:12:33you more of a cinematic feel well your focus it's certainly like a little more

2:12:37blurry in the background yep yeah okay and it kind of it could it's way

2:12:44it's compressing that light differently and so you with this lens do you do everything

2:12:50on film or is it digital i actually shot this on digital um so yeah

2:12:56so i mean i'm in the digital age so i did shoot digital but i

2:13:00did um we did make 35 millimeter prints of the movie oh so if you

2:13:05are so if you're in california and you would go to the theater called the

2:13:08vista have you ever been to the vista no cool theater where's that i think

2:13:12it's in los feles or some shit like that okay i'm bad at my hollywood

2:13:17neighborhoods i'm like i'm still a new yorker right i get it but um the

2:13:21vista theater will show the film on 35 millimeter for like two weeks it'll be

2:13:25there starting may 1st so if you want to see it yeah if you want

2:13:28to see in 35 millimeter oh there you go the vista i love this guy

2:13:48the way it looks to you when you see it on 35 millimeter versus digital

2:13:51well it's i think the 35 millimeter kind of it makes the colors a little

2:13:57more richer and darker like kind of how how how the 70s films look and

2:14:02even up to the 80s um the digital one that because i've watched my film

2:14:07in both formats this the digital was more brighter and actually more familiar now to

2:14:11us right we're accustomed to it we're accustomed to it um but um when i

2:14:16played it 30 on april 22nd i had a in fact i want to talk

2:14:20about that a little bit if you don't mind but on april 22nd we had

2:14:24our premiere in california on 35 millimeter and it was my first time seeing it

2:14:29on 35 millimeter i mean so and it felt it felt very nostalgic i felt

2:14:35like i was back it felt like a movie only right i mean not not

2:14:41like a movie and a tv show or a movie it felt only like a

2:14:46movie the only a movie experience the flickering uh when you when you you know

2:14:50when you're doing 35 millimeter you need a you know a real camera right and

2:14:56so the light is going from this camera from this one then they got to

2:14:58switch the real from this from this and it's like it's a certain thing that's

2:15:02happening a certain pacing a certain grand granular thing that's happening that for me for

2:15:07my film it felt almost like an honor to watch it like that oh that's
