2:42Thank you guys for being here.

2:43Today is April 20th, 2026.

2:45Tomorrow is the special election in Virginia for the referendum on congressional redistricting in order

2:52for that referendum to be defeated.

2:54And people in Virginia have a voice on who they want representing them.

2:57They need to vote no, and they need a very large turnout.

3:01So if you haven't voted, make sure you vote, make sure your spouse votes, make

3:04sure your friends or children or whomever vote.

3:08Very important for the future of Virginia and if you have representation.

3:12There was a lot of news over the last week, and when I was preparing

3:16this podcast, when I was working on it, I look at all the news and

3:19I see if there's any data to really discuss on the show that people are

3:23talking about, data behind a story people are talking about.

3:26And I think that's what makes the show unique because I really don't spend a

3:29lot of time talking about personalities or, you know, people having conflicts or not people,

3:35but like, you know, influencers having conflicts, things that I just don't care about.

3:40And I don't think this audience cares that much about.

3:43But the news this week that really caught me off guard was about a person

3:48and I want to talk about him.

3:50His name is Kirk Moore.

3:52He is the principal of Paul's Valley High School in Oklahoma.

3:56And as many of you may have seen, he stopped a school shooting single -handedly.

4:01He launched himself out of school shooter, a former student, who planned to murder students

4:07and faculty in the school.

4:08And he took a bullet in his leg.

4:11But he was, he was hospitalized, obviously, for the bullet for two days.

4:15But he's going to be fine.

4:16Or he is fine, actually.

4:17And he went to the prom over the weekend and he was crowned prom king

4:23at the high school. And it was a huge crowd and they were all obviously

4:27clapping for him. And he saved their lives.

4:30And if you need a reason to feel hope for humanity or cry out of

4:35happiness, that is definitely worth looking at and watching.

4:40It's a great moment. Kirk Moore is a hero.

4:42And if I was the mayor of this area, of Oklahoma, I would be trying

4:47to find the money to make a statue of him in the town square somewhere.

4:51The 20 -something -year -old, or 20 -year -old, attempted school shooter was a former

4:57student of the school and actually of his.

5:00He was on the shooter's hit list.

5:03I'm not going to say the shooter's name because I'm going to avoid giving him

5:06the attention that I think a lot of school shooters look for.

5:09But he took guns from his father and his father struck.

5:13And he went to the school with the intention of committing a mass murder.

5:18Now, I'm going to give a slight trigger warning, I guess, for this episode.

5:22Something that I hate saying the word trigger.

5:24bigger warning but i'm gonna let you know that there's a lot of conversations that

5:27are a little uncomfortable and so if this is an uncomfortable topic for you um

5:32by all means come back on wednesday's episode when it's all about politics or pass

5:38over to the ask me anything which is nothing besides politics um but i think

5:43it's worth talking about worth mentioning he according to koco the 20 year old walked

5:50into the school raised a pistol told everyone to get on the ground attempted to

5:55shoot the pistol um i'm presuming in the air or at something an inanimate object

6:01um but it didn't go off then he attempted to execute two students two two

6:06children in the school um and that's when kirk moore the principal saw him tackled

6:12him disarmed him was shot in the leg while doing so and the assistant principal

6:17and someone else was able to get there while he was disarmed and hold the

6:21shooter down until law enforcement could arrive documents and investigators said that the campus that

6:26he the shooter intended the to go to the campus with the quote intent of

6:32killing students faculty and finally himself and he told authorities he wanted to quote conduct

6:37his own school shooting like the columbine shooters did end quote that's obviously a reference

6:45to the columbine high school massacre um which just so happened to have happened 27

6:50years ago today we are at the anniversary of the columbine school shooting now i

6:57cannot tell you half the times i've walked into the kitchen and i don't always

7:02remember grocery lists or someone's name five minutes after meeting them but there are world

7:08events that i've lived through where i could tell you every detail and it is

7:13a freeze frame in my mind and columbine is one of those events it's kind

7:20of i guess like the kennedy assassination for baby boomers or maybe the um the

7:25challenger blowing up for gen xers um there were a couple times that i can

7:30just remember from the 90s when i was a kid growing up when i was

7:35a kid that i'm like wow i i total freeze frame princess diana dying to

7:39what i was wearing where i was standing when i found out she died and

7:41i didn't know who she was until after she passed away because i was once

7:44again a child um i can tell you oddly all the new york post covers

7:49of michael jackson um with the child molestation accusations being called wacko jacko um my

7:56father got the new york post every day growing up uh but columbine was the

8:01first national news story that i can remember because i could see myself in the

8:08place of the victims um and there is a moment i guess in everyone's life

8:16that the aura or the facade that nothing could really hurt you from global events

8:20kind of dissipates and that was that point i think as an elder millennial i

8:26could say that um and the great irony from the school shooter attempted school shooters

8:32perspective is that columbine was never meant to be a massacre like a school shooting

8:37it was it was a failed bombing attempt it wasn't a seismic event because it

8:43wasn't a seismic event to me because i was close to it um i i've

8:48still never been to colorado um but at the time i was 11 about to

8:53turn 12 it was nine days from turning 12 um i was sixth grade and

8:59it was earth shattering i want to say for listeners in their 20s early 20s

9:04or mid 20s a decade or more younger than me and it's going to be

9:09hard to maybe for some of you to believe this but the idea of a

9:11school shooting was as realistic as like an alien invasion like it was something that

9:17geriatric millennials really could not believe if you were born in the 80s and raised

9:22in the 90s it was the first time a national event i could watch and

9:28say wow they're all basically almost my age i was a couple years younger than

9:32them um i was just two years shy of going to high school and the

9:35intimidation of going to high school was so was looming in my head of what

9:39is this new experience going to be like um we actually had to do school

9:45shooting drills the year after high after columbine um and i remember this is how

9:49unprepared we were this is how little we understood the time our principal sister jean

9:56uh she was an older nun you know nice enough lady in my retrospect probably

10:01probably drove her insane but nonetheless um our our our principal sister jean the nun

10:06she decided that if um there was a school shooter during our first school shooter

10:12drill what we were going to do was line up single file walk down the

10:19hallway down three flights of stairs to the parking lot of the building and then

10:25stand in line single file like we did for a fire alarm and i remember

10:30being 11 or sorry 12 rather it was 12 at the time going on 13

10:34and um because it was the year after columbine and i remember thinking thinking to

10:39myself this is idiotic and the computer teacher screamed over the sea of children and

10:49said we're sitting ducks out here and at that point i remember remember thinking okay

10:53maybe adults don't really have it all figured out maybe maybe they're all learning just

10:57like we are but that was how that's how little people had even thought to

11:03prepare for something like this and you know after Columbine it was a hop skip

11:09and jump to 9 -11 it was you know and that was obviously really close

11:13to me I did an episode my mom who worked in the World Trade Center

11:16and I grew up in New York City and then it was like all over

11:20like those that that that feeling of true safety that I think growing up in

11:28America in the 90s we lived with to a certain extent obviously there was high

11:33crime obviously there were child kidnappings there were other things but a general divorcement from

11:40chaos that 875 days between Columbine and 9 -11 for me anyway maybe not for

11:50all people I don't want to speak to everybody but for me it just evaporated

11:56and the feeling of not being safe the feeling that when you're a kid you're

12:02you're you're safe from certain world events that entire illusion I think for everyone my

12:09age range or for most of my age range I'll call it the Oregon Trail

12:13generation because we're all forced to play that stupid game that that it was just

12:17over in the blink of an eye that 875 days was the last gasp of

12:22it and the crazy thing is is that for those especially who didn't experience it

12:27for those who didn't live at that time there was the 24 -hour news cycle

12:32was just starting it was just beginning MSNBC and Fox News were just three years

12:38old at the time the Columbine shooting happened they were desperate the media I'm not

12:42just talking about those two networks but the media in general was very desperate for

12:46easy answers to our horrific tragedy and they created entire myths that stuck things we

12:53believe about today arguably but things we truly believe about arguably but the most consequential

13:01school shooting in American history obviously not this deadliest sadly but like the most consequential

13:06the media created narratives out of whole cloth and that people just still believe that

13:13they they blamed uh this goth rock singer named Marilyn Manson at the time um

13:18if you don't know who he was he was popular for a couple years in

13:21the late 90s and early 2000s uh they blamed violent video games uh they blamed

13:26goth subculture um they blamed a group of students called the trench coat mafia uh

13:32they said that the killers were obsessed with Hitler and Nazis um because it was

13:37done on Hitler's the anniversary of Hitler's birthday which is also today so many of

13:42these explanations were half -baked or completely not true at the worst but it didn't

13:49matter they were looking for simple answers for a complicated question that could have gone

13:54a long way had they actually done the work have they done the investigations because

14:01unlike so many other school shootings that have since passed us you know in since

14:07Columbine um so much evidence so many videotapes was left behind by the killers Eric

14:13Harris and Dylan Klebold um they left journals and videos and web pages um there

14:20were investigations and police reports um and there were classmates and other things that just

14:30went by the wayside because the media looked to create a narrative and that narrative

14:35became so pervasive so for so many people it became the truth it went into

14:41the lexicon of our culture movies and books and podcasts have been you know made

14:45about Columbine based on fake information um Dylan Dylan's mother Dylan Klebold's mother wrote a

14:54book and gave a TED talk and in my opinion and she became almost like

14:58the um to a lot of people in media she became the answer for how

15:02to be a successful parent and avoid your child becoming a mass murderer um but

15:08in many many of her books and many of her stories there's a lot of

15:12lies and mistruths and um and things that I think she has said to try

15:18to save some face um and this is a shooting that has still inspired people

15:24to commit more mass murder as of this week there's another wildly successful book named

15:31Columbine by David Cullen this was considered like the book about Columbine um it's written

15:37in a very it's very well written I've read it so it's in the style

15:40of maybe like Truman Capote's In Cold Blood has tons of factual errors and it

15:46does armchair psychology throughout the entire book um and unlike Capote he actually never met

15:52obviously the killers which Capote did meet in true in in his book In Cold

15:56Blood not only does the shooting still affect us and our social understanding of potential

16:05school shooters potential mass murderers but also impacts the survivors obviously those who have suffered

16:12from mental anguish and trauma and physical injuries but just last month one of the

16:18women who were injured in Columbine.

16:20She was shot. She passed away from her injuries.

16:23Anne -Marie Hofhauer. She died of complications.

16:27She became the 14th victim of Columbine 27 years after the shooting.

16:34Listen, I know that this is a podcast that most deals with politics.

16:37I know this is a much heavier subject, but I decided that this episode, I

16:42really want to talk about the myths and the facts about a massacre that still

16:47impacts our society today and kind of dispel them and try to give you guys

16:51a little bit of information if there's anything that we could do in the future

16:57as individuals to really ever stop them like this from happening again.

20:13So before we get into the myths that the media created about the Columbine massacre

20:17and what actually happened, especially for people who are a decade or more younger than

20:22me and weren't, you know, either they weren't born or they were children, I just

20:26want to go over some quick facts and things that you may or may not

20:29have known about it. So on the morning of April 20th, 1999, that is not

20:35the land that the dinosaurs roamed to a 24 -year -old friend of mine who

20:39made a joke about that when I was mentioning the idea of the podcast.

20:46April 20th, 1999, 17 days before graduation at Columbine High School, Eric Harris and Dylan

20:53Klebel went to their high school cafeteria carrying two large duffel bags and left them

20:59near other backpacks in the high school cafeteria.

21:03Each bag contained 20 pounds of propane tank rigged as bombs, along with other pipe

21:10bombs that they actually plan to detonate at 11 .17 a .m., the first lunch

21:14period at the high school.

21:16There will be over 450 kids in the cafeteria at that time.

21:22So they were planning on not a school shooting.

21:25It was really not supposed to be a school shooting.

21:27It was meant to be a bombing.

21:29They meant to have a bomb go off in the library, collapse the building.

21:34And then Dylan and Eric had also planned to park their cars near the entrance.

21:40Now, they didn't plan this.

21:40They did this. They parked their cars near the entrance and exits of the cafeteria

21:45with the intention of shooting the survivors of the bombing and they were planning on

21:53killing hundreds of people and not just 14 um so they parked their cars near

22:00the exits and entrance of the cafeteria and they waited but the bombs luckily never

22:04went off after getting tired they decided to grab two sawed -off shotguns a nine

22:10millimeter semi -automatic rifle and a nine millimeter semi -automatic pistol and at some point

22:16while they are moving the bombs this is before they grab the guns they run

22:22into a classmate eric runs into a classmate named brooks brown i want you to

22:26remember that name it's a very important name he was going to smoke a cigarette

22:31off site from the school because you can't smoke on campus even then even the

22:3590s um but he sees eric and brooks brown says to him something about like

22:42missing class that day earlier that day and eric laughs and says it doesn't matter

22:47anymore and then said brooks i like you now get out of here go home

22:52now um now i'm not going to go into every gory detail of the shooting

22:56it was awful it was terrible i was doing a lot of research for this

23:01episode and i was really worried i wouldn't be able to sleep at night so

23:04i'm going to spare people of all the gruesomeness um obviously there's a mass shooting

23:11that happens 13 people at the time 14 now are killed and then the gunmen

23:16turn the guns on themselves um it's up for question if one killed the other

23:21or they just both killed themselves you can listen to a million podcasts and documentaries

23:25if you want to hear all the details um but i i don't want to

23:28put myself that place on a monday morning for the entire work week and i

23:32don't want to put you in that place um i highly recommend randy brown's book

23:38which i'm going to discuss later and i want to also recommend jeff krass's book

23:42columbine a true crime story for those who really want all the details there's a

23:47million podcasts you can go to but those are two very well sourced books now

23:51remember there's no social media at the time thank god twitter didn't exist because the

23:55conspiracy theories would have really made it all the more worse and probably made the

24:00truth much harder to find out but the media swarms the high school obviously within

24:05the shooting and it they are looking for the fuse that lit the spark of

24:09why these two teenagers became killers um as i said before they blame marilyn manson

24:15the singer that they did not listen to they blame violent video games that the

24:19teenagers did not play they blamed the trench coat mafia a group within columbine high

24:25school that they did not belong to um it was always outside influencers that they

24:32looked to to say how did these two teens turn bad um but they never

24:38said did anyone miss something because in doing research after hearing about the attempted shooting

24:47in oklahoma i always wonder are there red flags can you spot somebody earlier on

24:54you know how often is it that no one would have seen something coming and

24:58these two were giant giant walking red flags giant red flags something that almost anybody

25:06could say they should be kept an eye on i mean how many times do

25:10we hear about a mass shooting and we hear uh someone say oh they were

25:14on the fbi the fbi had them on a list well wait how many times

25:18are we going to hear the police knew about them um eric and dylan were

25:22i guess the first cases um of a high profile mass killer who seemed so

25:30obvious that something would happen not not as much for um dylan but absolutely for

25:36eric harris now i'm going to emphasize eric and dylan came from a two -parent

25:41household there was no divorce at the time dylan's parents have since divorced but that's

25:44not important right now um their parents were in the house a lot um so

25:50in many of these videotapes that they left behind where they discuss planning this these

25:56attacks this attack they're at eric's house with his parents home they made pipe bombs

26:03in eric's house and the smells that they emitted from the different chemicals um in

26:11or near the house should have alerted somebody eric's dad eric harris's father was in

26:17the military so it's not like he wouldn't have had some knowledge of what certain

26:21things felt like it wasn't like he could say he was working on a car

26:25all the time um when they when they show off the bombs in these videotapes

26:32eric and dylan when they show off the bombs they've built them in their parents

26:36house and they're showing them off in their parents house the parents could have walked

26:39in at any time it felt at times when i was reviewing all these all

26:45this old information they wanted to be caught um and his dad by the way

26:49eric harris's dad did catch him before the shooting a year before the shooting his

26:53dad found one of the pipe bombs and he didn't turn it into police he

26:58detonated into a field by himself um but they didn't detonate to they didn't turn

27:04their son into the police because his son was already entering a juvenile diversion program

27:10after he and dylan klebald were caught breaking breaking into a van in January of

27:161998. And they said that they grounded him and they said that they conducted searches

27:21of his room, something I find extremely hard to believe because Eric Harris had bomb

27:28planning manuscripts and documents and books all throughout his room, as well as firearms.

27:36He was also suspended from school for hacking the school's computer system to get combinations

27:42to kids' lockers. At the time, this is a year before the shooting, he was

27:47on Zoloft, which he then switched to Luvix.

27:51But he was there because he was suffering from OCD and depression.

27:56So you're a parent of an obviously troubled teenager who's on prescription medication for depression

28:02or OCD. He's going to a juvenile detention, alternative detention program for breaking into a

28:08van. And he's making pipe bombs.

28:11And like, look, I get you love your kid.

28:13I get you want to protect your kid.

28:16But holy walking red flag, Batman, there should have been something which you did, which

28:22was more active. Eric was the obvious red flag.

28:26Eric Harris showed signs of aggression, showed really kind of demented behavior.

28:33Dylan Klebaugh was different, but he had issues as well.

28:37Dylan Klebaugh turned an essay, a very graphic essay, where somebody who looked like him,

28:45who had his features, who was left -handed, in the essay, he handed an essay,

28:51and it was a very gruesome murder of people his age.

28:55And the killer looked like him.

28:57And actually, the teacher brought it to Dylan's parents' attention just two months before the

29:03shooting, and nothing happened. Dylan's mother, Sue, who I've mentioned before, who was a very

29:11problematic person, in my opinion.

29:14She's been doing tons of public speeches and wrote about her son.

29:17And she just said he was immensely depressed, a teenager.

29:20And he was kind of sort of coaxed into it by Eric.

29:24She admits in her book that she yelled at him for forgetting Mother's Day one

29:30year. And he said something to her, like, stop yelling at me.

29:33You're making me mad. And I don't know how long I can hold my anger.

29:38Okay, that's clearly a sign of somebody who's got anger issues where they think they

29:44might attack their own mother.

29:46Now, what point do you say as a parent, I need to check my kid's

29:50room? Let me make sure everything is okay.

29:54They're increasing signs of isolation, signs of anger.

29:59They're getting into trouble. Had she done that, she would have found weapons.

30:05And remember that kid I told you about that?

30:07I said, remember this name?

30:10Brooks Brown. His father, Randy Brown, did his own investigation.

30:15He wrote a book called The Inside Story, Columbine Lies, Cover -Ups Ballistics and Lessons.

30:21Brooks was friends with Dylan and Eric, mostly Dylan, but he was friendly with Eric.

30:27And something he can't, sometimes he's actually been called, like, the would -be third shooter,

30:33which is kind of preposterous because he really wasn't involved in the planning or anything

30:37like that. He was just friends with both of them.

30:39Brooks' parents were so worried about Eric Harris that they believed he was incredibly violent.

30:45They fear that one day he would kill their son.

30:48And allegedly there was possibly threats that he did say, I will, I will, I'll

30:53harm you and your parents.

30:55According to Randy Brown, this is Brooks Brown's father, the classmate that was let go

31:00of the shooting, his father, Eric broke Dylan's windshield or he smashed it with a

31:05rock. And Eric's father made him go to the Brooks family to apologize.

31:12He kind of sat in the car while Eric went to apologize.

31:15And Brooks' mom said, I don't believe you.

31:19I'm sorry. I don't believe you.

31:20I don't believe you feel any kind of remorse for this action whatsoever.

31:24She actually made, this is how much of a red flag Eric Harris was.

31:29She made notes of the description of Eric's, like how Eric looked, his personal description

31:35and his car plate numbers and handed to their neighbors and said, look, if you

31:40see this person, he's immensely dangerous, you need to warn us.

31:44You need to tell me if he's lurking in the neighborhood.

31:47They filed police reports twice, both a year and two years before the massacre, because

31:55he was deadening pipe bombs and they had come up to his website.

31:58Eric Harris had a website about building pipe bombs.

32:02They warned the police that Eric Harris was making the site.

32:06A deputy actually drafted an affidavit to search Harris's home, but it was never filed

32:11with a judge. Randy Brown said the culture of the school and the local police

32:16at the time was to ignore signs and to make deals and to protect bullies.

32:21How many times have we seen this culture of protection result in tragedy again?

32:28Absolutely a thing that I think is also not mentioned when we talk about Columbine

32:33in retrospect is the fact that bullying existed and was really protected in the school.

32:40Eric and Dylan never wrote about bullying bullying in there.

32:42in all their manuscripts or in their videos or in their diaries.

32:47But reporting since then from teachers, from students said that they were absolutely bullied.

32:53And it was a culture that it was dominated in.

32:57There's something, by the way, that the Cullen book, the Columbine book by David Cullen

33:01completely gets wrong. School administrators, parents, police, all these people saw warning signs and they

33:11let them go by the wayside instead of realizing that violence is breeding in their

33:16own families, in their own communities.

33:18The police, by the way, are the ones who have avoided a low amount of

33:25criticism that they deserve for how much they ignored because they were warned over and

33:31over again, at least on two separate occasions.

33:35And from what I can gather, and so often is the case with these school

33:39shootings, people around the shooter or the attempted shooter ignore red flags.

33:46They ignore problematic behavior. I don't know if it's a word that like problematic is

33:51like a word that's overused, but psychotic behavior or immense mood shifts.

33:58Parents who don't do the job of being parents because it's inconvenient or it might

34:07get their kid in trouble.

34:09And administrators, school administrators, who so often just sided with bullies and allowed bullying to

34:17really prosper. Now, a lot of those things in the school side have changed since

34:21Columbine pretty successfully. A lot of the other stuff, like about parenting, has actually gotten

34:26kind of worse, where parents don't want to be parents.

34:30I know that, listen, I know this is not a subject that I would usually

34:35cover on this podcast, but I think it made such an impact on the country.

34:42It made such an impact on my generation that I think breaking down this information

34:49for you guys, breaking down the news and how it went and the misconceptions and

34:55the myths of this terrible event is how you have any kind of awareness.

35:01Because as I say, 27 years have passed from today and there are still a

35:07woman who died from her, from her, from her, from the attack as of last

35:13month. There are still people inspired by it.

35:16And I hope that if you take anything, one, it's to look for truth out

35:21of the media lies. It's kind of something I always talk about during this podcast.

35:26This is less data -driven though, but it's more fact -based.

35:30And that you as a person, if you have anybody that shows truly troubling signs

35:36in their life, you don't ignore it or talk to someone being weird when it's

35:40so obvious, when the red flags can be so obvious.

35:45All right, I'm done with Columbine.

39:54There's a new series out called Big Mistakes with him on Netflix.

39:57It's really funny. We should take some time and laugh and not get bogged down

40:01in the news. Greg Schitt's Creek is an amazing show.

40:04I have watched it so many times.

40:07It's actually like a family show that we all have watched.

40:12And the episode that is the Christmas episode where Eugene Levy's character says that he's

40:19going to get a meatloaf from the diner.

40:21And he storms off and the woman who works at the front desk says, she

40:29goes, meatloaf day was yesterday.

40:32And Moira says, dear God, makes my father like turn purple laughing.

40:38It's a great show. I haven't seen the new Netflix show.

40:40I saw him promote it.

40:41I hope it's funny. I will check it out.

40:43I don't know if he wrote it because he did write Schitt's Creek.

40:45But I will definitely check that out.

40:49OK, the next up comes from Kevin.

40:51He says, hi, Ryan. Been listening since the start.

40:53Glad you have your own show.

40:54I think I found you through Ann Coulter, who should come on the show again.

40:57She should. I'm going to see Ann, I think, in a couple of weeks.

41:01And I will bring it to her attention that she needs to come on for

41:04a third time. He wrote, I've lived in Florida all my life.

41:07And I love how DeSantis has run the state overall.

41:09Can we just talk about, I mean, he's still in office, but the seismic personality

41:16and how much Ron DeSantis has changed the idea of what a governor can do.

41:21So often governors, maybe they have like one or two issues that they would try

41:25to really reform that would have a national impact like on gun laws or other

41:29stuff. But DeSantis has really taken the gambit on so many issues and still doing

41:35it in his last year.

41:36He's having this special session about AI and about redistricting and just really putting himself

41:42in the forefront and trying to make a big impact.

41:45And I salute the guy.

41:46I mean, he he's an incredible governor and shows you what if what a smart

41:52person who has, you know, integrity, but also ideas can really do.

42:01It helps that he has the state legislature supporting him, but what they can do

42:04when they're effectively governing. I mean, we don't have other people like Ron DeSantis on

42:10the right anyway. We have people who are fine.

42:12They're good and they're and they're thoughtful.

42:14But we have no one else like Ron DeSantis.

42:16He is a one time once in a generation type leadership, hopefully not once in

42:21a lifetime. But, oh, you know, he's a special, special person in a national news

42:26environment. OK, you said so far, I am not enthusiastic about all three main candidates

42:31running to succeed him. I guess I'm asking where things stand and what the hell

42:35is going with the Florida GOP.

42:37Thanks. So there are I believe the three people you're mentioning is Jay Collins, lieutenant

42:43governor, Byron Donalds, the congressman, and then Jay Fishback, who is like this intranet personality

42:50who is running. I don't believe Jay is running a real campaign.

42:55So I'm going to not Jay Collins, Jay Fishback.

42:58He's running a campaign for the Internet.

42:59He's not raising any money.

43:01He's making a lot of headways and he is doing an important thing you see

43:08in our society where you are in our society, in our political world where you

43:12try to expand. Do you try to throw out as many different ideas as possible

43:18and see what sticks? It's how we ultimately get some change.

43:20There are things he's saying that I find just disgusting and gross.

43:24There are things he says that are interesting and thought provoking, but he's not running

43:29a real campaign, so it doesn't really matter.

43:31The Jay Collins, lieutenant governor, a big part of the problem is that.

43:37For too long, Casey DeSantis was considered the obvious successor to her husband.

43:43And so I think that that pushed a lot of people to wait for too

43:48long. And Byron Donald's built this immense war chest.

43:51He's raised so much money and Trump endorsed him.

43:56And that created this, you know, opinion that he was going to be the nominee.

44:03And I think other people who may have been looking at it, I know other

44:06people who were looking at it.

44:07Just didn't end up running.

44:08I met with two Florida politicians who wanted to run for governor this year.

44:12I met them way before anyone had officially announced.

44:15But two sitting members of Congress who said, I want to run for governor.

44:20And I sat with them.

44:22I made opinions of what they should be doing strategy -wise to build their name

44:25ID, to build their abilities to run, how that run would work.

44:30And they kind of sat on it for a little while.

44:33Byron ran, got the Trump endorsement, raised a lot of money.

44:38And no one else ran because they didn't think they could beat the Trump endorsement.

44:41Same thing, by the way, happened in Ohio with Vivek Ramaswamy.

44:43There were loads of politicians who wanted to run for governor.

44:46But once Vivek got the Trump endorsement, they kind of felt like, what's the point?

44:51I can't really beat this massive amount of fundraising that he's doing.

44:56And so competition, good competition, didn't rise to the top.

45:01That's sometimes the problem with the Trump endorsement, is that a lot of people who

45:05could be good don't ever even take a stab at it.

45:09I remember talking to one, this is in Ohio, one congressman who wanted to run

45:13for governor. And I said to him, you know, you have to announce in like

45:17the next 72 hours. And he was like, no, no, no.

45:20We don't even think Vivek's actually going to run.

45:22I mean, they were people were sitting on on the aggressiveness of some of these

45:27campaigns for too long. So I think that's really what happened with Florida and other

45:31states is that someone got the Trump endorsement.

45:34They raised buckets of money and they weeded out good competition.

45:38And in the case of Florida specifically, in my opinion, Casey DeSantis should have said

45:44much earlier that she was not running because I don't think she ever really wanted

45:48to run. In my opinion, I don't have inside proof, but I don't think that

45:52she really wanted to run.

45:53And I think that may have kept some people away from even announcing.

45:57And that's really what happened with Florida.

46:00I get you don't like them.

46:02You got to make a decision.

46:03One of the three. I mean, if you really don't like them and it's the

46:07primary, you could just write in your next door neighbor or best friend.

46:11I don't know what to do.

46:13Just do research on different things.

46:15Pick a topic that no one's really talking about and say, you know, where do

46:19you stand on this thing?

46:20It means a lot to you.

46:21Where do you stand on AI in schools?

46:24And say, OK, what person?

46:26Because they're all going to have generically the same things on most issues.

46:29So pick a really nuanced issue where there is a disagreement and maybe decide on

46:32that. But that is the story.
