2:32We are both in South Florida, although in different studios.

2:36Buck is at his home studio.

2:38I've got to fly out of Palm Beach here in a little bit because we

2:41were at Mar -a -Lago last night helping to emcee a charity event that raised,

2:47Buck, I was told, over $1 .3 million to back the blue.

3:20Now, as if that were not enough, there is all sorts of awesomeness that is

3:26going on right now in the Iran ecosystem and everything connected to it.

3:34But President Trump this morning began to post a long series of great statements here

3:42that were pretty fantastic and would suggest that there may be very good news coming

3:49sooner rather than later. Among them, Buck, that the Strait of Hormuz is basically going

3:55to be wide open. The price of oil and gas dropped $10 this morning early.

4:01Right now, as I am talking to all of you, that price $81 per barrel.

4:07To kind of put that into context, when this war started with Iran, it was

4:12just $68. So effectively, much of the price run -up almost overnight in oil and

4:20gas has vanished. That would mean, and I know you all understand this and how

4:24frustrating it is, it's amazing how quickly oil and gas prices can go up and

4:29how long it takes them to come down.

4:31But the price of oil and gas should be declining rather precipitously in the short

4:38term as we move into the rest of April and into early May.

4:44So everyone who told you that this was going to be some sort of economic

4:48cataclysm, wrong yet again. Stock market, up nearly the Dow 1 ,000 points to near

4:55an all -time record high on the Dow.

4:58The S &P 500 has surged and continued to set yet more records.

5:04Stocks have never been more valuable if you have 401ks or you have individual stocks

5:10or whatever investments you might have in the stock market.

5:12And Trump is saying that Iran has agreed to give up the so -called nuclear

5:17dust and allow that to be returned to the United States.

5:22Basically, what Trump has put out...

5:24there is nothing less than total and complete unequivocal victory.

5:30Buck, I will bring you in.

5:32I will say just in general that it is worth noting that there likely will

5:38be a couple of ups and downs, some potential interesting and corkscrew moments in this.

5:49But it appears, based on what President Trump has put out, and Iran, to their

5:53credit, said that the Strait of Hormuz was open, that the mines have been removed.

5:58Basically, the World War III, the economy is going to collapse people, and they are

6:04who you know they are.

6:06There are a lot of them wrong yet again, and we seem to be in

6:11a very optimistic space. What did you think as you saw this news coming down

6:15this morning, Buck? Look, if this continues as it is, and I'm very upfront about

6:23this, too. I was only really trusting in Trump on this, to the degree, because

6:27there's been so many just debacles and failures of previous administrations in the Middle East,

6:35and Iraq, and Afghanistan, and Syria.

6:37And they just, they, we're like the, from the leadership side, from the White House

6:42side, we're the gang that can't shoot straight.

6:44We just were screwing everything up.

6:46Bush administration disaster, Obama administration disaster.

6:50Biden's obviously an imbecile, and we can't figure this out, right?

6:54And then Trump comes along and treats it like a business transaction.

6:58What do they have? What do I have?

7:00How do I pressure them?

7:01Where do we have advantages?

7:02Where are they weak? And right now, it looks like he is on the precipice

7:09of not just declaring a total victory, but actually having one, you know?

7:15Yeah. It's one thing to say mission accomplished, but if they agree to a deal

7:19that gives us the right to inspect and takes all the nuclear material and all

7:23this other stuff, look, we're not there yet, but I have to say, this would

7:29be if it goes where Trump is saying it is right now.

7:33And he put out this on Truth Social.

7:35The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but

7:39the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran

7:44only until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100 % complete.

7:48This process should go very quickly in that most of the points are already negotiated.

7:53Thank you for your attention in this matter, President Donald J.

7:56Trump. If this is right, if this is right, and this is where this is

8:02going, Clay, Trump will have pulled off the most impressive foreign policy maneuver of my

8:09lifetime. I don't know. I don't know what else would be in the same category

8:13of taking on an intractable and critical problem and being able to win where other

8:19administrations have failed and to do so with very minimal losses.

8:25Every loss, every life we lose is a tragedy on our armed forces side.

8:29But, you know, we're not we're not even in the same stratosphere as what we

8:36saw in Iraq and Afghanistan casualties to bring this about.

8:39I'm I'm I'm a little bit amazed that this has gone as far as it

8:43has in this way. There's a part of me that still holds out.

8:46Let's see what the Iranians actually agree to.

8:48Trump is great at selling things, not necessarily finishing things.

8:51Let's see. Let's wait. But the fact that they're going to if it really is

8:57the case that Iran won't call his bluff and basically blow up an oil tanker,

9:04because that was always the concern, if they're unwilling to do that and we can

9:08blockade them without consequence, we win.

9:11Yes, I don't see I don't see a way around that.

9:14They cannot sustain no oil leaving their ports.

9:18They cannot sustain that. Yes.

9:21And the blockade didn't even take very long.

9:24The price of oil and gas didn't go up very much when we announced the

9:28blockade. And again, as we are talking to you right now, the price of oil

9:33and gas down to eighty one dollars a barrel.

9:35And you say, OK, how does that translate?

9:37Well, it was sixty eight dollars when the war began back in February.

9:42And you were paying around again.

9:44I always love it. You were paying around three dollars a gallon for your gas

9:49nationwide on average. I know those of you in California are screwed, but in on

9:54average, I would think you've already seen oil and gas prices basically stop going up.

9:59They are going to start to back up again.

10:02And I would think in early to mid May, you're going to be talking about

10:07three dollar and twenty cents a gallon oil and gas at this point in time,

10:11which is pretty doggone cheap.

10:14And then again, people say, OK, what about during the summer driving season?

10:19It'll go up traditionally goes up a little bit.

10:22And then I think and again, this is the midterm voting cycle coming up.

10:27I think by September and October, you're going to see sub three dollar a gallon

10:31per average gas prices. So gas prices are going to come back to where they

10:36were, maybe even come down a bit more, because if all of these agreements are

10:41correct, then Iran's ability to curtail oil and gas production or oil and gas transit

10:47is even more eliminated. And there's a possibility, Buck, that.

10:52We're actually I still find this to be maybe the most difficult aspect of the

10:56of the negotiation is to actually get the so -called nuclear dust into American possession.

11:03But I tweeted kind of a joke, but I could also see it happening that

11:08Trump just comes out to a press conference one day, one day.

11:12And he's got all of the Iranian nuclear elements, the nuclear dust sort of arrayed

11:20in in front of him like they have done in the past.

11:24And he just says, hey, unlike with the weapons of mass destruction, here was Iran's

11:28attempt. And we have now seized it and it is in U .S.

11:32possession. And I don't see how you could talk if all this ends up happening,

11:36how this is anything other than a complete and total victory.

11:39I'll open up phone lines.

11:40800 -282 -2882. Now, some people are going to say, well, there wasn't regime change.

11:46Buck, I think it's fair to say if Iran is negotiating to give the United

11:51States what Trump has said that they are giving, that's a pretty significant change in

11:56the regime and what they are willing to do or able to do compared to

12:02what the Ayatollah had done for 40 some odd years.

12:05So it may be the case that there are still religious fundamentalists ostensibly in charge

12:10of Iran. But they have been neutered on an epic scale if they are basically

12:14willing to agree with everything out there.

12:19Trump took their key leverage point, and this is the Trump jujitsu that I didn't

12:26see coming, quite honestly. And he just said, oh, you're going to shut down the

12:30strait? No, we're going to shut down the strait for you.

12:34And I had not even heard.

12:36Was this even being discussed before Trump came along as something to do with Iran?

12:39I suggested it. It's brilliant.

12:42I'm just going to admit this.

12:42This is brilliant. People ripped me to shreds when I suggested it on social media

12:48last week. But the reason why he had to do it, Buck, was because everybody

12:53in the media was saying Iran controls the strait.

12:57And you and I pointed out, well, do terrorists control things?

13:00I mean, they're threatening to blow it up.

13:01I said they took it hostage.

13:03And Trump, they took the strait hostage.

13:05They didn't control it. But if you're not willing to shoot the hostage, you're not

13:09really a hostage taker, right?

13:10And Trump said, I don't think you'll do it.

13:12And that was the part of this where I got to say, I was surprised.

13:15They wouldn't do it. And as a result, again, the economy is soaring.

13:21All the people that told you World War III was coming or that you're going

13:24to be paying $8 a gallon for gas and the economy was going to collapse

13:28and all these things, they were wrong again.

13:30And I do think at some point in time, if you're listening to some of

13:33these people, you have to sit back and say, wait a minute, are they ever

13:36right? They are constantly telling me that catastrophe is going to befall us.

13:41And we should also mention out, by the way, that Trump said, hey, Israel's not

13:46going to be attacking Lebanon.

13:48Why is that significant? I mean, it was always obvious to you and me and

13:52anybody with a functional brain.

13:53But one of the criticisms during this Iran maneuver was, oh, Trump is only doing

13:59this because of Israel and they control him.

14:02Which is funny, only because to me, they've been trying to tell you that Trump

14:06was a Nazi, that he was modern day Hitler for the last decade.

14:10And now suddenly he's such a great ally of Israel that he can't even make

14:15his own decisions. The reality is Israel is a country of nine or 10 million

14:19people. We are the straw that stirs the drink of basically anything going on in

14:24the larger economic situation. Trump was not being led by Israel and being told what

14:31to do. And now he is basically letting it be known that Israel is not

14:36to strike Lebanon and that he wants to bring peace to Israel and Lebanon.

14:40He just had Marco Rubio meeting with them at the White House.

14:43So, again, there's still some details to be ironed out.

14:46We still have to see exactly how it plays out.

14:48I've said it from the get -go.

14:49The traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, when we start seeing 20, 30, 40 ships

14:55going through comfortably, you will recognize that things are 100 % back to normal.

15:00But things are pretty close to being back to normal, except we have neutered the

15:05Iranian regime. And we did to Iran, it appears, Buck, what Bill Clinton should have

15:10done to North Korea back in the 90s.

15:13Between this and Venezuela, and I don't think anyone's looking at Cuba now and assuming

15:18Trump doesn't have something up his sleeve for that, too.

15:21He could be the most transformational foreign policy president of our lifetime, in a good

15:27way. Not in a creating catastrophe and quagmires and mess.

15:31The opposite. Fixing problems that other administrations were completely incapable of addressing and understanding.

15:40So, look, I hope this continues.

15:43You know me, I'm cautious.

15:44But now I'm cautiously optimistic.

15:46Before I was like, I don't know.

15:49I mean, given what's going on right now, you have to be optimistic.

15:52I mean, I think the deal, I think the Iranians are going to start to

15:56wriggle on the hook, if you will, about the deal.

15:59And that's going to continue, and there's going to be an extension of, but if

16:04we can blockade them, and that's just the situation, their bank accounts are going to

16:08run dry, and that government is going to be in a world of hurt.

16:11And they don't have any option.

16:12There's nothing they can do.

21:28Welcome back in here to Clay and Buck.

21:30So, Clay mentioned this. We wanted to dive into it with you.

21:34Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas gave a lecture at UT Austin earlier this week.

21:39And he was talking about the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

21:47And he was talking about the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

21:47his personal encounters with American founding principles.

21:51Clay, no surprise, there were protesters.

21:55Protesters, of course. A Supreme Court justice comes to a state school, and you have

22:00to have idiots who don't want him there.

22:03Instead of listening and perhaps learning something, they would rather squawk and bleat and, you

22:10know, bang cowbells and do all the other idiotic things that these leftists love to

22:15do. But we wanted to bring you some of the highlights of this.

22:20For one, Clarence Thomas, Supreme Court justice, is not shy, this is cut 14, not

22:26shy about progressivism, calling out progressivism as a threat.

22:31Play it. At the beginning of the 20th century, a new set of first principles

22:37of government was introduced into the American mainstream.

22:41The proponents of this new set of first principles, most prominent among them, the 28th

22:49president of our country, Woodrow Wilson, called it progressivism.

22:54The century of progressivism did not go well.

22:58The European system that Wilson and the progressives scolded Americans for not adopting, which he

23:06called nearly perfect, led to the governments that caused the most awful century that the

23:12world has ever seen. Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini, and Mao.

23:18All were intertwined with the rise of progressivism and all were opposed to the natural

23:25rights on which our declaration are based.

23:30Clay, he knows. He pays attention.

23:34Yeah, look, and we've been talking some about the idea of Justice Alito stepping down.

23:40In fact, he's favored to.

23:42Clarence Thomas is only a couple of years away now from becoming, I believe I'm

23:47correct on this, team look this up, Molly Hemingway, by the way, coming on the

23:51show next Tuesday. She's written a book about Alito to discuss that book with us

23:56and we'll get her take on whether she thinks Alito might step down.

24:00But Clarence Thomas Buck, if I'm not mistaken, is only about a year and a

24:04half away from becoming the longest serving Supreme Court justice, I believe, of all time.

24:12And so there's the expectation that he will not step down because he wants to

24:17get that title. Good for him.

24:21Team, confirm that that's correct.

24:22We got a couple of more from him and I think this is important.

24:26He was talking at the University of Texas at Austin, the main UT campus down

24:30in the state of Texas, Buck, and he also directly addressed intolerance about younger generations.

24:37And this is something that my wife and I have been focused on because it's

24:41one of the reasons we made a donation to Vanderbilt University to their law school.

24:47Seriously, I think that that young person should ask yourself while you're in college, how

24:53do you all deal with differences?

24:54Because I joined the court that dealt with differences as friends, as we respected each

25:00other. And I don't know how that's civility.

25:03I don't know how you bring it back in the current environment with social media

25:07and name calling and all and people accusing each other of various things and animus.

25:13I don't know how you do that.

25:14And I fear that that's going to infect the institutions such as the court and

25:19judges, et cetera, in the future.

25:21Because these are young people who will be in these jobs.

25:25One of the things I'm most concerned about in law schools, Buck, and I do

25:29think it's really significant, it didn't exist when I was in law school, is the

25:33idea that the cases that you take on as an advocate in some way are

25:39your own personal reflections of the world.

25:43Now, sometimes that can be the case, right?

25:45If you happen to work, say, at a First Amendment center, you would be taking

25:50on cases typically that would be expansive in the First Amendment.

25:55But if you are engaged in many practices of law, it is the fact that

26:00you will sometimes represent people you don't like, you don't agree with, but that have

26:04a right to be zealously defended under the Constitution.

26:07And so I think, arguably, this is maybe the most important thing that lawyers have

26:11an obligation to do. is zealously advocate to the best of our ability, sometimes, oftentimes,

26:18say even, for individuals and for situations and cases that we would not personally advocate

26:24for if we were not in the job of being an advocate.

26:27You know, you're a lawyer, you're an advocate for someone else, you aren't typically espousing

26:32your own views. And I think a lot of young lawyers have lost that and

26:36they somehow believe, oh, if I represent this case or this person, that's a reflection

26:41of my personal beliefs, I think that's one of the big, major institutional flaws that

26:46is now taken root across all of the legal profession.

26:50It's worth noting that President Trump came up against this where there was a really

26:56concerted effort through the upper ranks of the legal profession, the private sector side, to

27:02prevent any good attorneys from name brand firms from doing any work involving Trump or

27:10even the administration or anything at all.

27:13They tried to make MAGA untouchable for the purposes of big law and that just

27:21goes to show you how quickly they're willing to abandon principle on these matters and

27:27how some of the most core and basic understandings of what our system is supposed

27:32to be all about can be dispensed with so quickly by those who have the

27:38democrat persuasion in their ideology buck this is also a big story that's not getting

27:45a ton of attention california is stripping away the law license of one of pre

27:50to your point on president trump's legal advisors for legal uh advice to a client

27:56that they do not like this is crazy uh i mean that we would allow

28:01a bar association to go to the point of lawyers give all sorts of advice

28:07to clients and unless the legal advice is hey here's how you dispose of a

28:12dead body right i mean there are certain legal uh standards that are applied you

28:17can't be involved in helping a crime to be committed that is a direct crime

28:22but all of the advice that the president of the united states gets and got

28:27about electors about the entire process surrounding how power is transferred i thought was very

28:34within the bounds constitutionally of acceptable advice they're taking away this guy eastman i believe

28:40it's eastman guys can look me uh correct me if i'm wrong taking away his

28:43law license in california and i talked about this the other day buck it's one

28:46reason i'm glad that i'm licensed in the state of tennessee because we have basic

28:51common sense in the state of tennessee but i i think that people would have

28:55come after my law license 100 if i were uh licensed in washington dc or

29:00if i were licensed in california or new york uh i mean remember our good

29:05buddy swalwell wanted me criminally prosecuted for saying i don't believe that trump should be

29:09convicted i mean he tweeted that um and i got a bar examination into my

29:13record for and i said hey you know i'm a lawyer but i'm also a

29:17prognosticator i have to be able to say exactly what i think um by the

29:21way uh clarence thomas would become the all -time longest serving supreme court justice sometime

29:28in 2028 if he continues on the bench and i think that goal matters to

29:33him quite a lot buck because we're playing these cuts for clarence thomas i don't

29:37think he's ever really recovered from the nastiness of his uh of his confirmation hearings

29:42and i think he sees as the ultimate vindication becoming the longest serving justice as

29:50a way to spite his critics and i think that matters to him significantly so

29:55i don't think he's going to step down that comes with risk because i believe

29:58he's 78 years old um but i do think alito is going to step down

30:02i think we're going to have a supreme court uh uh opening this summer which

30:06will turn into a huge story it'll be a big story i'm not sure the

30:13fight one thing would be interesting is if they're going to go with a woman

30:15again just because remember the the they couldn't kavanaugh amy coney barrett yeah that was

30:23for sure maybe they would try this time around and say that there was some

30:27lady that worked for her or something that she touched but the uh the reality

30:31is the democrat playbook on that stuff was not as effective uh for obvious reasons

30:38the second time around after they tried it on kavanaugh so i i think you're

30:43likely to get a very good judge from trump if alito steps down and i

30:47feel like alito's a team player maybe i'm just reading too much into this but

30:51i feel like he thinks you know honestly i believe in that he he wants

30:56a justice who shares his principles which i would view as actual legal and constitutional

31:01principles instead of political whim or politicized feeling about things which i do believe and

31:09i understand this is not enough this is of course i'm going to feel this

31:13way yes i think his wife may be ready to be done with it too

31:16because remember they came after her over the flags that she was flying outside of

31:21their homes and he's 76 years old i think if you're in good health some

31:26of you out there uh are probably in this position and you're thinking hey i

31:30don't know how many more years we have let's go do fun things let's be

31:34grandparents let's not be bogged down in the same way uh with working i saw

31:39a stat the other that blew me away buck only 37 percent of americans work

31:44after the age of 55 years old now and i'm 47 and i was looking

31:49i i'm kind of in disbelief uh that only 37 percent of americans even continue

31:54to work past 55 so the age of some of our political figures whether it's

32:00politicians or judges and obviously their jobs are less they're not you know putting down

32:05asphalt but it is kind of wild the amount of people 55 doesn't seem that

32:10old to me to just decide hey you know what i've had enough of this

32:13my brother -in -law retired at 51 the other day uh and i couldn't believe

32:18it i'm like you're retired you're 51 um anyway uh so 76 uh for most

32:24jobs would be a very advanced age uh under which to be uh pursuing them

32:28we got some fun talkbacks we'll get to some of those from you guys on

34:29For those of you who may not have been aggressively following it, oil and gas

34:34down around $10 to $81.

34:36Stock market soaring. The Dow up nearly 1 ,000 points.

34:41S &P 500 setting an all -time high.

34:44As optimism on the end of the Iran war and the Hormuz Strait being open

34:52continues to take charge of the markets.

34:55We bring in now someone who knows a little bit about the markets.

34:58I am told she is in Alaska.

35:00I enjoy reading her column in the Wall Street Journal.

35:02She is Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal.

35:05Tons of news from Trump early morning post.

35:09Kim, what's your take on where we are with Iran?

35:12Is Trump being overly ambitious, overly optimistic?

35:15Or do you think we're really at a place now where this conflict is close

35:19to being complete? Well, I think there's reason to believe we're in a more optimistic

35:25place than we have been mostly just because the Iranians the last time around when

35:30they said, oh, well, we'll open the strait.

35:31Within minutes, it was clear that they were messing around.

35:34They weren't really going to do this.

35:36This sounds like it's more definite.

35:39We're going to have to watch.

35:40I mean, we all know the game they play, right, is to try to delay

35:44things, string things out, wear down the other side so that they can get right

35:49back to doing what they want to do.

35:51But I do think that this oil embargo that we have put, this ship embargo

35:55that we've put in, has changed the calculus.

35:59That economy is already under enormous stress, and we, by not allowing its ships out,

36:05are doing very rapid, very large damage to it.

36:09And at a certain point, it's going to face enormous uprest internally, which is, of

36:14course, what it really worries about.

36:17The blockade was a lot of people said that Iran had control of the Strait

36:22of Hormuz, even though they were really, as Buck said, just taking it hostage, and

36:26they were threatening that they might blow up any ship.

36:30As soon as we started the blockade, it feels like Iran just crumbled, both economically,

36:36as you just mentioned, but also, even from a negotiation perspective, it feels like that

36:41was sort of the coup de grace from Trump.

36:43Maybe they didn't anticipate it, but it seems like an incredible play from a negotiating

36:47perspective. Well, just think about all the problems that they have with that.

36:52I mean, this is their only source, really, of revenue, their main source of revenue.

36:56It's also, for all that they export oil, they depend deeply on a number of

37:00imports, just like most countries do, and we are essentially starving them of that.

37:05Here's the other problem, too, is that at a certain point, Iran doesn't have a

37:09great deal of storage capacity for its oil in -country, and a lot of it

37:14was about 60 % of it was already full.

37:16They're going to run out of the ability to do anything with the oil they

37:19are pumping very rapidly, and that requires you to then shutter wells, and it becomes

37:24immensely difficult to reopen those once that happens.

37:29Also, a currency problem, massive currency problem within the country, very massive inflation, and, you

37:36know, they don't like the idea of the United States giving them orders, but if

37:41the decision that they are making at the moment is, well, we can accept some

37:45orders from the United States or we can lose control entirely, I think they're debating

37:50the lesser of those evils.

37:52Kim, Buck and I have been debating.

37:55In addition, we're talking about the midterms, obviously, but we're already looking ahead a little

37:59bit to 2028. Kamala has been speaking out quite a lot.

38:04Do you think that Kamala...

38:05Clay is a huge, huge Kamala fan, just so you understand, Kim.

38:08Huge Kamala fan, Clay Travis.

38:10Yeah, no, I do, I know.

38:10I listen. I got you think that Kamala will run as you try and read

38:15some of these tea leaves and look ahead, not just to the midterms, but also

38:18to the twenty twenty eight campaign.

38:21What are Democrats going to do?

38:23And also we'll get your take on.

38:24Do you buy J .D.

38:25versus Marco as ever emerging?

38:28Do they run as a joint ticket?

38:29I know we're a ways out, but as Buck and I talk about the day

38:32after the midterms, the twenty twenty eight political cycle is really fully go.

38:38What happens? How does this play out?

38:41So on the Democratic side, of course she runs.

38:44OK, I mean, look, you're not in politics.

38:46You're not Kamala Harris unless you're ambitious.

38:49And for all of the ridicule that we like to heap on her, if you

38:54look at the polls out there, simply because of name recognition and her prior position,

38:59she still begins essentially at the head of the pack.

39:02So she's you can also see some some of her movements.

39:06She puts out the book.

39:07She's been doing these tours.

39:08She's keeping in the public eye.

39:10She did pass on the California option.

39:13Some people were saying, oh, you should come in and sort out this completely messy

39:16primary field we have. She's not who doesn't want to be governor of California.

39:20She's still got her eyes on the big prize.

39:23I don't think that once she gets in, we know for a fact just what

39:27a fantastic campaigner she is, by the way.

39:30That was a joke. She's going to have a lot of trouble.

39:33I mean, Kamala Harris next to Gavin Newsom, he's a whole lot smoother, but she

39:39has some other kind of built in identity politics advantages as well, too.

39:42So, yeah, of course, I see her running.

39:44Now, if I'm wrong, I liked Buck's idea that we memory hold this whole conversation.

39:49But anyway, for now, that's what I'm going with.

39:52On the Republican side, I find this fascinating.

39:56J .D. Vance is out there all the time trying to remind everybody he's the

40:00heir apparent. Marco Rubio, by contrast, is just there every day with his head down

40:06trying to finish his work.

40:07And, you know, if you look, his stock is really rising, that kind of quiet

40:13approach, loyal to the president, get the president's agenda done.

40:17And so, you know, we'll see.

40:19I don't necessarily see a joint ticket, but I do think there's a long way

40:24to run between before we see how that little rivalry plays out in the long

40:29run. All right. Kim, I got to ask you, is there any way that the

40:34situation in Iran you think could go south in a hurry?

40:40Do you see anything? I've also been saying that the Iranians, they're masters at delay

40:45games. They're masters at finding ways to just stretch this out.

40:50And I do worry that that's where this could end up going.

40:54But that's not obviously a catastrophic thing.

40:56Is there any way that you think, though, that they can turn around what they

40:59currently face with the power dynamic over the strait and everything else?

41:03Or is this checkmate by Trump?

41:06And it's never checkmate with Iran.

41:08I don't I don't think I agree with you.

41:10We've been watching these characters for 47 years.

41:13I was much more concerned about what you laid out a couple of weeks ago

41:17when Trump announced that ceasefire.

41:19That did seem as though there were major concessions that the United States was not

41:24getting and that we were being put into a delay loop where they were never

41:28going to give them. The fact that we decided to do this blockade and we

41:33have continued to say that the bombing will recommence unless you get to where we

41:39are. Now, it's all going to matter, though.

41:41Yes, it could go south.

41:42We got to watch this.

41:43It's you know, this president also wants this done for political, domestic reasons.

41:48And I get it. OK, it's and it's a very big tension there.

41:51And there are people within his administration that are very much advising him just to

41:56cut it off, take the win, even if they haven't got everything they want.

42:00It doesn't seem like he's there.

42:02The other thing that I worry about is, are they honest brokers?

42:05I mean, is there going to be a ship that goes through and is it

42:09going to come under attack?

42:10Is there going to be an explosion, a bomb, you know, a mine, something?

42:14Is this a fake head fake?

42:15We don't know. I mean, and there's can I can I just jump in there,

42:18Kim, just because I just just that to me.

42:22I mean, I describe this.

42:24It sounds like you've been tuning into some of the chats with Clay on the

42:26air. So thank you for that.

42:28But I've described this as they don't control it, but they took it hostage or

42:31at least they claim to take it hostage.

42:32Of course, in hostage taking, they have to believe that you'll actually pull the trigger,

42:36so to speak. That is the part of this that at least to this point

42:40I have been surprised by.

42:43I always thought because otherwise, well, then why do we care at all?

42:46Right. If Iran is unwilling now, maybe some would argue it's it's so incapable of

42:51doing that now relative to what it would have been before the airstrikes.

42:54That's another layer of this.

42:56But if Iran is unwilling to open fire on ships in the strait, then what

43:02was the you know? What was the threat from the beginning?

43:05Yeah. Then you're right. They're exposed as nothing.

43:11So that to me is the concerning part, because they might we're assuming right now,

43:16or I shouldn't say assuming.

43:17But right now it looks like Trump is just saying they're not going to do

43:20anything because we're going to hit him.

43:21Well, we've he has if he has called their bluff in this way, it is

43:26just a waiting game where we get to sit there, choose which ships go and

43:30which don't, which means the Iranian ships.

43:32They're fully blockaded and they're just going to run out of money.

43:37Right. But here's. Yeah. Yeah.

43:38Another scary thing, which I think follows on with you, is, you know, it sounds

43:43wonderful. One of the first things we did is obviously go in there and take

43:46out their leadership, like the top 40 guys, right?

43:49But who's actually running things right now?

43:52And are they on the same page?

43:54And I think that's the other thing that's a big unknown here that's a little

43:58bit worrisome, which is that you can have some of these parliamentary figures come out

44:03and say, OK, the strait is open.

44:04Is that actually the view of the dug -in militants who believe that their existential

44:10survival is at stake here and who operate much less in a rational fashion?

44:17You know, they're not thinking real politic here.

44:19They're thinking, you know, that they're going to do this out of religious fervor.

44:23I think that's a really scary question.

44:26Yes, well, that's all. It reminds me, and a lot of people listening who were

44:29veterans of our war in Iraq will remember the Iranian move toward providing Shia militias

44:38in Iraq, which were effectively Iranian proxies, although obviously it's complicated.

44:43That's a whole story unto itself.

44:45But they were giving them these explosively formed penetrators.

44:48Iran figured out that they could mass manufacture these devices very, very easily, effectively in

44:56like garage bomb factories where they could punch through almost anything.

45:01I mean, maybe an Abrams tank could stand up to them, but I mean, everything

45:04else was getting chewed up specifically to kill Americans, and that was something that had

45:09not been considered before on the battlefield.

45:11So there was a deviousness to the Iranian, certainly asymmetrical warfare, and they just did

45:19that to kill Americans, right?

45:20That was the—they weren't going to take over Iraq, but they wanted to harm Americans

45:24as much as they could.

45:25For them to just allow the ships to go, I'm—that's the part of this that

45:30has really shocked me. So I sit here saying, oh, okay, all of our worries

45:34all this time about Iran doing something to ships in the Strait of Hormuz seems

45:39to have been neutralized, and if that is the case, I don't see how they

45:43end up doing anything other than conceding at least— The other problem here, Kim, and

45:49this is my last thing for you is, they may concede to think about future

45:53concessions, and I think that's where they get very slippery.

45:58Yeah, no, I agree with that.

46:00And then again, too, remember, to your point about how the tactics they've used in

46:06the past, this is a regime that has relied fundamentally for decades now on the

46:12use of proxies, and that has been very effective for Iran, you know, whether you're

46:17talking about ones that are very organized like Hezbollah or the Houthis or Hamas, but

46:23it also raises the option or the possibility that you have proxies that ultimately you

46:29can't control, right? And so I just think it's really important that we are watching

46:34not just what happens immediately in the straight, but who emerges in the end of

46:40this as the actual spokesperson and how much we trust that they are in control?

46:44Because you can still have real hotspots emerging here or problems in the straight, and

46:49they might be coming from actors that the regime, as it were, doesn't have control

46:54over. But I agree with you.

46:56If they're doing nothing, this is an amazing turn of things.

53:03i tell you these days fraud waste and abuse which is a massive affordability problem

53:08in our country has gained a lot of attention i think in part because the

53:12president has gotten so frustrated by the weak rules that were put in place over

53:17the last administration some of them worsened by covid which taught a lot of of

53:22thugs corrupt individuals that they could steal from the government get away with it so

53:26uh we are laser focus as you know with the vice president's task force and

53:30lots of other efforts well you know i saw this guy out in california it

53:34was one medical practice doc and you you may have seen this one too where

53:39uh he was essentially just over like over billing for medication and they pulled off

53:46in california they pulled off the guardrails within the system so i think this guy

53:50was one clinic billed a few hundred million dollars of of medicine that he was

53:56paid for like paid by uh by a california state system and i think part

54:01of it is the scale of of one individual fraud like that within the medical

54:05system is pretty jaw -dropping but also that it wasn't caught until years into the

54:13process or years later i mean so what is this task force doing now i

54:18mean how how can you tell us that things are going to get cleaned up

54:22when there's so much to clean up that it feels like we're just swimming in

54:25fraud everywhere well let's let's go back a second because what you said is really

54:30important you asked with some disbelief how it was possible you For this guy to

54:34get away with it for so long, there's an implication in that question that this

54:38is a flaw in the system.

54:40What if it was a feature of the system?

54:43What if people wanted this to happen because there were benefits of running a program

54:47where anybody wants to get into Medicaid can get on, that if you want to

54:52get someone to carry your groceries upstairs, someone will pay for it.

54:55And it turns out, unfortunately, there are merits to wanting that.

54:59Now, here's a couple examples.

55:00First off, if you go on public health insurance, we offer you at the same

55:05time a path for you to go to vote.

55:08So there's a voter recruitment element.

55:10That's by federal law, by the way.

55:11And then let's take advantage of the system by hiring people to do things you

55:16would not normally hire people to do.

55:18For example, things that your family would normally do for you if you don't feel

55:21well, like driving to the doctor's office or carry those groceries up the stairs.

55:26The number one job in New York State, the number one job, is personal care

55:31services individuals, people in your neighborhood helping you out.

55:36That sounds innocent, but the federal government is paying the tab on most of that.

55:41California, same thing. And how can it be the number one job in the state?

55:44And now we're finding out there are allegations that these guys are, these programs are

55:49growing because there's foreign involvement, so it's professionalized.

55:53And then we find out that the unions are maybe getting involved and try to

55:56unionize these individuals. So this starts to smell more like it's political patronage.

56:01And I bring that up because if you're asking me what possible ways is there

56:05for us to fix this, imagine that it's 2024, we're getting ready for the election,

56:10and someone says millions and, in fact, tens of millions of people have come across

56:14the border. How can you possibly fix it?

56:16And within months of the president coming in, we've cut it down by over 99

56:20percent. Why? We wanted to.

56:22We can fix fraud in America.

56:25We just have to want to do it.

56:26So you ask about that doctor in California.

56:28There is right now in the country one -third of all of the hospices, one

56:34-third of all hospices in the entire country are in Los Angeles.

56:38I mean, how many people are dying there?

56:40How is that possible, right?

56:43One -third are there because the local government didn't want to deal with the issue,

56:47and everyone's making money, so they sort of let it slide.

56:50Now, we, just in the last 10 weeks, just in the last 10 weeks, have

56:55shut down over 400 hospices in California from billing us.

57:00They're no longer allowed to bill us.

57:01We've made that, you know, shut the cash register off.

57:06No money's leaving the building here in Washington.

57:08Guess how many have complained to me of those 400 hospices who are suspended?

57:13Zero. Not one of those hospices that we've suspended has reached out.

57:17Why? Well, the implication is they're guilty because if I stopped paying you for coming

57:22on the show every day, you'd probably raise hell, right?

57:24You'd come back and say, you're paying me my money.

57:26These guys aren't complaining because they finally got caught.

57:30So I got to ask you this.

57:32And, Doc, I'm glad you're on it.

57:33And I know J .D., as the vice president, is looking at this, too, because,

57:37you know, it goes beyond.

57:39There's the waste of the dollars, which is the thing, but there's also the lack

57:42of faith in the system and the system being serious and fair.

57:45And I think Elon and Doge really also highlighted this for a lot of people.

57:49Like, why am I paying my taxes?

57:51Why am I subject to the rules if the rules can be so flagrantly violated?

57:55But as another part of this, though, just in the waste side of it, more

57:59the waste side than the fraud side, New York's Medicaid -alone budget is, I'm looking

58:06here on my screen, pulled it up.

58:08It was $84 billion in 2022.

58:12The state of Florida's entire budget, the state of Florida, which has more people than

58:18New York, is $117 billion, give or take.

58:22Like, what is a state like New York spending all of these dollars for Medicaid

58:28on? How do you spend almost the same thing as the budget of a state

58:34with 21 million people on just a Medicaid program in New York?

58:38Where is this money going?

58:40They're not paying attention to the cash register, and folks are able to lobby them

58:46to take money out of it.

58:47And that ends up becoming a major crisis for this state.

58:51See, the problem here, and you point out the major issue, is if you're getting

58:56the system defrauded, and these are the precious safe net systems of our country, Medicaid

59:01is the payer of last resort.

59:03When you've lost everything, Medicaid, our program comes and rescues you.

59:07Medicare is the program for our seniors.

59:09If we defraud those programs, people lose confidence in them.

59:12But here's the unfortunate reality.

59:13If you're a scumbag that's willing to steal money from our most vulnerable, you will

59:18steal their health. You'll steal their life.

59:20And so we hurt the programs themselves.

59:23They lose their reputations. Taxpayers don't want to contribute.

59:26Folks lose confidence that you're actually providing high -quality care.

59:29And you're hurting people all at the same time because they're not paying attention.

59:32And you mentioned New York State, where it's basically a jobs program, right?

59:36Most of the new jobs being created are in health care, so they've actually completely

59:40flipped the economic engine of the state upside down, but it's not sustainable.

59:44You've got to pay people to help other people in health care, but only pay

59:49them when they're doing that.

59:50And if you're not willing to do your job, then move out and let someone

59:53else do it. Yeah, it's critical that these reforms are enacted and that there's real

59:59accountability for this. Yeah, it's critical that these reforms are enacted.

1:00:01Speaking to Dr. Mehmet Oz, Dr.

1:00:03Oz, let's talk about some of the, you know, because this is an audience of

1:00:07patriots who pay their taxes and obey the laws.

1:00:09So we know you're looking at the fraudsters out there, and that's good.

1:00:12What are things that you're working on to improve people's health, to help people out

1:00:17there, to use the programs?

1:00:18You have a vast budget, right?

1:00:20I mean, you're overseeing a massive entity.

1:00:22What are some of the good things that are underway, whether to make it more

1:00:27efficient for, say, Medicare, for seniors, or improving care or anything?

1:00:31You know, give us the highlight reel of where the dollars are being used properly.

1:00:36Well, we've been blessed to have an incredible treasure trove of talented individuals come in.

1:00:41The government is a generational opportunity to deliver what you just mentioned, which is improve

1:00:46the quality of care. And just to put some numbers on this, if we can

1:00:50get the average American to be healthier, to feel so darn good, so focused on

1:00:54living their full life, that they want to work just one year longer, that's worth

1:00:58a trillion dollars to the U .S.

1:01:00economy every year. So it's a huge investment return if we're actually able to deliver.

1:01:06So Secretary Kennedy, who's just upstairs from me, where I am in the Health and

1:01:10Human Services building here in Washington, is big on Maha for a good reason.

1:01:14Because if we can get the American people to take some preventive steps and nudge

1:01:18them along in this process, as they get healthier, we'll save money.

1:01:21Because 80 % of the money we spend in health care in America is for

1:01:25chronic illnesses. So why not just make you healthier in the beginning?

1:01:27If we make it easier for you to be healthy, you'll become healthier.

1:01:31So we've got every major tech company now, for the first time participating, building tools

1:01:36to meet people wherever they are.

1:01:38So we'll be able to get your medical records, if you want us to have

1:01:41them, and say, hey, here's the five things you ought to do to make your

1:01:44life better. And by the way, stop eating that, eat a bit more of this,

1:01:52And that's the kind of customized care.

1:01:54Again, AI will help it work.

1:01:55AI will also give us better access to care, because a lot of parts of

1:01:59the country, rural America is a good example, where we have now poured $50 billion

1:02:04more into care. That's 50 % more than we normally spend on rural health care

1:02:10for Medicaid. All that money is being put in there to reform the system, to

1:02:13right -size the system, and bringing technology to these areas will give, especially, for example,

1:02:18our vets and others in rural America who want mental health services to access them.

1:02:23We can actually get you the tools that you'll need.

1:02:25And I am very optimistic about the ability to use AI and robotics, by the

1:02:30way, correctly in many parts of the country, because we're going to be able to

1:02:34put guardrails around them. But I do say, without question, that we all got to

1:02:38be focused on it, because if we don't do it the right way, these tools

1:02:41could be used against us.

1:02:42Of course, speaking to Dr.

1:02:43Redmond Oz, he's the Administrator for Medicare and Medicaid Services under HHS, which sounds like,

1:02:50what is that for? Oh, that's right, the giant program that deals with Medicare, Medicaid,

1:02:55enormous parts of the federal budget.

1:02:57So this stuff is really important and really affects our bottom line as a country,

1:03:02but it also affects our health as a country.

1:03:03To that end, you were going towards some lifestyle things, lifestyle interventions.

1:03:08Elon Musk, I'll just put it out there, he said that he believes that one

1:03:12of the greatest things that could be done for public health in America, and I

1:03:15know he's not a doctor, but he's a pretty smart guy, would be expanding access

1:03:19to GLP medications and helping people get down to a healthy weight.

1:03:26These drugs are, I have many friends who have taken them.

1:03:29I know many people who are on them.

1:03:31I have family members who have taken them, and they say that they're near miracle

1:03:36drugs and have changed their lives for the better in dramatic ways.

1:03:41So talk to me about where CMS comes in here, expanding access to those medications,

1:03:46helping with lifestyle programs, because the obesity epidemic, by the numbers, was one of the

1:03:52biggest drivers of health care costs in this country in recent decades.

1:03:55And it looks like we have a very potent tool to turn that curve down

1:03:59in the other direction. Which is why, under instructions from the president, we have negotiated

1:04:05most favored nation drug pricing for those GLP -1 drugs.

1:04:08Now, we did it for a couple of reasons, and just to put it on

1:04:11everyone's radar, we pay three times more for the branded medications in America than other

1:04:17countries pay for the exact same products made in the same factories put in the

1:04:20same bottles. So the president said, I don't want that anymore, no mas, fix the

1:04:23problem. From now on, most favored nation drug pricing.

1:04:26The drug prices in America need to be the same prices as they are in

1:04:29other countries. We have achieved that now with these GLP -1 drugs.

1:04:33And by the way, 16 other major drug companies as well have come into this

1:04:38area. And these companies, the two big ones that make the GLP -1 drugs, are

1:04:42now selling them at a fraction of the price that they were selling them for

1:04:46even a year ago. So much so that we are giving seniors in America access

1:04:50to these drugs for a very de minimis co -pay.

1:04:53Why do we do this?

1:04:54And why are we making it easy to buy these drugs on trumprx .gov?

1:04:57Anyone listening right now can go to that site and say, there's no registration fee.

1:05:02It's your site. The American people, you know, you pay for our government.

1:05:05We made the site for you, and I want you to use it to double

1:05:08check that you're getting the right prices for these otherwise expensive medications.

1:05:12But here's the deal. We will, within two years, be saving taxpayers money if obese

1:05:19Because when you stop the extra weight gain, you drop your incidence of high blood

1:05:25pressure and diabetes. Those cause the strokes.

1:05:28They cause the heart attack.

1:05:29They cause the kidney failure, liver disease, all kinds.

1:05:32They cause impotence, by the way, too.

1:05:33And so all these problems mount a huge cost to the health care system, driving

1:05:38roughly 80 % of all our charges.

1:05:40So if I can get you to take the medications by making them more affordable,

1:05:43which we've done, we'll actually save money for the system.

1:05:46So we need people to be healthier.

1:05:48We don't want a country that's twice as fat as Europe.

1:05:50We don't want a country that's 10 times heavier than Japan.
