2:53Welcome to the Tudor Dixon podcast.

2:54We have so much stuff going on in Hollywood right now, but you might have

2:58heard about this story with the new bachelorette.

3:02Apparently, she has some abuse allegations against her and it looks like they knew and

3:08they still used her. And I'm like, how does this happen?

3:11I need an expert to explain this to me.

3:13So we have Christian Toto.

3:14He is the host of Hollywood in Toto podcast.

3:17Thank you so much for joining me.

3:19Oh, my pleasure. Yeah, this is fun.

3:20So I'm watching what's going on here.

3:24And this person is named Taylor Frankie Paul.

3:27First of all, three first names.

3:29It's always a red flag.

3:32Three red flags. Yes, exactly.

3:34And it's like gender neutral first name.

3:36It's very weird. So anyway, she is someone who was on The Secret Lives of

3:41Mormon Wives. Interesting. OK, full disclosure, I've not watched The Bachelorette.

3:47I've not watched this Mormon Wives thing.

3:48I had a totally different vision of Mormon Wives in my head until this started

3:52happening. What's interesting about this whole thing is that, you know, back in the day,

3:56reality TV was a little bit like a documentary.

3:59And then it's morphed so aggressively over the years where the participants know exactly what

4:05they need to do to be outrageous, to be bold, to be scary, to be

4:09weird, to be provocative. And that's what the TV producers want.

4:12But at some point, things are going to go awry.

4:14And now we're seeing things go awry.

4:16We've got someone who's got some abuse allegations and apparently it was caught on video.

4:20So not so surprising here.

4:23But if you want to pursue dysfunction, you're going to get dysfunction.

4:26And sometimes it's going to get ugly.

4:27So I guess that's what we have always kind of known in the background.

4:32Like we had heard these stories years ago.

4:34I feel like the first reality show came out more than 20 years ago.

4:39And we were watching like Survivor and those types of things.

4:43And then we started to hear behind the scenes, wow, they're actually making things up

4:47and they're telling people to do things.

4:49Actually, maybe Rachel Campos Duffy.

4:52Was she like one of the first reality stars?

4:54She could probably tell us a lot about this.

4:58Yeah, it's a template. And, you know, we shouldn't be surprised by now.

5:01And it's one of the reasons why, listen, I'm a film critic and a TV

5:03critic. I don't watch, I can't watch it all.

5:05And I don't watch this in part because it just seems like bad fiction.

5:09Like it's not really authentic.

5:11It's not raw. It's not genuine.

5:13It's all kind of gussied up in a way that just seems clearly artificial.

5:17So I'd rather watch a well -scripted drama with good performances than a poorly scripted

5:22drama with bad performances. performance.

5:23Is that just me? You know, call me crazy.

5:25But yeah, this is what you get.

5:27And you know, that real world experience, I remember watching those shows with the crazy

5:31puck character and all these things.

5:32That was her season. Yeah.

5:34And I think that they really kind of set the template like, OK, we need

5:38something unconventional. We need something outrageous.

5:41If it's just nice people behaving nicely to each other, it's a yawn.

5:45So I get where they're going.

5:46But if you keep pushing the envelope, you're going to get a different kind of

5:49envelope that you may not want.

5:50And now, you know, the studio, the channel is up.

5:54You're going to lose a ton of money on this.

5:55I mean, I can't imagine how much money was invested in the season.

5:59And it sounds like they're going to scrap it entirely.

6:00But I think what's crazy about this is that exactly what you're saying.

6:04They knew this would bring a certain amount of drama.

6:07They actually knew about this because there was a case involved.

6:10Like she had been charged with domestic violence and abuse in the presence of a

6:16child. So like misdemeanor child abuse.

6:19And I think the story that I'm hearing is that the network was like, OK,

6:24it's OK because of exactly what you're saying.

6:26We want to bring a little chaos in.

6:28This is a person who will bring in the chaos.

6:30She's a little volatile. We don't know what will happen.

6:33We'll have all these men and they'll be vying for her attention.

6:36And and nobody nobody's really going to be have a problem with this because they

6:41knew about it when she was on the other reality show.

6:43She's already on this secret lives of Mormon wives, which must have been pretty raunchy

6:47because this is apparently how they acted.

6:50And I'm and I'm shocked by that.

6:52But that gave them almost like, OK, your morals can be set aside because it's

6:58already out there. And then just recently, it's interesting how it changed when people were

7:03like, well, wait a minute, there's a kid that was hurt here.

7:06And I feel like that was the moment which gives me a little bit of

7:09hope for society that there was a moment when they said we can't make a

7:14lot of money off of a child abuser.

7:17Yeah, I mean, listen, Hollywood's morals are pretty wobbly on a good day, but they

7:21crossed the line here. It is almost funny that the the the different participants would

7:26go from show to show.

7:27And I guess each new show will say, well, I'm sure they were vetted.

7:31But also when it comes to vetting, you could just do a Google search and

7:34just find out what's going on with a lot of the people involved here.

7:36So it doesn't actually speak well of what they're doing.

7:39And listen, I you don't want to have a political style vetting process for every

7:43participant. It shouldn't be that, you know, nitty gritty.

7:46But this is where it could end up.

7:49And you've got to know what's going on behind the scenes before you sign those

7:52contracts and hire those people or maybe just make a good show and not have

7:56to worry about sort of these really wild and crazy people trying to bring the

7:59excitement because maybe just make something that's interesting on on the surface that that sounds

8:04crazy, but it could work with family over the weekend at our house.

8:08And that was exactly like this kid is probably 30 years old.

8:13So younger than me, just at the tail end, I feel like of watching shows

8:18on TV where you watch on Thursday night and then you have to wait until

8:21the next Thursday night to see the next episode, you know, and everybody kind of

8:25gathers around the the TV together and the shows are family friendly.

8:30And you because it becomes like a part of your culture.

8:34And that that's lost. In fact, one of the points that he was making is

8:38he's like, you know, there's all these great actors on Apple shows.

8:42And yet nobody really promotes Apple shows or talks about Apple shows.

8:46So we miss a lot of the Apple TV shows because it's just another one

8:50of these streaming apps and they're all pushed in there.

8:53And I do think like I've watched some of those shows and they're they're creative.

8:57I mean, they're they're weird, but they're creative.

9:01And I feel like we are missing that in this bombardment of streaming.

9:07And I feel like there's so much availability to put your content out, whereas there

9:12used to not be. It was like studios had to choose your show and they

9:16would do all kinds of science to make sure it was going to actually be

9:19something people would like and then play it.

9:22And it might only last a season or they make changes.

9:25But there was a like there was much more involvement in making a show a

9:29success. Now we're so oversaturated that it just doesn't feel like people have to work

9:34that hard. It's a blessing and a curse.

9:37Like you said, there are many more shows available.

9:38The quality in certain cases has risen.

9:41I mean, when I was growing up, TV shows were just a certain level and

9:44then movies were much better.

9:45And now it's almost flipped in a way.

9:47But, you know, the good side is that we have so much content, there's so

9:50much competition, which makes each show a little bit better.

9:53They have to to cut the noise.

9:55At the same time, we're all siloed.

9:56You know, there are people who have Apple TV Plus and they're streaming it and

9:59getting good content. No, no, you know, no issues with the programming there.

10:02But that's a small part of the overall pie.

10:05So we don't have a common culture anymore.

10:07I think it's one of the reasons why the 80s nostalgia has endured is because

10:11it was one of the last few decades where we are all together.

10:14We all wear shoulder pads and parachute pants and we had the, you know, the

10:1880s music on the turntable.

10:22We just don't have that anymore.

10:23Listen, there's much more than many more options now.

10:25There are many great things about the world we're living in, but we miss that.

10:29We miss those common ties.

10:30And yeah, waiting a week to see a show and then talking about it the

10:34next day at the water cooler.

10:35It may sound like a cliche, but it also sounds nice.

14:35So maybe it is just nostalgia for me, but I also think that there was

14:42value in that. And there was value in what those shows brought because there was

14:46always some lesson. In a lot of those shows, there was a lesson, right?

14:49Or there was joy or there was laughter.

14:51And we're just not seeing as much of that today.

14:55And I feel like COVID really changed this because I'm such a lover of movies.

15:00You know, a rare and wonderful exception was just in theaters last week.

15:04And of course, it's in there now.

15:06Project Hail Mary came out.

15:07And all I've seen across all of social media is how sweet and human and

15:12wonderful and original and fresh is.

15:15And why don't they make more movies like this?

15:17It's just a constant refrain.

15:19And I've seen it. It's a beautiful film.

15:20I don't even know what this is.

15:21Tell me about it. Yeah, it's a new Ryan Gosling film.

15:24It came out just a couple of days ago about a scientist who goes into

15:27space because there's a threat to the sun.

15:29And he's one of these curious thinkers.

15:31And he has a scheme that might work, that might save the world.

15:35But we don't know. Project Hail Mary.

15:37So, you know, it's just him in a spaceship all alone.

15:40But it's chock full of imagination and wonder.

15:44And it's PG -13. It's pretty clean.

15:46And it's just the kind of movie they used to make.

15:48It's just the kind of movie there your kids could like, your grandparents could like.

15:52Everyone in between enjoys. And everyone's like, hey, Hollywood, we love this.

15:56We're going to make this a huge hit.

15:58Can you make more of it?

15:59And sadly, they seem either incapable or unwilling to make these movies that really tie

16:05us all together. And it's sad.

16:06I know we've seen a lot of faith movies that have been really successful.

16:10But it's not coming from big Hollywood.

16:12And there's so much money in big Hollywood that could be put behind this.

16:15Although I say that and then I saw who.

16:18was it Dana Carvey and David Spade?

16:22Yes. Yes. They do the podcast together.

16:24And they said that some of these big sound stages are going broke.

16:27Yeah. What? How can that happen?

16:30Well, I mean, I think they're talking specifically about L .A.

16:33and L .A. production is just cratering.

16:36Listen, the COVID didn't help.

16:37The strikes didn't help. But it's L .A.

16:40It's a self -inflicted wound.

16:41You've got so many issues.

16:43I've talked to filmmakers. They say the union fees are through the roof and just

16:47the price of everything is through the roof and gas and crime.

16:51And it just L .A.

16:52has made filmmaking not accessible like it used to be.

16:56And so people go into Georgia and they're going to across, you know, into Canada.

16:59And that's where the films I talked to a director who made an L .A.-based

17:04story and he shot it in South Africa and he was desperate to tell it

17:08in L .A. and shoot it in L .A., but it just wasn't cost prohibitive.

17:11Well, so that's been one of the criticisms of the Trump administration is because President

17:16Trump was like, I won't I won't let movies come here that have been filmed

17:20someplace else. Like you're going to have a huge tariff.

17:22It's going to be a big deal.

17:23But are we being somewhat punished by Democrat policies because of what has happened in

17:29California? And I mean, I agree with you on Canada.

17:33I've seen a lot of films that and even TV shows that you can watch

17:37on Netflix or any of these streaming programs that are really good shows, but they're

17:41filmed in Canada because you can't afford to do it at a on a Hollywood

17:45soundstage. Yeah, it's just a new normal.

17:48It's been going on for a while now.

17:49And it's it. I mean, it's the Democratic policies.

17:52It's not all that as far as a fault there, but it's a lot of

17:56it for sure. And I think even some celebrities.

17:59I mean, do you think it was Gavin Newsom?

18:01I think he made it worse.

18:03I think it was probably, you know, getting there before he entered the scene.

18:07It's Karen Bass, the mayor there.

18:09It's it's sort of the statewide policies.

18:12It's union or bust. There's a lot of different factors there.

18:16But listen, would you want to go to L .A.

18:18and face those crime rates and step over the poor homeless people again and again

18:22and suffer? And, you know, and now just people are moving away and it's gotten

18:26so bad where people wear Dana Carvey and David Spade, who are really apolitical.

18:31Even they're noticing it and even they're speaking up about it.

18:34That's that's how bad it's gotten.

18:36And it's making them sad because they that's where they flourished for years.

18:39Yeah, I mean, it really it makes I think it makes all of us sad

18:43because we talk obviously politically a lot on this podcast and we criticize the the

18:49left for doing these things.

18:50But there are American staples.

18:53And I feel like American film is an innovation and it is a stronghold across

18:59the globe. And there's nothing like American film and American movies are just there's something

19:04special. We all feel we all feel a special connection to movies.

19:07I mean, everybody has a movie that they have certain feels about that they go

19:13back to those those stories that you love.

19:16And there's there they can only be told by American movie makers.

19:20And yet it feels like that's being destroyed by policies that are just driving American

19:27films out of this country.

19:28I agree. And especially on the emotional note, there are films that just mean a

19:33lot to us in so many different ways and could be silly, could be, you

19:36know, emotional. But also what's happening is there may be a course correction.

19:41We're seeing filmmaking blossom in Nashville.

19:43We're seeing it in Texas.

19:45You know, Mark Wahlberg's talking about Nevada as a possible hub.

19:48Zachary Levi is talking about similar things as well.

19:51So it may not be old school L .A.

19:53production like we've seen for decades.

19:55And maybe that makes us a little nostalgic and sad.

19:58But those American stories may just blossom in other places.

20:01And it's that cultural soft power that matters, that we should be, you know, China

20:06does it in a very heavy handed way where it's, you know, China is great

20:09and we must put out this propaganda in films.

20:12But how about just tell great American stories?

20:15You know, the pursuit of happiness with Will Smith from, I guess, a decade or

20:18so ago was just a love letter to capitalism.

20:21Yes, you will work hard.

20:22Yes, you will stumble, but you will rise and you will thrive if you care

20:26enough, if you work hard enough, because that's the system we have.

20:29That's not just a good movie.

20:30It's a good message. So you bring that up, you bring up the messages and

20:36just that feeling that comes with movies.

20:39But Chuck Norris, we just lost Chuck Norris.

20:42And I think a lot of people were just shocked.

20:44You know, he just felt like this figure that was bigger than life and, you

20:47know, so healthy and like such a great guy would live forever.

20:52We lost him and so many people came out and, you know, just celebrated his

20:58life. But Variety didn't. They attacked him.

21:01I mean, they literally said his work was promoting a cop agenda and it was

21:07dangerous propaganda. How did we get here?

21:11It took my breath away when I read that story, you know, and also I

21:14expected that piece, that kind of piece, but not literally hours after the announcement of

21:19his death. That I mean, the speed, the ferocity and the ugliness of it did

21:23take me by surprise. And I knew it was coming, but I just didn't expect

21:26that element of it. But that's, that's where we are in the culture.

21:29It's, it's, it's not even, it's anti -Americanism in a way that isn't even disguised

21:35anymore. It's just out in the open.

21:37And you can't make a movie that shows the excellence of this country that, you

21:41know, celebrates what we do best.

21:43That's patriotic. And he was all those things.

21:45And Yeah. He was on the right politically.

21:48I don't think he was banging the drum like other people do, certainly not like

21:52a Mark Ruffalo for the left, but that put a target on his back as

21:55well. You know, when Rob Reiner died, it was just an absolute travesty and just

21:59as ghastly as you can be.

22:00And I disagree with everything Rob Reiner said politically, but he was a great filmmaker.

22:04And I wouldn't, as an entertainment journalist, I wouldn't ever write a piece sort of

22:09tying his politics into his art, into his life, especially not on the day of

22:14his death. Just I couldn't imagine having that mindset.

22:18But that's what happened. You know, before before we started talking, I think The Hollywood

22:21Reporter has another piece about Chuck Norris that might be in a similar vein.

22:25At least they waited a couple of days for that one.

22:27But just it's it's a bit ghoulish.

22:29It is. It's it is very disappointing.

22:32And I and I think to a certain extent, you're right.

22:34We hadn't in the past.

22:36I think there was a slight activism when you would see Oscars and things.

22:41And, you know, we had they all the celebrities always like to get together and

22:45sing songs about saving the world and freedom and all of that, which was still

22:49an American message. You know, it went into this weird socialist.

22:53I mean, gosh, we just saw over the weekend Code Pink go to Cuba and

22:58pretend like they were lifting the people out of poverty while they took all of

23:02their electricity and had a concert.

23:05I mean, how how did how did people with celebrity get to the point where

23:09their minds are so backwards?

23:11You know, it's a hard question.

23:13I don't have the answer, but I will say if we had a healthy satire

23:18culture, if Saturday Night Live and the late night shows, if they would mock these

23:23people, it wouldn't just be hilarious and well -deserved.

23:27It might actually teach them a lesson about how silly they are and how how

23:30superficial their thinking is. But without those guardrails, they just go on and on and

23:35on and they could just do these crazy things.

23:38And Saturday Night Live just looks the other way.

23:41All they do is they hit one target, one side, one way all the time.

23:45It's wildly predictable and sad and not funny, obviously.

23:48But wouldn't it be great if if SNL at this point when Greta Thunberg is,

23:54you know, she's in her 20s now and bouncing from cause to cause as inauthentically

23:58as possible? Well, maybe climate went by the wayside for Palestine.

24:03I mean, I just find that hilarious that you can just get.

24:06Oh, actually, that's not popular anymore.

24:08We're kicking the climate change thing off and we're going to jump on the boat

24:12literally and hang out outside of Gaza.

24:15It's it's we're living in an age where you couldn't have better material if you're

24:19a politically minded comedian. And yet we have to look at, you know, Patreon and

24:23podcasts and tick tock and Instagram to find anyone who will poke that bear, who

24:29will make fun of it.

24:30Because SNL, they're just out of the business.

24:33They're just that it still exists.

24:35It's still on the air.

24:36They still get paid. They still get the lights on, but they don't do what

24:38they're supposed to do clearly.

24:40And I don't mean they can't, you know, make fun of Trump all you want.

24:42That's great. He's the president.

24:43You got to do other stuff, man.

24:45There's so much out there.

24:46You've got a mayor of New York City who's married to a woman who seems

24:49like an absolute. The words fail when we read about what she's supporting and they

24:54can't touch her. They just can't.

24:56They won't. I know. And, you know, she is like this kind of Cruella DeVille

25:02character. You know, she's very fashionable.

25:04She's got the short hair and she's beautiful.

25:08You know, I won't deny her that she is.

25:10And I think sometimes those people can be so alluring that people look past the

25:16darkness in their soul and like clearly her soul is very dark and that should

25:21be called out. And I think this is what really we heard for years from

25:25Jerry Seinfeld. Let's take a quick commercial break.

25:41We say those words all the time and they sound good.

25:44They feel good. But here's the truth.

25:47Those words don't mean anything unless they turn into action.

25:51And right now, not later today, not tomorrow, there's a child in the world who

29:03There's quite an uproar over what happened with Chapel Roan over the weekend.

29:07She had Jude Law's daughter, who you, I mean, the whole thing is very interesting

29:13because it was like some concert, they're staying at a hotel.

29:16Jude Law's daughter is 11 years old.

29:19Now remember, this is an 11 -year -old child.

29:21I have twins that are 12, and they're just so excited about anything that is

29:26big in their world. And Chapel Roan is very big for her.

29:29That's for this 11 -year -old.

29:31This is like her idol, right?

29:33She loves this woman. So they're at the hotel having breakfast in the morning.

29:38She says to her mom, I think that's her.

29:39I'm going to walk past and look.

29:41Doesn't take a picture. Doesn't do anything.

29:43Just walks past. Looks. Comes back to the table.

29:46Says yes, a security guard comes and like reams this little girl out.

29:51I have to say, I mentioned that she's Jude Law's daughter because you would think

29:56that having been around celebrities your whole life, your father being one of the biggest

30:01celebrities, she was probably pretty careful about how she approached the table, and she didn't

30:07talk to her. She just looked.

30:10What do you think about celebrities who have gotten so big?

30:13I guess her Chapel's reaction was to initially put out this Instagram post that maybe

30:19she thought was a little funny, but was like, don't bug me during breakfast.

30:23And then she got a lot of backlash for that.

30:26Pulled that down. Did a video like, it wasn't my security.

30:29I don't know what happened.

30:30Feel bad that this happened.

30:32Still, it didn't feel like she was trying to reach out to her fans who

30:37are the people that built her up, which I think is where we are going.

30:42Does this person deserve the celebrity and the love that she gets if she doesn't

30:46love her fans back? Yeah, it's a complicated story.

30:50And, you know, it's I don't know if there's video of it that we can

30:53kind of look at that might kind of solve the problem.

30:55But first of all, what Chapel Rowan should have done instantly said, I'm so sorry.

30:59It wasn't she could have defended herself.

31:01She said, you know what?

31:02I'm going to invite that girl and her family to my next concert.

31:05I'm going to fly them in.

31:06We're going to have a great time.

31:07She can come, you know, backstage after the show.

31:10I'm so sorry. Like, there are ways to handle this.

31:12You know, a couple of years ago, there was a story about Jennifer Lawrence.

31:13Jude Law were her dad and that happened to me.

31:15I would for sure invite them.

31:17Yeah, yeah. No, I get it.

31:18I get it. There's a story a couple of years ago about Jennifer Lawrence talking

31:21about celebrity. It's something that maybe autographs or photos or something like that.

31:25And like, she's like, you know, I don't really do that anymore.

31:27I'm thinking, you know, Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks and he's been Tom Hanks for

31:31like four or five decades now, practically.

31:33And I read where he just is agreeable and sweet and kind.

31:37And he's much more recognizable than Jennifer Lawrence, as famous as she is.

31:41But he gets it. You know, he understands that with the fame, with the money,

31:44with the accolades, comes a certain, yeah, I'm going to take pictures wherever I go.

31:48Yeah, I'm going to greet fans.

31:49So I do think that it doesn't always happen, but it is seemingly missing in

31:55our culture these days. And I think a lot of the younger stars just don't

31:58get it. I almost wish they would talk to the older team and get some

32:02lessons about humility and grace and know, you know, Chaperone, she's at the top of

32:07the charts now in a decade, maybe five years.

32:09She may be aware of the now case.

32:11You just don't know. You've got to be appreciative.

32:13Well, that's what I wonder.

32:15Old Hollywood, everybody had a contract and they worked for a certain studio and that

32:21studio had a lot of control over your behavior.

32:24And I'm not saying that that's how you should have someone controlling your behavior.

32:28However, you represent the people that are in the movies with you.

32:33You represent the people who work for the movies.

32:35And I think about all of the people that it takes to make a movie.

32:38And even when that happened with.

32:42what's his name? Alec Baldwin, when the person was killed on set and it was

32:48devastating. And you think about all of the people on that set that had worked

32:52hard and that everything they did was ruined.

32:55But sometimes when you have a star like this, it starts to ruin people's opinions

33:01of what their shows are.

33:04Who wants to watch a Jennifer Lawrence show if she can't take the time to

33:09thank her fans? And I do think that that is a very strange attitude to

33:13have, because I mean, it's not like she's at the end of her life and

33:17she's like, don't show up at the nursing home.

33:19She's got a lot of time left to be signing people's autographs and thanking them.

33:24I mean, they are paying her salary.

33:26And I know that it's hard for some people to realize that.

33:31But when you're in a service industry, and I consider the arts a service because

33:34people don't have to take it, they can choose it.

33:37Wouldn't you want to reach out to the people who choose you?

33:41You would think so. But it's a weird culture.

33:43You know, a lot of times when actors, when they get low back, they're starring

33:49at maybe like a Star Trek show and some of the fans are not happy

33:52with it. What you often see is a defensive crouch.

33:56You see lashing out. And, you know, it's one of the reasons why I think

33:59the Tom Cruise situation has been so unique in the last few years that he's

34:03become basically an ambassador for Hollywood.

34:05He keeps thanking us to go to the movies for going to the movies to

34:08see him. He is sweet.

34:10And listen, it could be an act.

34:12It could be shtick. It could be what his PR people say.

34:15But you know what? I like it.

34:16It feels it feels genuine enough.

34:18And it feels like what an actor of his of his caliber should be saying

34:23that they should be grateful that he's had this career.

34:25And but he you know, he does that.

34:28Dwayne Johnson does that at times.

34:30Kevin Hart could be very magnanimous.

34:32And it's weird because they seem like they're the exceptions today.

34:35And said, you get the the De Niro's yelling at you for voting for Trump

34:39or something ridiculous. I mean, it's that's becoming the norm.

34:43And the Tom Cruise's are becoming the exception.

34:45And that's that's not good for Hollywood.

34:47It's not good for the culture.

34:48I know. I want to think of Leonardo DiCaprio as Jack and not this guy

34:52that's going to tell me not to get in an airplane when he flies his

34:55private jet. You know, this is how I feel.

34:57I'm like, I hate knowing who you really are, because I find out that I

35:01love you and you hate me.

35:02It's just this weird feeling because you want to see them as a character.

35:07And that is truly I mean, I will tell you, I don't want to see

35:11my politicians in swimsuits or playing tennis.

35:15I want to see them at their desk doing their work.

35:17And my my Hollywood actors, I want to see them performing their craft.

35:23I don't want to see them doing activism and telling me I'm an idiot, you

35:27know, and I want to go.

35:29I want to have a reason to go see them.

35:31So you mentioned the Hail Mary film.

35:34Tell us, give us your best recommendations, because I hear this all the time.

35:37I'm not kidding you. Like the last few weeks, people have been really like, what

35:41shows are you watching? What shows are you watching?

35:43And I feel like we share that in a different way now.

35:46Like you were saying earlier, we used to come together and watch shows as a

35:50family. But now I think people are constantly like, what are you into right now?

35:55So I can get into that, too.

35:56I can seek it out.

35:57What do you recommend movies and TV?

36:00Yeah, it's completely true, by the way, because I think there's so much out there.

36:04We need to kind of lean on trusted friends or a critic.

36:07I mean, I'm a critic.

36:07Hopefully people like what I do and trust me.

36:10But I'm enjoying Rooster right now.

36:12It's a new show on HBO starring Steve Carell.

36:14He plays a visiting professor at a college.

36:16And just the latest episode touched on how sensitive university students are, how you say

36:23the wrong thing or it's interpreted the wrong way can get you in trouble.

36:26So they're kind of poking fun a little bit at that, which is overdue.

36:30Also, Steve Carell is a genius.

36:31He's just so good at what he does.

36:32It's not the best thing he's performed in recent years, but it's certainly enjoyable.
