Leader Jeffries Discusses Trump’s State of the Union Disaster

2/24/202619 mincomplete
0:00Oh man, so MAGA Mike Johnson, the Republican Speaker of the House, just held a
0:05press conference where he attacked the Midas Touch Network.
0:09I kid you not, he attacked our counter -programming to the State of the Union,
0:13which is called the People's State of the Union, right here on the Midas Touch
0:17Network. We are boycotting the State of the Union here on this network.
0:21We will be bringing you from the National Mall with the Capitol in the background,
0:25the People's State of the Union.
0:26So here's what MAGA Mike had to say about us.
0:29And he goes, these far leftist extremists, they're doing boycotts and they're being so disrespectful
0:35to dear leader. And then after doing that, MAGA Mike ran away.
0:40He literally took no questions.
0:42So he attacks us, then runs away.
0:45Let me play you the first clip of him attacking us.
0:47Play this clip. This evening, the entire country will hear an update on the full
0:51scope of President Trump's transformational and historic first year back in office.
0:56The results speak for themselves.
0:58Why does he have so much to talk about?
1:00Because inflation is down, wages are up, investment is booming, the GDP is exceeding every
1:04expectation. Democrats, meanwhile, are going to host, count them, five separate counter events, rallies of
1:13some sort, they call them, in lieu of tonight's address.
1:15For all of these theatrics, it doesn't matter how many little gatherings they have or
1:21where they stand or how high the volume is on the microphones, they have nothing
1:24to offer, nothing but their TDS agenda, the Trump derangement syndrome, and it's on full
1:29display. All they can say, all they can tell you about is how they oppose
1:32President Trump and thwart his agenda and shut down the government and protest everything from
1:37the president's joint address to basic immigration enforcement.
1:40And they obstruct any meaningful progress for the sake of obstruction.
1:46It's the same tired playbook that they've run for a decade now.
1:49It's shameful that they would boycott an address.
1:52We don't do that. Republicans don't do that.
1:54It doesn't matter if there's a president from the opposing party.
1:56We don't skip out. Our constituents want and need us to be here.
2:01Every member of this house represents over 750 ,000 people.
2:05They're disenfranchised if you're not sitting in the seat to be a part of the
2:09role and the responsibility of Congress.
2:11I think it's shameful. Republicans have a far simpler and far superior message for Americans
2:16watching at home. We're putting more money back in your pockets.
2:19We're restoring peace through strength.
2:21We're defending our border and deporting criminal illegal aliens.
2:25We're standing up for American industry and manufacturing.
2:28And we're making American workers, not foreign countries, the clear winners in this American economy.
2:33Those are not talking points.
2:35That is what we have delivered.
2:37It's called Republican results. And we are proud to run on that message.
2:41Then that just drags on and it keeps on going.
2:43And then he finishes what he's saying.
2:45And then he just runs away.
2:47No questions, which is very odd because it was a press conference.
2:51So the entire point of your press conference, Magamike, was to attack us over like
2:56the course of two minutes and then run away from the press.
2:59Great work, Magamike. Here play this clip.
3:02I think tonight is going to be a great celebration of America and all that
3:05we've achieved together. So we're looking forward to that.
3:07Thank you all so much.
3:16So then Maga Republican Jim Jordan had to do some cleanup because Magamike attacking us
3:22was a bit of a disaster.
3:25And what the hell was that?
3:26So Jim Jordan goes on CNN.
3:28He's speaking to the American people, right?
3:30And so on CNN, they say to him, so Trump's polling is really bad, right?
3:36Like only 26 % of independents support him.
3:39What do you make of that, Jim Jordan?
3:41Here play this clip. Okay.
3:42So President Trump, you look at the polls, they're not good right now.
3:46It's the yesterday before you jump in.
3:49Okay. This is the independent, among independents, 26 % of independents approve of Trump's handling
3:57of his job right now.
4:00He's now going to have the biggest audience that he'll have up until the midterms.
4:05Yeah. But how concerned are you about the president standing among independents right now?
4:08Well, there's plenty of time to change that.
4:10And I think tonight's speech, the president's going to do what I think you have
4:13to do in all campaigns.
4:14He's going to tell them what we've accomplished.
4:16He's going to tell them what we still need to do.
4:18And I think, frankly, he's going to remind the 30 million or so Americans who
4:22watch this that, you know, the left is crazy.
4:25Every policy position they take is truly crazy.
4:28He's going to say the left is crazy?
4:29I think he's going to give examples of all that.
4:31I mean, it's... Manu Raju actually does a really good interview here because Jim Jordan
4:35was trying to clean up for Mag and Mike attacking us.
4:38And then Manu Raju says, also, 72 % of Americans think that the economy is
4:45fair or poor. It's really bad right now, Jim Jordan.
4:49Wouldn't you agree? And Jim Jordan's like, but Biden, but Biden.
4:54Here, play this clip. And you know what?
4:56Let me jump in because he also said he was going to reduce prices on
5:00day one while in office.
5:01And just as his own data from the from his own government says that the
5:06rate of price increases for all food up 3 % of meat, poultry, fish, and
5:10eggs of 2%. All the way down the list, a number of items, prices are
5:14still high. And on top of that, voters don't think he's doing a particularly good
5:18job about the economy or concerned about the state of the economy.
5:2172 % of the American public thinks the economy is fair or poor.
5:26And that's consistent with other polling.
5:28It's not easy to recover from all the ridiculous things and the rapid inflation, the
5:32record inflation that we had under Joe Biden.
5:34More from the exchange between Manu Raju and Jim Jordan here.
5:38Raju says, so should your committee look into Kash Patel using taxpayer dollars to go
5:45and party and chug beer with the Olympic hockey gold medal team?
5:50I think that's a good look for the FBI and Jim Jordan, who, by the
5:55way, chairs the Judiciary Committee.
5:57Jim Jordan is not a licensed lawyer.
6:00He never took the bar exam, never passed the bar exam, which in my view,
6:04not a problem. But you shouldn't be the chair of the Judiciary Committee.
6:08I'm just saying he goes, I don't think there's anything wrong with the FBI doing
6:12that. That's what that's it.
6:14That's that's a sweet American pie moment here.
6:16Play this clip. There's this viral moment with Kash Patel, the FBI director, when he
6:21was celebrating the there's the great victory for the United States over Canada in the
6:26hockey game. Of course, I'm sure you've seen it.
6:28He was celebrating in the locker room.
6:29There it is on on the screen.
6:31You know, that aside, there have been just questions about his use of government jets,
6:37FBI jets for personal travel.
6:38There was questions about visiting a girlfriend, a golf trip in Scotland, a luxury hunting
6:42retreat. You know, Patel himself was critical of Comey, a former FBI director for use
6:48of personal government jets. Should your committee look into his use of federal jets for
6:55personal issues? Mono, this was as as all American apple pie moment as possible.
7:01I'm talking about all this, though.
7:02The American men's team, the American women's team played unbelievable hockey.
7:06No one doubts that. No one doubts that.
7:08It was a great game.
7:09Do you see Jack Hughes's interview?
7:10Jack Hughes, like he said, I'm so proud to be an American.
7:13I'm proud of my team.
7:13It was like it was as apple pie as it gets.
7:16And you guys are going to talk about Kash.
7:18No, I'm talking about his use of government resources to do personal things.
7:23I'm sure you got to be conservative because Kash Patel, I just want to say,
7:26when he said he said about Chris Wray, he said back in 2023, I'm just
7:30saying Chris Wray doesn't need a government funded G5 jet to goldification.
7:34Maybe we ground that plane.
7:35Fifteen thousand dollars every time it takes off.
7:37Well, I think on this I think on this specific trip, he's probably I mean,
7:39he's celebrating with the American team because it's a great American moment, unbelievable American moment.
7:44You know, but I think he was over there because of security, looking at security.
7:49We got the Olympics coming to L .A.
7:51in two years. The FBI, I'm sure, is going to be involved in making sure
7:54things are secure for the spectators, for the athletes, for people who are coming there.
7:59He's doing all that. What about the Epstein survivors who will be in attendance at
8:03the State of the Union?
8:04Jim Jordan, should Trump meet with them?
8:07What do you think? Here, play this clip.
8:08The speech tonight, a number of Democratic members are bringing in survivors, Jeffrey Epstein survivors
8:13as their guests. Some of those survivors have asked President Trump for a meeting to
8:18meet with them. Should the president meet with them?
8:20I leave that to the to the White House.
8:21Would it be a good idea, in your view?
8:23Everyone knows that the president didn't do anything wrong because if he had, you don't
8:27think the Garland Justice Department in the Biden administration would have brought something up?
8:31I mean, everyone knows he didn't do anything wrong here.
8:34Our Justice Department is complying with the legislation we pass and with the courts and
8:39getting that information out there as the law requires.
8:42And as the courts have required, making sure you protect people who should be protected,
8:45but getting the information to Congress as we as it said in the law we
8:49pass. For more, I want to bring in Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries to talk about
8:54all of this and to talk about Donald Trump's new tariffs against the world after
8:58losing in the United States Supreme Court.
9:01I want to bring in Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries.
9:03We're doing this interview right on the day of the State of the Union.
9:07Our State of the Union is it's being run by a con artist, a fraud,
9:10a bankruptor who's now doing to the country what he did with his businesses.
9:14And that's why he drove his businesses into the ground, Congressman.
9:18That's absolutely correct. The State of the Union under Donald Trump is a complete and
9:21total disaster. This guy has failed on the economy, failed on health care, failed on
9:27immigration enforcement, which should be fair, just, and humane.
9:30And instead, ICE agents are terrorizing and brutalizing law -abiding immigrant families and American citizens,
9:37including killing them, as was tragically the case with Renee Nicole Good and Alex Preddy.
9:43So this is a disaster.
9:45And the American people know it.
9:47And the Supreme Court, thankfully, did the right thing as it relates to the decision
9:52to declare his tariffs unlawful and unconstitutional.
9:56And now the fight is on to get the money back to the American people.
10:04You know, and we've heard his team saying, it's not up to us.
10:09It's up to the courts.
10:11No, it's you stole our money.
10:12It's actually up to you.
10:14Now you give back the money.
10:15The Supreme Court ruling was actually very clear.
10:17If what you did was unlawful, what you did was stealing.
10:21You took from us. So when that happens, you give it back.
10:26You are utterly morally compromised.
10:28When you read that Supreme Court ruling and you're utterly demented, like the Trump regime,
10:33when they read it and go, you know what the Supreme Court actually said?
10:36Not only do we not give it back, but now we impose.
10:39more tariffs against the world and that's what they did and the rest of the
10:43world's like horrified and shocked that was their response I mean the reality is Donald
10:49Trump promised the American people that he would lower costs on day one he lied
10:53costs having gone down costs have gone up he hasn't focused on it at all
10:58we know that housing costs are out of control grocery costs are out of control
11:02the cost of health care is out of control particularly given the Republican refusal to
11:07extend the affordable care act tax credits jamming up more than 20 million American child
11:12care costs out of control and electricity bills are out of control and then in
11:17that kind of context where the affordability crisis is very real it's not a hoax
11:22Donald it's very real we see the Trump tariffs being imposed creating thousands of dollars
11:29of additional cost on the American people and now the Republicans refusing to return your
11:35money and so we're in this fight until we win this fight both in the
11:38House and the Senate we'll be introducing legislation to try to force the Trump administration
11:44to actually refund the money that was unlawfully and unconstitutionally taken away from the American
11:52people look that's the state of the union the state of Donald Trump seems to
11:56be cognitively and physically deteriorating before our eyes I mean he's making posts that he's
12:03sending hospital ships to Greenland and he's just making it up and the Pentagon's like
12:08yeah that's not happening at all the people of Greenland are like what the hell
12:12are you even talking about I mean he's giving these bizarre speeches where he keeps
12:17talking about men wanting to violently kiss him and that he's going to be a
12:21good boy he goes I got to be a good boy and when when you
12:24watch these speeches of him he can't complete sentences and I'm not trying to be
12:29hyperbolic everybody is noticing this about him and what what's your reaction just to his
12:35physical and cognitive behavior leader Jeffries Donald Trump was clearly never qualified to be the
12:40president of the United States of America that was the case 10 years ago when
12:45unfortunately he was first elected it certainly is the case right now and as you've
12:49pointed out he is deteriorating before our very eyes having difficulty stringing any coherent thoughts
12:58together let alone functioning as the commander -in -chief and someone who is supposed to
13:04be making life better for the American people what's unfortunate is that my Republican colleagues
13:09in the house and in the senate continue to bury their heads in the sand
13:14they know something is wrong but it doesn't matter to them because they are part
13:19of a cult -like situation instead of functioning like a separate and co -equal branch
13:25of government which is what the congress is designed to be they'd rather perform like
13:31a reckless rubber stamp to Donald Trump's extreme agenda which is why we got to
13:35make sure that there's real accountability for them in November yeah you know they're protecting
13:42the Epstein class we've seen now with the files uh that have been produced and
13:46mind you that's still a small fraction uh the Epstein files that have been produced
13:52many are saying that it can only be two percent of what's out there and
13:55there may be 50 terabytes that are still being covered up by Donald Trump and
14:00this frankly criminal cartel that's become his department of justice look a lot of Epstein
14:05survivors are going to be at the state of the union you know separately you
14:09know the Midas touch network we have our event the people state of the union
14:13so it seems either people will be at the people state of the union or
14:17there will be defiance within the state of the union itself silent defiance but a
14:22powerful message being sent by these survivors who will be there you know as Donald
14:28Trump and his regime refuses to even look at them talk to us about the
14:31impact of the survivors being there and even filling the seat filling the seats or
14:35areas where some members aren't going to be attended yeah it's a very powerful message
14:41to have the Epstein survivors who have been so strong so brave and so courageous
14:46in demanding and pushing for both transparency and accountability and to have them in the
14:54house of representatives staring down the president of the united states of america i think
15:00uh will be a moment uh to be remembered at the same period of time
15:06we're thankful for the event that you've put together that will also be well attended
15:12by members of congress and other advocates to be able to push back in real
15:17time against the lies that donald trump is telling to the american people so it's
15:22an all hands on deck approach but we're going to continue to stand strongly behind
15:27the Epstein survivors uh as the american people are standing strongly behind them in their
15:33righteous demands for full transparency and accountability the department of justice and the trump administration
15:39have failed the survivors they failed to comply with the law uh they're withholding documents
15:46clearly and we're going to continue to present the question to them and to the
15:50american people what is the trump cartel hiding because we know they're hiding something before
15:57we go leader jeffries just any final message to the american people you know there's
16:03a lot of bad news out there but i do think people are starting to
16:07feel glimpses of hope of what a future could look like in a post regime,
16:12post Trump regime world. You know, he's thrown everything, you know, at the people, but
16:18the people have remained resilient, I think, through it all.
16:21And the people don't want this crap.
16:23Don't want mass agents terrorizing and torturing us.
16:25We don't want health care being ripped away.
16:27We want affordable housing. We want to go about to live our lives in normalcy.
16:32And there are glimpses of that in the future emerging.
16:34And we see, you know, signs of that throughout the country.
16:37So before we go, what do you want the American people to know?
16:40Well, the American people have been incredibly resilient, and we're going to continue to stand
16:44behind them to get this national nightmare resolved, to turn the situation around, to make
16:49sure we continue to forcefully push back against them.
16:52The American people are rising up.
16:54Democrats have won elections now for 14 consecutive months.
16:57We've stopped their gerrymandering scheme, and we're even seeing some meaningful victories before this conservative
17:05Supreme Court. Still more work to be done in that regard.
17:09But Donald Trump and the MAGA extremists have failed in their effort to break America,
17:15which was their goal during the first 100 days and beyond.
17:19Instead, Donald Trump and the extremists are on the run, and as Democrats, we're going
17:23to continue to forcefully push back against them while fighting for an America where you
17:28work hard, you play by the rules, you should be able to live the good
17:32life. Good paying job, good housing, good health care, good education for your children.
17:37And when it's all said and done, a good retirement.
17:40Democratic leader, Hakeem Jeffries, joining us right before the State of the Union.
